Lots more torque down low and you feel it over the gt350. We’ll have to compare to 350 on same dyno
@ryanwinkelman1781 Жыл бұрын
@@midnight347peak horsepower is a useless number when you're comparing 2 completely different engines. The 5.2 flat plane crank in the 350 doesn't have the low end torque the 5.0 has. That engine was built for road course racing and turning insanely high RPM to get out of corners and down straights quicker. From what I've seen motor trend got a 12.5 1/4 mile out of the dark horse at the Charlotte roval...which may not even be a prepped surface like at a real drag strip. That's basically the same 1/4 mile time as the gt350 and the dark horse is 250 pounds heavier. All things being fair a 24 dark horse would most likely beat a gt350 by a couple tenths on an actual drag strip with a prepped surface. The selling point of the DH is getting the tremec 6 speed. And yes, it's expensive but we're also not living in 2018 prices anymore. Everything has gotten a lot more expensive. Is it worth getting a DH for 65k over a regular GT for maybe 48k? If you have the money, the tremec 6 speed makes it worth the price. The 20 horsepower increase not so much.

I'm a huge Mustang enthusiast . I have been checking out a few other channels that got the Mustang Dark Horse and views are just not there. Nothing against MM they are amazing. I just think the Dark Horse is not that big of a deal, we as Mustang owners expected so much more out of Ford. If you just go back a few years and see how popular reviews were for the Shelby GT500 Now that was a total redesign and quite the impressive Mustang, so was Shelby GT350 and MACH 1, if we are talking about specialty Mustangs . Ford has that ECU on lock down and I don't see in the future ford is going to make it any easier to tune or modify Mustang/Vehicles that might change, but that depends on the EPA. I do think the Mustang Cobra variant will be the Mustang to get. Great video though 👍

16 more HP than the GT, honestly I like it but I don’t think it should cost 20k more interior looks damn near identical, exterior is alright just don’t see why people spend 20k more for it when they can get a fully optioned GT
@raionshishi8290 Жыл бұрын
Well it is a track version of the base GT, it's noticeably different exterior wise and in has increased performance overall, there is that difference. If we look at all the special track versions of the cars vs the regular base models like the 350 vs 350R or the GT500 vs GT CFTP, they all cost well above 15 - 18k when you add ONLY those track specs options, other options included increase the price of course. This is not 20k over a base GT, more in line with the 15k - 18k pricing as a base GT Fastback is 41,495 and a Dark Horse is 59,270. This puts it about 17k increase. None of these track pack specs increased the horsepower btw, it simply added more aggressive aerodynamic features and beefed up or increased certain attributes that helped performance overall like the Dark Horse option does. It generally is not that different at all from before where a fully optioned GT350 or GT500 would cost the more or less the price of a track pack specked car with no other options or maybe a few.

Seems like the Automatic are getting less hp at the wheels and they are also auto is much heavier transmission. I think for stick shift is the way to go for a dark horse. just dont' race a dark horse with an auto ya might lose :P (just dyno race them instead)

we just wanted to test it in its stock form at this time. see how it compared to Ford's ratings. We will play with it more in the future.

Is ford going to allow tuning with this ecu?
@MiddletonMotorsports Жыл бұрын
Not sure it’s going to be a minute. We’re hoping to see a venture with Whipple where it’s warrantied and tuned. We’ll see how it plays out

@RJ-vg3yu: I went to a seminar by Ford engineers by invitation only: they stated that the ECU/ECM encryption has been provided to Whipple, RTR & Ford Performance inc. So it will take about a year for rest of tuners to secure the data to unlock the encryption.
@midnight347 Жыл бұрын
@gordydexter2615 it's not just that they can see if it's been tampered with and flag it even return it to stock remotely. Only "Ford approved" tunes which are gonna suck compared to real tunes. I don't think it's gonna be figured out like people are assuming. I don't think it'll ever be fully ironed out tuning wise like we're used to up till now.

Love the technology in this new generation, but the Mustaro styling is disappointing. S550 was a much better looking car.
@midnight347 Жыл бұрын
It's basically a tweaked s550. It looks alot like a 15-17 s550 the shape of the headlights I don't think it looks bad it just doesn't look enough diff from an s550 for an "all new" mustang imo. The locked down ecu and tablets on the dash seal the deal for me I'd rather have an older stang that can be modified. These are overpriced and overrated.

Charge $20+ thousand for 10-15 more hp over a GT and an SS 1LE.. And less torque than the LT motors.. Its just not worth $70k bucks.. My buddies SS 1LE made 424hp and 428tq last weekend on the dyno before the cam & intake.. His car was $48k.. and has a better transmission. I left Ford and went Camaro too.. Love my ZL1, and glad I grabbed one of the last ones they are gonna make.. Same price as a Dark Horse with forged internals, a blower, and 150 more hp and a bunch more torque.. Sad Chevy is done with them, but Ford is taking advantage of the fact of no more Dodge and Chevy competition and over charging customers for not much performance..
@raionshishi8290 Жыл бұрын
A Dark Horse option costs 17k, and that will land the pricing about 59k not at all 70k or as you said a 20k+ option. It's also 14-20 more hp depending if you didn't have the Performance exhaust option on the base. Either way it's making more hp for a lower price and performing better overall than most of the cars mentioned since they pass 70k and the Dark Horse would require more options added on to reach close to 70k, or you can mod it with the extra cash and beat them all the same. Generally this is good money being spent considering this is cheaper than a 350R which is pretty much comparable to this car in performance overall and the DH should be able to beat it even if down a little on power. All past Ford Mustang trims had a track spec option that would cost about 15-18k like the GT350R or the GT500 CFTP. Both simply added certain parts that helped increase the overall performance without any hp increase itself. This car is cheaper than both and ads a little more hp, more aerodynamic components and better overall performance parts to help it on the track as it's made for.

@raionshishi8290 this thing isn't even touching a gt350 or R. It's down 30 horsepower with a shorter powerband and weighs 270 lbs more. The DH is literally a heavier mach 1 you ain't touching these for 59k, no option DH I seen start in the 65k range, gotta love dealer theft smh.
@raionshishi8290 Жыл бұрын
@@johnflanagan6231 Well the Mach 1 is a little faster than the GT350R, so like I said, it should be capable of either beating it or be comparable in times, also, like I said, it's cheaper, so it being a little slower would not be a big deal at all. Also dealer mark ups exist on any car, so it's still gonna be cheaper since the base price is lower. The point I am making is the pricing matches the performance.
@johnflanagan6231 Жыл бұрын
@raionshishi8290 every test except for a track comparison. 1/4 mile gt350 11.7 at 120mph DH 12.5 at 115mph. The dark horse actually brakes better but ever other metric it got slaughtered. The mach 1 was a wash since it beat the 350 on one track while the gt350 beat it on others. The price doesn't match.. I would even bet a 24 gt with performance package will run with a DH just not for long without the coolers
@raionshishi8290 Жыл бұрын
@@johnflanagan6231 The DH is capable of low 12 high and slightly possible high 11, also how exactly does the price not match if it's cheaper ? If it's not faster but is cheaper than that makes sense, it still hangs with them which is kinda the point. I also heavily doubt a PP could hang and like you said it won't for long either if it did at the start, which completely nulls that since a track car is made to keep going consistently around a track and fast.
