To be honest, I almost feel like there's something more to it than that. With as far as medical advancements have come, people live longer than ever. It's cruel as can be and I'm not saying I agree with it, but I have my suspicions.

It's not like US hospital's where we get treated first and billed later if you can't pay. They have to pay upfront for the second, third and fourth vaccine. I don't know if you noticed but they're already extremely poor. They hardly have anything as it is. They have to beg and borrow money for the treatments and if they have no one to borrow money from their child dies. That was such an ignorant and heartless thing to say.

You are correct in saying that dog vaccination is much cheaper than human vaccination, and it has the added benefit of addressing the problem at it's source, as opposed to simply treating the issue. I can't understand why every country has not eliminated rabies. There just has to be a way to not only inoculate dogs but any mammal that can catch rabies.
@rabiesalliance3 жыл бұрын
99% of human rabies cases are caused by rabies in dogs. While some other species maintain rabies (e.g. bats, raccoons, skunks, foxes, etc.), their public health risk is limited. While it is possible to vaccinate most other species, it is not practical until dog-mediated rabies has been eliminated in that country. It is for this reason that the global goal (and our mission) focuses on the elimination of dog-mediated rabies. While this may seem simple, it is a complex task that requires multiple stakeholders in every rabies-endemic country to work together. It also requires resources to undertake these interventions and ensure that enough dogs are vaccinated to break the cycle of transmission and create herd immunity. Therefore, we provide tools and resources to governments and other partners to help them drive their efforts in a sustainable manner. We would welcome your support and involvement in raising awareness, educating others and contributing to our cause. Please consider donating - just USD3 can vaccinate another dog: bit.ly/3dgw5AB

Unfortunately, rabies is often underreported and not prioritized, so authorities may not be aware of the problem or the need for a solution. That is why we started World Rabies Day - to raise global awareness about the disease. Furthermore, although free bite treatment for people would be good, it would be even better to vaccinate the dog population to ensure that the problem is addressed at the source. If we can eliminate rabies in dogs, we can eliminate 99% of human rabies deaths globally.

@michael uzumaki Unfortunately, we are unable to provide medical advice. However, the protocol for rabies post-exposure prophylaxis in this case seems to have been followed correctly in the most part. The WHO recommends that RIG is administered in and around the wound area where possible, thus seemingly the doctor has followed the guidelines correctly. If you are concerned, please speak with your health provider to determine their reasoning for this. We would then encourage you to ensure that you complete your full course of post-exposure prophylaxis. It would also be helpful if the outcome of the biting animal was determined (whether it was owned and vaccinated, or unowned, or the vaccination status unknown) as well as whether a sample was taken or if it was quarantined. The fact that the dog was very aggressive does not necessarily imply that the dog was rabid, as a typical sign of rabies is a change in behavior. Therefore, the animal may always have been aggressive, indicating that this is normal behavior. If you require additional information or if you have questions, please contact us directly via email so that we can address these questions in a more comprehensive and timely manner. info@rabiesalliance.org

I'd say just making rabies vaccines free or affordable in the areas afflicted might be a better idea. That, plus a trap, neuter/spay+vaccinate and release can put a considerable halt to feral populations over a generation or twos time, at which point there'd be less bites and need for people to get rabies shots. If the billionaires or multi-millionaires of the world or the manufacturers of the vaccines gave half a shit, they could help stop this disease by making the vaccines affordable or free where needed until rabies was eradicated. Rabies has been completely eradicated in about 25 countries (including the UK, Australia, and Sweden) due to the measures they've taken. If someone spent the money, it could be eradicated everywhere. However, there are also industries that have a vested interest in rabies sticking around while being manageable. I've read somewhere that rabies vaccines only cost under ten dollars for manufacturers to make (but that was one source as Google didn't give me any more results.. interesting that the info is so hard to find), yet the cost that the patient pays is in the thousands. In the US, 1-3 people die annually of rabies, and none statistically are from dog bites. For animals, the cost of the yearly vaccine is considerably less (usually under $50). There is extensive proof that animals only need vaccinations every 3 years, yet the veteranarians require it yearly. If rabies wasnt still present to some extent, vets would lose out on the profit of all those yearly vaccines that are mandated by law even though they're proven to only be needed every 3 years. And so would the medical industry, which makes people or their insurance pay thousands for the rabies vaccine any time they're bit by a dog who's vaccine history is unknown.

