To see the haka performed so well by the whole team (Māori, Pacifika, European), and then to receive affirmation from across the world is such a credit to our Women. Most of the Māori women in the team have been nurtured in our Maori culture - it 100% makes a difference to the delivery - and even the content. For our international viewers - The beginning part was a welcome to our visitors (with no irony intended related to the contest about to start) - this was spectacular. These words only make sense when you are speaking as 'home people' - so this part is unlikely to be performed overseas.....And when the haka is delivered like this there is no translation needed for the second part (lol).
@dallashibbs6540 Жыл бұрын
@Hamish Banish I like the equality ideals of a good contest too. I do think culture can make an event or occasion a little more memorable - especially if it is authentic and honours the contest- think big marching bands that play before grid iron games in the US or the elaborate ceremony before Thai kickboxing contests. Most visiting teams / athletes/ fans savour the experience. Try talking to the Irish team / fans that defeated the All blacks in 2022 - they rate the series win as the single most significant moment in their 120 years of playing test rugby.

Back in the day, when the All-Blacks would come to England, you couldn't hear the players on the field as the whole crowd would be screaming Swing Low Sweet Chariot at the top of their lungs. To fear the haka is normal. To cower before it is unforgivable.
@ladameeidolon5 ай бұрын
Being Māori I can tell you that when haka is performed in this setting it is an acknowledgment of the bravery and prowess of their opponents. It should be well met. The opposing team should also be inspired to feel heart, body and soul their own pride of country and know they absolutely are worthy opponents and that they will give everything they’ve got. Of course there’s a constellation of aspects from the Māori pantheon of gods to the actual and practical as well. Funerals, graduations, war, peace, weddings, there’s a haka that can be eloquently composed and magnificently performed for them all. The principle wahine Māori knew their te reo and had great singing voices. Tihei mauri ora!
@robinogle9743 ай бұрын

So true. Other than crossing a literal line (which I totally get to avoid a pre-game confrontation), teams should be able to do whatever they want to face the Haka. Heck don't face it and take kicks (I forgot who did this) if they want, just be ready for the consequences on the field.

Wow... Lots of respect for these youngsters who are demonstrating their traditional roots. Well this act resembles me similar to "Maa Kali", while both the Haka and Maa Kali's act involve movements and expressions that convey power and intensity. The Haka is a traditional dance form of the Māori people of New Zealand. It is performed by a group of people with vigorous movements and stamping of the feet with rhythmically shouted accompaniment . The Haka is often performed to welcome distinguished guests, or to acknowledge great achievements, occasions, or funerals. Maa Kali is a Hindu goddess who is considered to be the goddess of time, change, power, and destruction of evil.

@@sebastianradlmeier8922 Thank you for your lovely message, the heartfelt compassion is felt. It is nothing in comparison to what Palestinians undergo. To me personally while it is a commonality to face this with transgressors of the day, what is as akin to the white phosphorus chemical agent is when someone comes close with declarative oaths and is the Janus faced with the aim to extirpate. My life will forever be one with discriminations but I am content in being in my hermitage with the memory of my late cats environing me. You're very kind, I have been bludgeoned to death through words alone, and in my lifetime I was physically pinned too by the rotundus wheels that I viewed as a bulldozer all because I stood to defend our plot. Thank you so much for your empathy, with the salve of your words kind one, it does pin a smile to the sullenness. May you be an attainer of the irenic, with its peace Sebastian. In Kindness, Yasmin.

The were 17-0 down to Australia in that game and the came back to win it. That started their RWC 2021 campaign which ended in NZL beating England 34-31 in final. The Black Ferns are the greatest women team to ever play the game. My favourite Stacey Fluhler (Waaka) played a match winning game scoring an excellent try and setting up the match winning try. She is an icon 🥰
