It's not only the sheer dominance but his ability to pull well above his own weight class. John was most successful at the 198lb class, where he remained undefeated on the right hand for literally 20 years! The kicker is that he would often pull not only HW but also SHW divisions in addition to his own, often in the same tournaments, and still walk away with the overall win. Nowadays we have guys that are so big, they could never pull above their weight class because they weigh well over 300lbs. There's no one around now, with the exception of an aged John and maybe Zoloev and Toddzilla who even dare to pull against guys that big. John pulled Lupkes and Cleve Dean many times, each of those guys was twice his size and often three times his weight. I miss those days of seeing a "David vs. Goliath" match where the smaller "David" could actually win it.

There are very few in AW history who were capable of pulling guys in 3 or 4 different weight classes all the way up to Super HW and still taking the overall win in a tournament. Those guys could be counted on one hand. Zoloev, Toddzilla, and John. No one took more overall titles and world #1 than John. I don't think his record could ever be broken, not even by the best guys we have today. Even if Devon or Levan continue to pull for the next 15 years, I don't know that either of them could capture anywhere near the world titles John has. It's quite amazing really.

Even if prime Levan would win against prime Brzenk, pound for pound Brzenk can't be compared. His natural strength is greater than anyone else's.