The vaccinations are no more painful than any other pin-prick. Decades ago, when the vaccine was less developed and was injected into the stomach area, the injections were painful. However, with modern vaccines, the injection is typically in the arm and is only as sore as any needle-prick.

What to do after three years of dog bite,( without vaccination)?
@lextavactchi4 жыл бұрын
Depends if the dog had rabies during the bite, and it isn’t hard to tell if a dog has rabies. If symptoms start to show, there’s nothing anyone can do for you anymore. If the dog displays the behaviors, you should get vaccinated immediately. The symptoms can appear not very long after the infection.
@joanbaczek25753 жыл бұрын
If you didn’t develop rabies in 3 years the dog didn’t have rabies. The longest rabies stays dormant in your body is up to one year and even that long is rare

We are sorry to hear about your dog bite incident. According to global recommendations, you are still advised to seek medical treatment for your potential rabies exposure. The latest WHO guidelines recommend that you still seek post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP) irrespective of the time taken. PEP is still effective up until the point that symptoms manifest. There have been (rare) documented cases of rabies incubation periods of several years. Always seek medical advice from your local health professionals to discuss our risk.

Wonder if once you get rabies and are then cured in time if you are immune?
@coud876 жыл бұрын
Margaret Drew The vaccinations will only work for that period of time when it is administered. After the rabies has been prevented, I don't think you will be immune to rabies. You could still be suspectible in contracting rabies should you be bitten again by a rabid cat or dog.

You'd have to research about the girl who survived using the Milwaukee protocol
@rabiesalliance3 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately, if you get rabies (symptoms manifest) then there is a 99,9% chance of death. Rabies cannot be cured. Although there have been some cases of people recovering from rabies infection, the circumstances around these cases remain unclear. The Milwaukee protocol is not a recommended means and has been shown to be ineffective in scientific literature. We would recommend that you rather prevent the disease by ensuring that your dogs and cats are vaccinated and that people avoid bites and exposures.

Thank you. If you would like to contribute to our mission of eliminating dog and human rabies globally, please visit our donation page. bit.ly/3dgw5AB We are grateful for any support. As little as USD3 can vaccinate a dog and prevent a child from experiencing the pain and suffering from a rabies exposure. Vaccinating dogs is the best means to eliminate rabies in both humans and animals.

@rabiesalliance3 жыл бұрын
We are sorry to hear about your scratch. We would advise you to seek medical treatment immediately in the case of a potential rabies exposure. The local medical professional will make an informed decision based on the situation as to whether you require treatment and your risk of rabies. Be sure to inform the medical professional of your concern about rabies and disclose the full history of both the animal (if known) and the exposure. If the cat is vaccinated (and the vaccinations remain up-to-date) then there is less risk. If you are unsure about the current status of the cat, you are advised to seek treatment, even if the exposure occurred a long time ago. It is only too late to receive treatment once symptoms manifest.

@rabiesalliance3 жыл бұрын
Free human rabies prophylaxis would be good, but it would be better if governments could deliver effective mass dog vaccination programs (coupled with education and surveillance) so that rabies can be eliminated at the source. By eliminating the disease in dogs, we can eliminate 99% of human rabies cases. It is for this reason that we at GARC work with governments to develop and deliver effective, sustainable rabies elimination strategies.

@@minervabanks3966 i think he's dead. you need to take it within 24 hours. before it gets in the nervous system. the Dr who answered knew. VERY sad. people should NOT delay if possible as yeah if the animal had rabies virus in their saliva at the time of the bite than 2 weeks was too long. same with tetanus. so the shot sadly didn't protect them as it would have been 2 weeks too late
@ldgg38714 жыл бұрын
@@gretchenlanderos You're wrong. The period of time until the virus reaches the central nervous system a.k.a. incubation period will certainly depend on how far was the bite in relation to the brain, the spine and nervous terminals, as well as how much of the virus was injected through the wound. It is adviced for people to get the first shot as early as possible because nobody can calculate for sure how long will the incubation period last. If the wound was located far from the brain I would believe 12 days aren't enough for the body to show symptoms, so as long as this person followed the right treatment, they probably made it out alive.
