@@barabara9855 Yes, exactly the sort of things I'd do with my own game, especially for a big world. It takes time to create a good procgen, but once it's set and tested, you can focus on the gameplay and not the level designs, or the characters or the quests... I love hearing about smart ways to quicken the development process

It's not even the only place I've heard of this trick. Minecraft edits the grass offsets based on location as well as for some textures, it randomly rotates the texture based on location as well. Using location to randomize cosmetics is just such a good utility trick.

I wonder if this can be done with not just colour but the scale and rotation. It would make placing trees, rocks, mushrooms, etc a lot less tedious if they changed their size and shape automatically. I imagine that would require a `tool` script rather than a shader though

6:50 My one nitpick here is that, I beg you to make the NPCs swap themselves out with a low LOD model that doesn't run any logic instead of vanishing completely, just so you can see them at a distance. This is all seriously awesome btw!

Ya upvote this right now, I can imagine a small clan of people who stuffed or overdid their body modification past the breaking point, went crazy and are hell bent on catching the main character due to his unique collection of body modification. for another enemy or miniboss i have an idea. the bulldo-beetle. it is a huge genetically modified, dung beetle that can pick up giant boulders and throw them at the player or charge attack. it has rather a very heavy armor and can sponge a lotta damage. lore for it is that the colonists used these beetles for digging mines and general constructions.

@DavidFong21
@DavidFong21 3 жыл бұрын
Totally agree with this - I’m a musician and (aspiring) sound designer lol, but here’s a few things I might try: 1) determine the natural sounding break times for each of the consonants and trigger the “Oo” sound after that. This way, they can overlap a bit in a natural way. Alternately, you could try dipping the “oo” sound depending on the volume of the consonant (in the music world this is called side chain compression) 2) every now and then, insert a short gap to simulate words/sentence breaks. 3) You could use a hash function to create the random seed for the audio so that each time an npc says the same thing it sounds the same? If you’re not already doing that! By the way, super excited to play this game! Love your channel too. Great work :-)

It would be interesting to explore identity concepts in this - like if you can "choose" who you're attracted to and other parts of your identity that you're born with what is your "true" identity - the parts you choose or the parts you're born with? Can someone else alter the identity of other people and how does this affect them? Is it "cruel" to do so if they think of a change someone else made as part of their own identity? Is it "cruel" to remove that part of their identity if they don't wish it to be?

I had an idea for a critter of some sort! A parasitic wasp that has an attack that injects an egg into your body which you remove before it hatches otherwise it does a ton of damage and spawns a (weak) larva enemy. I figure it’d be interesting to have to prioritize either finishing a fight and removing the egg from your body once your safe or during a fight by standing still and removing it while your vulnerable. Maybe you could get a powerful organ from the larva if you allow it to spawn, the wasp enemy itself could also drop an organ that modifies your finger gun to inject enemies with parasites of your own. Lore wise I like to imagine it was something that was built for war but was ultimately outlawed due to its horrific nature but obviously bandits are less inclined to follow such “conventions”. I just want to say as well your a great inspiration and it’s projects like this that really get my own creative gears turning with all sorts of ideas that I wish I had the confidence to make into reality!

The other day I was discussing level design in star wars battlefront 2 (2005) with my brothers and we all agreed the best maps gave an option to fight through a narrow corridor or be in a large and dangerous exposed area. The worst maps had command posts/enemy spawn points spread evenly throughout and an amorphous globular shape and we're all wide open area. The best maps were winding corridors or multi level maps. Because of the speed and fluidity of gameplay you may want to consider adding wall running/sliding/ modern titanfall2 3d shooter mechanics.

first 30 seconds I see of this game makes me think it's some amalgamation of Ultrakill/general arena shooters, Kenshi, Morrowind, New Vegas, & the space bit reminds me of outer wilds (though I get the hunch that's not as influential). I think I'm gonna be in for a good time.

Funny I saw you making this game before ever playing Cruelty Squad. But now I can't unsee the similarities between your game and CrueltySquad.

You already sound like a better writer than the guys who worked on the new Star Wars films. Always important to ask "why" to help stay on track.

Just throwing a few ideas out there, hopefully something sticks. (Full disclosure, I'm not a game dev, but I have plenty of experience with homebrewing content for tabletop RPGs) Thoughts on organ durability: I enjoy the organ durability degrading over time, but for harder to get organs, I believe a more interesting approach would be these rare organs don't have durability, instead they have different effects based on the character's adaptation to that specific organ. Since you mentioned bandits raid the derelict ships for military hardware, an adaptation module (Think the large tubes used to store aliens in movies) has a random chance to spawn based on the encounters difficulty. For example, a bandit encounter of 1-4 would have a 20% chance to spawn an adaptability module. The function of the module itself would be to further adapt rare organs or monster organs, each rank of adaptability increasing the current effects, or adding new effects (maybe an adaptation tree of some sort?) As a side note, elite enemies would be a cool addition, dropping similar organs to their baseline counterparts, but with added unique effects. Player progression: Since this is an RPG, it only feels right that there's some sort of progression system. However, instead of levels, the player receives boosts based on the number of a specific group of organs metabolized (used until durability reaches 0). This would make swapping organs desirable, as well as discourage the player from using nothing but rare organs (if the prior idea is utilized). A rough example of this would be if the player metabolizes 5 lumps of fat, the health boost is increased by 10%. Maybe "perks" could also be unlocked, based on the mix of organs in the body. A few examples include Chimera being a mix of human and monster organs, Pureblood being all organs looted from humans, and Monstrous from using all organs looted form monsters. Below is a list of monster ideas! Screaming Trees: A brutal punishment thought up by bandits in their Killfuck-fueled psychosis. The victim is turned into a stationary, tree like form with their bodies twisted beyond recognition. Used as a food source, growing flesh-fruit that the bandits eat. It attacks by flinging it's Gib-fruits at you, and lets out an AOE scream attack when you get too close (think Sirens from killing floor) Hard to kill, but cannot move, vulnerable to fire. Lackeys: Another punishment created by the bandits, mixing Oxen DNA with their own. Their intelligence is stunted, with a constant flow of adrenaline and killfuck. Since they are constantly in a berserking state, they are kept in large metal containers, being released when the fight starts. Fleshstitchers: A faction of extreme bio hackers who drove themselves insane, they are now a mass of various limbs, eyes, and mouths. They travel in herds, and will attempt to grab the player, pulling them into on of their many mouths and begin eating them. There's plenty more I've thought up, but I feel this comment is already long enough. I love what I've seen so far, and I'm excited to see where it goes!
