something that negated the power of the uboat in the great war was the use of convoys, a lot of people at the time just thought it was dumb, "yeah just put em all together thatll just make it easier for the uboat" but it turned out, the exact opposite, it actually made it harder, kinda like how a predator will separate its prey from the herd, its stronger when its altogether, by the time of the second world war they had the use of convoys down, of course you still lose ships, its gonna happen no matter what, but it was happening at a rate that was easily replaceable
