Really find it interesting how Neil is using the stats to assess his own game! Besides loving snooker, I'm a big Baseball fan as well. When you get an understanding of how the stats work in baseball, it gives a deeper understanding of the game and insights in performances. I love how Neil is applying similar methods to asses his own game! Never really heard anybody talk about snooker like this before. But it actually makes sense. As a quite static, repetitive and contained game it lends itself ideally for statistical analysis.
@krystofdayne
@krystofdayne 5 ай бұрын
Well put. I also love all the statistics but my interest is pretty new in the sport (only really got engaged around the 2022 UK Champs) and I feel like there are still a lot of "old-school" guys out there in snooker who feel like looking at these stats is like a "nerd" thing to do (for lack of a better word) that you don't need. These guys often talk more about the intuition and natural feel of the game as opposed to discplined training like you have for basically any other sport. Not to say they don't value practice, Stephen obviously did in his heydays, but just in the general way that they approach the sport.

@@AsifSaeedSaeed-se9lp you are right! Being only one of three overseas players to have won the world cup. Just ended a 16 year streak of winning a ranking event each year. The first player to break a 100 centuries in a single season. Completed the triple crown with 3 UK's and 2 Masters. Achieved nothing this guy!

Neil is not only an ardent student of the sport but also one of its most exceptional ambassadors. Drawing inspiration from various sports, his analytical approach combined with his talent and "snooker brain", as Ronnie calls it, makes him such a dangerous opponent. As a result, it is no surprise that Ronnie and others hold him in high esteem.

Really interesting to hear Neil assess where his game is etc. Neil is a world champion and no one can ever take that away from him. However he has chronically under-performed at the Crucible over the last few years. There are a lot of players who have won the world championship once. Neil's talent i my mind means he should win at least one more world championship and maybe another after that. If he can achieve that then he goes up into the next bracket of players considered to be the best who have ever played the game and won at the Crucilble. He seems in a good place to give it his best shot this time round 😊😊😊😊

How about accept the fact that your best days are behind you, one world championship form a player with your talent is a massive under achievement and the problem lies with the desire to beat a player at their own game like playing safety against a player like selby rather than just play your own attacking game, too many times iv watched you take two three minutes to play a safety shot which just bogs you down and gets you involved in a game mentally which you shouldn’t be doing let your natural game come through and you would off won a lot more than you have, unfortunately now your best days are behind you and I don’t believe you will ever win another world championship masters or uk tournament.

I love Ronnie O’ Sullivan no question he is the GOAT, but Neil Robertson is a great player by any standards, so is Judd, Selby, Allen, Higgins and Williams. Giving a player credit for their commitment and contribution to the game should never be viewed as disrespectful. Belittling players of this stature in the game does little to enhance your hero whether it’s Ronnie O’Sullivan or some other player. Negative comments about all these great players and they are great players; they have won triple crowns events -have their own place in the history of the game. Anybody who thinks Selby Higgins Williams Hendry are not true legends of our sport are not fans of snooker. I don’t understand how people cannot see Trump the shotmaker, or Robertsons long potting brilliance as skills to be admired and applauded.
@sharpvidtube

@GordonCockfield-js7gt Winning at the Crucible isn't easy. I think Judd can probably match Alex Higgins, lots of time to get that second Crucible win. That would make him him a great for me. Might be harder for Robertson, but I think Mark Allen is good and he's still on zero Crucible wins. The competition is so strong now.

Sometimes the magic is on destiny that many taken granted . Destiny can be improved or deteriorating. Anyway you can’t be like the age of 90 and still be like 30 in snooker.
