The book is so good that it should be a TV series than a movie. This movie wasn't terrible and Brad did a good job as the lead.

It would absolutely work so well as a series. Maybe break up the chapters and have the book be a few seasons. Then maybe have the Zombie Survival Guide be done afterwards in a sort of Bear Grylls/Les Stroud "survival" fashion.

A tv series they should bring back is Jericho with Skeet Ulrich that show never got a chance to prove it`s self... a new version same event but with TWD or Cobra Kai writers at the helm but with 90 min episodes... more how to survive more in non contaminated city runs, more how to get cars running on other fuel, replacing things like tires made from alternative materials basically forced engineering...

Between their inhuman speed and the fact that it only takes seconds to turn, this is easily one of the most terrifying depictions of zombies. As opposed to something like The Walking Dead, it's actually believable that the military/police/armed citizens would get overwhelmed.
@Jarsia
@Jarsia Жыл бұрын
@@NiclasLoof Armies run on logistics. A helicopter is only going to carry so many rounds on a flight, and not every one is going to result in a kill. Might a military base away from major cities hold out against a few thousand zombies from smaller nearby towns? Sure. But they can't just hole up there forever. The military couldn't cover every square metre of the major cities, if one slips through, gets into a building, next thing you know, hundreds of zombies could be pouring out. If just a few get through and make it to other buildings, you're talking thousands. At that point it's impossible to prevent the spread. You can't just evacuate hundreds of millions of people. So that's the thing, if the cities are lost, the military has lost. If all the oil refineries are overrun, where do they get fuel? If all the munitions factories are overrun, where do they get ammo? If all the power plants are overrun, where do they get electricity? Now the military has limited food, fuel and ammo and no way to replenish it. Sure, a gunship can fly into a city, shoot up a bunch of zombies, and fly back unchallenged, but that represents an expenditure of ammo, fuel, and maintenance parts that are now finite and irreplaceable. By the time the military hears about the first case and organizes a response, that city is dead, and it's spreading across the countryside. A few reach the next city, and it's completely out of control. It's not like a strategy game where you sit in your base, build a bunch of turrets and make everything you need yourself. Without the civilian infrastructure, it all falls apart.
@Jarsia
@Jarsia Жыл бұрын
@@NiclasLoof The red army wasn't facing millions of combatants with zero self preservation instinct that can turn you with a single scratch or bite within seconds. In the movie one soldier blew away half the face of one zombie and it barely reacted till he kicked it off the chopper. And army logistics are exactly as fragile as I made them out to be. The US is exceptional at logistics, but just look to Ukraine to see what happens when logistics fail. The US military capability is largely down to logistics, which isn't usually a problem because their homeland and means of production is safe behind 2 oceans and multiple layers of defense. If the US mainland falls into chaos, army logistics hold out for a while, but then things run out, and that very complex, very hungry machine grinds to a halt. Lets take just 1 scenario. Imagine this thing got a foothold in Chicago and spreads to the surrounding communities including Milwaukee. That around 10 million people, and the perimeter to seal that off would be a line about 300km long(and that's WITH the advantage of Lake Michigan as a natural barrier on the other side), with probably a couple hundred thousand troops needed to effectively seal it off, outnumbered 50 to 1. That's a significant chunk of US military personnel, and a much larger percentage of the army, and you'd need FAR more for a clearing operation. You're not setting up something like that on particularly short notice, and there's no way in hell you're ensuring not a single one of those 10 million escapes quarantine. If that one reached some small town, 1 turn into 2, then 4, 8, 16, 32, and before you know it by the time anyone can respond that town is full of zombies and you have another 30km blockade to set up, but it's too late because they're already drawn to the roads. Accidents get caused, traffic grinds to a halt, zombies start smashing through windows and windshields and infecting those inside. If one german soldier made it past soviet lines, how much damage can he do. 1 zombie can turn a whole town into enemies, all of whom have the ability to do the same very, very quickly. Sure if a few soldiers are there at the site of the initial outbreak and start letting off rounds before more than a few get bit, there's a chance to stop it, but when you can go from bit to turned zombie in like 10 or 12 seconds and they move that fast, in a populated area the population of zombies could increase 1000 fold in under 5 minutes. Now if you play this scenario like they knew it was coming and set up that perimeter ahead of time, sure they could probably stop any stragglers from reaching other areas, but can 100 soldiers score 5000 perfect headshots before a wave of zombies reaches and turns them? Unlikely. The way zombies are portrayed in the film, critical mass is reached almost instantly. If even one breaks quarantine and reaches another population area, the town is dead before the first soldier arrives, and other zombies/infection vectors are spreading in every direction. At this point before long every service member in every branch will already be called to action and there will simple be no more soldiers available to respond to additional outbreaks. To say nothing of other countries with high populations and nowhere near as many soldiers. There are simply too few soldiers and their response time will be too slow to stop something moving this fast.
@Jarsia
@Jarsia Жыл бұрын
@@NiclasLoof Unless the leadership can evaluate and understand the threat literally within minutes, and make the decision to nuke absolutely everything within a certain radius to stop the spread, yes that's how it would go down. It's you who is severely overestimating the speed of military response. You're not going to get hundreds of thousands of soldiers on station within minutes, and you need to to seal off a city and have even a reasonable certainty none had escaped into the country side. You can have all the destructive weapons you want. Miniguns, white phosphorus, artillery/HIMARS barrage, tanks, whatever. You can use all that and kill millions of them, but what you can't do is track and account for 10s of millions of infected before they have a chance to spread the infection. Some will get through, and it only take a few to put you right back to square one.

