The problem with blue is they haven’t won an election based on ideas in decades. It’s all been about identity politics and it’s annoying. They always have to create a boogeyman to win an election, most of the time they fear monger things that arent even real. But if you think red isn’t doing bad stuff you’re not paying attention. I'm not saying these places are safe, but I'm always very hesitant when it comes to statistics with tiny sample sizes. When you have a town with less than 15k population, a single bad incident can bump it to the top of the list. It's like saying that rattlesnake-taming is the world's most dangerous occupation. Well...when you've got 3 people doing it and one dies, you now have a 33% mortality rate. It would have been cool to list the populations of these towns. If one had 14k and one had 300, that would make a significant difference in how reliable the stats were.
@abbynormal7036Ай бұрын
I didn't see any towns lower than 8k populations... I did a quick demographic via Wiki... Demographics... Emeryville -40% Whites, Globe about 50-50 when not counting Hispanics as whites, Greenwood MS has about 25% Whites, Marksville LA is about 40% White, Helena West Helena is 20% Whites, Salem NJ - 24% Whites, Muskegon Heights - 16% Whites, Osceola Arkansas is 37% White, Florida City Florida has under 4% Whites, and finally Sauk Village Illinois has a White population of 3% when you subtract Hispanics from the equation.

Years ago, right after Hurricane Andrew wiped out Florida City, Homestead and a large portion of Miami-Dade County, I was travelling to a new job on the west coast of Florida. I was recently retired from the military and was being transferred from my job with Loral Aerospace to one of its radar sites at a little town called Horseshoe Beach, Florida. I was on my way to scope out my new job and make arrangements for a place to live in the area. Where we lived in the Keys, we had very little damage from the storm, but repairs and reclamation was still ongoing in the Miami-Dade area. When I got to the mainland, I stopped in Florida City to get something to drink at the only store seemingly left standing - a 7-Eleven. As I got out of my car, I noticed two young men, late teens or early twenties, lounging around at the front of the store. I went inside and bought a drink and some snacks. When I came out, one of the men stood up and asked me if I had a cigarette. I replied I didn't smoke. He then looked at his friend and said I should give them some money so they could buy some cigarettes. I declined. He then pulled out a stiletto and told me to give me what was in the fanny pack I was wearing. I asked him if he was sure he wanted what was in the pack. He grinned and said that he was sure. I then asked if he wanted to share the contents with his friend. Still grinning, he said yes. Needless to say, when I opened the pack, pulled out my 9mm pistol and told them to get down on the ground, he became very apologetic and assured me he was just fooling around and wasn't serious. I assured him I WAS serious and that the two of them should lie down on their bellies. About this time, the 7-Eleven Manager stuck her head out of the door and told me that the police were on the way. A few minutes later, a Sheriff's car pulled up with two deputies. I knew the Sergeant from a joint Law Enforcement/Military exercise I had attended previously. I gave him a statement on what had gone down and he and his assistant bagged, tagged, cuffed and stuffed the two. Apparently, these two were wanted for strong arm robberies in the FEMA Trailer park down the road. I gave them my business card and told them to tell the State's Attorney to get in touch if he needed me. I have been down in the area several times on business over the years. Neither Florida City or Homestead have recovered appreciably in the years since then. Florida City, as your vlog states, is still pretty bad. It's bad enough during the day, but NOT a place to go at night.

Poverty is no excuse for violence. If people end up stealing to feed their family, etc., it's against the law but there's room for forgiveness. As soon as violence enters the equation, it's over and the perpetrator needs to go to prison for a few decades. Speaking from some experience here. There are more "Want Ads" than people want to talk about...... get a job, move, do what you have to do. Join the military if you're young enough, you'll have to get people off of drugs though. Yeah, drugs are the main problem in just about every situation anyway.

@@notsosilentmajority1 I don't disagree, but what caused them to turn to drugs and homelessness after a life of living productively. Job loss in late life is a big one. Drugs and alcohol are pain relievers.

@@JBoy340a That's assuming they ever had a life of "living productively".

I feel like Clovis should be on this list. It's notorious for how violent the place is.
@tfodthogtmfof7644Ай бұрын
I have friends and family in the East Fresno and Clovis area. The homelessness is worse in Fresno now but crime, graffiti, violence seemed far worse in the late 90s early 2000s in that area. It is an area with its challenges but I would take it over Bakersfield any day of the week.

The aerial view of Helena West Helena shows a lot of damaged and destroyed buildings. It looked like one had cinder blocked windows. Looks like really rough economic times and a past disaster or two kicked a town that was already down.

Emeryville is actually not that different from other parts of Oakland or East Bay. I hiked across the bridge to Treasure Island.

@chrishampton8842 nah, it would be between Bessemer, AL...Benton Harbour, MI or Pine Bluff, AR now and days. Bessemer is like East St. Louis on steroids.

I drive through Emeryville regularly to go to shopping malls and big box stores. Today, I actually thought about going to the Ikea, but decided to just go home instead. Maybe that was the best decision! The most interesting thing about that city is that they still have a Wild West-style gambling club that's been there since 1896. I've heard stories about people getting murdered outside that place and the liquor store that's next to it.

When I was hanging in Emeryville early 2000s, it was hip, lots of IT folks and cafes. Most have now moved to...Portland now.

I rather live in Emeryville then portland. They had a Chicago style pizza place my dad loved.

I had the pleasure of visiting Helena, Arkansas about twenty years ago. Scruffy little river delta town with a dominant employer, Helena fertilizer. Lunching with some of the guys at the plant, I met the mayor. His arm was in a sling because he’d messed up his shoulder riding ATVs on the river bank that weekend. When asked who was in charge while he was out of work, he blithely answered, “Nobody.”
