Your suggestion of using empty buildings to house the homeless has already been done. What they found was that people who don't work for something like a house or apartment, have no vested interest in keeping it clean and fixed up. The people who got free housing basically destroyed the places they were given because they didn't take care of them (because they didn't pay anything for them). It doesn't work.
@WorldAccordingToBriggsАй бұрын
No shit. Everything you said is common sense that everyone knows. But, the alternative is having them on the streets where they have less of a chance of getting back on their feet. It is a lesser of two evils situation. Some people will never get on their feet, that is just the reality of humans and society. That doesn’t mean you don’t try and help the ones that can be helped.

As far as violent crime, even in these towns, your risk of being a victim of violent crime drops precipitously if you are not in a gang and are not family, girlfriend or "business associate" of someone in a gang. Petty crime and theft-related violent crimes like armed robbery are a different story, but staying away from gangs and drugs are huge risk-reducers even in the crappiest sections of Memphis or Chicago.

Birmingham's crime rate is an illusion. The metro area is 1.1 million but the city limit population is tiny, maybe 250k, and that what the crime per capita is based on. Briggs names 3 districts that are where most all the crime takes place. I lived there for decades and never once set foot in any of those districts. I don't even know where 2 of them are. Sure, sketchy people in those districts are offing each other routinely, but they don't go roaming the city at large randomly victimizing people. The recent shooting in Southside was a once in a lifetime thing. Innocent people caught in the crossfire of some kind of gang war or something.
@aardvarmario2 ай бұрын
Same issue with Little Rock. The city limits are so much smaller than the urban area. So the crime for the larger metro area is concentrated in parts of Little Rock. In absolute numbers, yes, Chicago would not only be on the list but Chicago would be number one. But Chicago wouldn't make lists like this because there's over 2 million people. That large a number of people would offset the rate, which is what these lists go by. The cities on these lists have a much smaller number of people, so even though they have much few crimes, their rates are higher.

Whens is 2nd video being released? Monroe Louisiana, Saginaw Michigan, Mobile Alabama are probably making that list.

Okay, what is the most dangerous place in the lower 48? Like the absolutely most dangerous street where I shouldn't even drive through. Minefields don't count, I want danger from the locals.

I remember when Richmond, VA would make this list. I witnessed a shooting next to the VCU campus in broad daylight and it didn't even make the news.

Richmond is a cool city, I was there in July and I walked through Jackson Ward & Giplin by myself as a tourist.

@@juggmane8514 I’d move back if I had a chance. Even when it was considered dangerous it was still a good place to live. You just had to be mindful of where you go and when.

Was in Memphis in the late 70,s and it was going bad. Just to my father there because he wanted to see Graceland. Then he wanted ribs so we HAD to go in town. WOW Memphis makes Brownsville Brooklyn look good

Oakland doesn't surprise me. In the early 1970's I was stationed on the USS Ranger at NAS Alameda. Oakland was a shithole even then.

They have anew show called On Patrol. People seem to love it. Like Cops but better. I have not seen it yet. Just saying.