As a Southerner who grew up in a rural area, Tucker and Dale was refreshing. In an era of tolerance, my ethnicity still has an entire horror genre dedicated to depicting us as inbred, mentally handicapped, cannibal rapists. Which is SO weird. I get the mental handicapped bit, typical urban vs rural snobbery, but I gotta be real… The rest was always just so random.

@@daveb947 Where does it claim to be the book? I mean, the name? Have you seen "I am legend"? That movie DESTROYS the book and it was very well received. I don't think there are so many readers out there that care so much about that stuff (me being one of them by the way, read the book before the movie was released, like with "I am legend"). Except with huge franchises like Lord of the rings or Harry Potter, and even then just to some degree, readers are rarely such huge fanboys as to reject a good movie just because it's different from the book. Then we would always be angry.

Alfonso When you buy the movie rights to a book, tell people you’re adapting the book into a movie and keep the name of the book, there’s an expectation that it will be pretty similar to the book, yes. Giving another example where that wasn’t done doesn’t change that. I just wish if people are going to make drastic changes to a story they’d change the name. Of course they don’t want to do that because they want people to go see the movie believing that they’re seeing an adaptation of the book. In other words they’re trying to fool fans of the book. In the case of I Am Legend, I hated the book. The movie was okay, which in my opinion made it much better than the book. In regard to World War Z, the movie was pretty good, but still left me very disappointed, as I was looking forward to seeing an adaptation to the book.

That made the inevitable ads more shocking then the Zeds themselves 😱 Anyway, good movie which basically had nothing any more to do with the book that inspired it. The initial trailers for it back then made me sceptical because the scene where the policeman on the motorbike is run over by a truck clearly showed a building in the background and a packed street. But luckily it was just a minor niggle and the movie turned out to be quite good. The World War Z co-op Zombie game that came in 2019 has hundreds of Zeds climbing over each over trying to eat the players. It's supposed to be quite fun if you have friends to play with.

Of course I can't read the comments in Norwegian. But didn't see anyone mention Dawn of the Dead, 2004. Anyway keep it up, my friend. Living in Milwaukee Utube has done me a great service. Since you love Tom Hanks, let me suggest Charlie Wilson's War. About the American efforts against the Soviets in the Afghan war

The 10th man is not made up for the movie. Israel actually has something very similar that they implemented after the Yom Kippur War in1973.

Some of this movie was filmed in Glasgow's George Square, the beginning, where all the crashing is, and where you first encounter the zombies,, I've never watched the movie, I don't watch any movies with vampires, zombies or anything else like that, as I know they don't exist, you probably say, that would go for other movies like LOTR, as dwarfs etc don't exist either, but those are much better movies lol

When the book appeared in the German translation, I was still a bookseller. I didn't like it that much. That's why I wasn't disappointed with the film.

I know this is so late. I just started watching these movies with you after the matrix but have seen a few with you now. Not sure if you have seen it but one of my favorite movies of all time is I Am Legend with Will Smith in it. Tom Hanks and Will Smith are my two favorite actors. Also I’ve seen from browsing that you read a lot of books too. I Am Legend was also based on a book and the book was also great but kinda short imo. Side note: the best book and movie combination, I mean that a movie based on a book that really captured it and did so right by it that one can both watch and read it and not have a single complaint, the Hunger Games (series). Not even Harry Potter movies did that for me, matter of fact, I refused to watch the Harry Potter movies years (5+?) after reading the Death Hollows (7th and final book in the series).

Since you're a reader, I think you might really like the book. The only thing the movie takes from the book is the title and, of course, zombies. And yes, I see other comments mention the book as well. I'm just adding my 2 cents.

Would much rather be in Nova Scotia than on a naval vessel. An outbreak onboard would spread so quickly there would be zero chance of survival.
