We might have exchanged glances during this incredible concert Theresia. I was also there at age 16 and it was for me the first time that i saw Oscar and his sidemen and Ella live. I remember the large distinctive/mesmerising black & white advertising posters plastered across Amsterdam. A year later, at the same venue i saw Art Blakey and the Jazz Messenger which really blew my mind. So “hello” again Theresia, stay safe, specially at our ages, from this horrible Covid. Enjoy this trip down memory-lane (now April 2021) & Cheers!

I first heard Ella in 1957 in Moscow, USSR. I was 17. Someone had given me a record to listen to. I was so shaken that I crawled under our huge dining table and stayed there till the end of the record. A week later a friend gave me an issue of America, a magazine published and printed in the USA for the USSR on an exchange basis for the Soviet Life Magazine sold in the States. The magazine carried a huge article about Ella. It was the best gift I have ever received. Now, in 2023 she still remains my goddess, unsurpassed and worshiped.

Just an 18, almost 19 yo fellow here. Ever since I was 12, by chance of finding jazz-related content I got to enjoy a large variety of those great artist of what I see was the golden age of jazz. Ella, out of all of those just slowly stole my heart. Never heard a voice feel so gracious, so full in itself, so cozy and soothing all along. Some songs even getting that far into me I can't help but cry of how much I end up enjoying it. Really grateful for all of those who have preserved her legacy this well and letting me and everyone discover such an amazing singer as her. Hope you all people the greatest day you can have.

I don't remember the exact year, but sometime in the mid to late seventies I had the privilege of seeing Oscar Peterson, Joe Pass, Niels-Henning Orsted Pedersen, and Ella Fitzgerald at the Vancouver Playhouse. I regret to say that I was in my twenties and new to jazz at the time, and didn't fully appreciate what I was seeing and hearing. I dearly wish I could go back in time with my 71 year old ears and see that concert again, and experience it for what it really was. Fortunately the music lives on, and thanks to posts like this, I get to hear it with the appropriate awe and unclouded pleasure it deserves. Heavenly!

Everyone goes on about Oscar Peterson and every bit of it s true if not more. He speaks for himself as is in a league of his own. However, that drummer was beyond amasing. All he needed to do after was spin on his head. I could have watched an hour long on his diverse rhythmical drumming taking one down an exploration of beats in all its glory. I don’t think even the best of today’s drummers are as good as him and should use him as their only mentor. I also loved the way that guitarist slapped his guitar but I think some of the great sound was coming from the drummer to say the least. The violin had such a different feel to just ear exposed to classical and was music to my ears. Loved all the instrumentalist. All at the top height of their game and would put today’s instrumentalist to the test if not with some be too much for them. What a concert played by geniuses of music. As for the second half with Ella - well I don’t want to write too much. This must be one of the greatest concerts ever if there was. 😊❤

I'm from India and Jazz concerts are very rare these days here. In the late 70's / 80's/ early 90's We had annual Jazz Festival know as the Jazz Yatra and that had kept some like me intrested in Jazz. During the Pabdemic read a few books on Jazz History and started listening to recorded Jazz again. The good thing is this black and white Video puts faces to the names and it is an absolute pleasure. Special regards to the Sound Engineer who captured this audio with all the audio Engineering limitations of recording live music then.

Surely you were willing to say PLANDEMIC and messed up with the keyboard didn't you ? Right ? ;°)

Boy, you got it right! Recording engineers are superb. Clear as a bell, not overdriven. But skipped several tedious passages, so maybe.

38:20 -- Oscar's devine touch, or is it distinctly human.... Best footage I've seen in ages, but to see my heroes in their early 30s is really topping it all.... So alert, yet relaxed and completely in tune... Long overdue if I may say so, boldly.

It's simple MY BROTHER... "GOD" IN THOSE HANDS. ONLY "GOD" can create such talent. I just turned 57 this year. It hasn't been 2wks since I asked my Pops about jazz, because I like it. Pops reply was OSCAR PETERSON..PERIOD. So I pull him up. Mind you, I never heard of him until then. Long story short..Oscar Peterson..The Best Jazz Pianist..EVER..
