Baby Yoda is a gimmick, not an actual character. He was always going to have a certain level of fad appeal, but he only exists as a MacGuffin to move the plot along. This 90 year old "infant" coos, waddles, does situational comedy and uses the Force to obfuscate plot holes. The show itself is watchable, but they wasted half of last season chasing Star Wars nostalgia and with characters making stupid decisions instead of pushing for actual character development.

I think we are all missing the big picture regarding retail. Just my 2¢ but I'd say the demand for these products was already met before these stores received physical stock. Anyone who wanted Baby Yoda pre ordered him months ago from Amazon or other online retailers. After seeing the doll top the Amazon charts earlier this year, I'm sure many big box stores wanted to cash in as well and ordered large quantities. However, the majority of interested consumers were never going to wait till it hit store shelves due to fomo.

Theory: the only reason the masses went crazy for Baby Yoda was because of low attention spans in addition to terrible products (both end result and failure to ride the hype wave) I saw a lot of Star Wars merch growing up, but when disnry bought star Wars, the amount of crap I saw sky rocketed. I saw stuff like cheap colouring books, balloons, party hats, party favors, streamers, crayons and the like at really bad dollar stores. Thatinfluz of not just merch, but terrible merch in my eyes turned Star Wars from a cultural icon into a fad some company wanted to milk to its fullest. With that change of mindset, people started caring about Star Wars only because it was the pop geek thing to care about, and o my when a new movie was on the way. The same thing will happen with the Mandalorian, mark my words

This is ominous. I made a comment to friends a few months ago that The Mandalorian S2 could start with Mando dropping Baby Yoda off at his homeworld and leaving, and as long as the series follows him instead of the baby, it would still be good, but if they latch onto the baby and blow that out of proportion, it's going to be terrible. The merchandise saturation suggests they're going to throw everything behind the baby. Which is going to ruin the series.

They produced way too much cheap baby Yoda stuff. I doubt a stars action figure of Mando and the Child would be found in the bargain bin. Plushies and bobble heads have only a little play potential. A Razor Crest made for action figures would sell well I'm thinking.

I found a BS Clone Wars Rex and Royal Guard at 5 Below back in March. Not exactly Mary Rey, Donglover, and his daughter in terms of demand, or lack there of. Never saw those in a Target. So I don't know what that says about the state of things being sold. Over production? Terrible haphazard distribution? I find quality toys at Ross/Marshalls/DD's/TJ Maxx/Tuesday Mornings quite often, especially when the Holiday season arrives. So it's not just Star Wars. Jurassic Park, Transformers.

They overestimated how much people wanted baby yoda stuff...

I recall years ago, before Star Wars was killed by Disney and thinking for my town maybe they had too many Star Wars toys.

They got too many now and too many not selling fast enough.

Jeff sounds like my drunk uncle at Thanksgiving, calling everyone names and telling them why they suck. “You suck Squirrel Girl.”

Also, notice we have only gotten 1 Knight of Ren in both BS and VC but I guess we won’t be seeing the other 5 thanks to TOS

Looks like "Baby Yoda" is getting "edged" out by that cute ginger doll and crew.

0:25 the pistol the Mandalorian uses is an 1894 Bergmann No. 1. replica ( as there are only 5 or 6 real No. 1's left in existence) Thought I might add that

I find it a relief to see Baby Yoda wasn't _as_ overwhelmingly popular as I'd been lead to believe over the past several months.
