Like everything, timing and a little finesse and honing of your skills and you've got it. I spent my childhood with my PawPaw learning to bank fish and then moving into boat fishing. There are many things to consider when fishing; too many to go into here and you get the jest. Great fun in the sun with the ones you love on a bank in Finland.🤗

Fishing is something that I wish we were able to do more often. Unfortunately we can only carry so much stuff with us. I hope Avalon and Largo don't come running to us that we deprived them of this great sport.

Siberian Jay is a special bird in Finland, the ancient Finns thought it's a saint bird and harming one would bring bad luck. They are intelligent, related to crows, they soon realize humans are ok, they check the camping sites whats on the menu today. In the old days they were called ' the lumberjack's friend', they often were the only living thing you met in a forest in winter. They only live in old forests, which is more common in north.

You won’t have problems catching off the back of a yacht while moving. My family has a couple of yachts, drop a couple of lines in the water with spinners and check them every so often. You’ll get your dinner every night!
@WorldTowning

That would be ideal. We did not get a lot of hope based on today's experience. 😅

Are you hiring a skipper? Or dose one of you have the relevant training? Some countries require a licenced skipper to sale a yacht in their waters. Italy for example. Think drivers licence!

Another great video with a subject matter close to my heart. My Dad used to take my Sis and I fishing every summer and I remember loving it from the get go. If you enjoyed the exercise and choose to try again at some point, you'll find you get better control from a shorter pole, side casting is much safer than overhead and most fish dislike full on afternoon sun, you'll likely get better results at dusk or on cloudy/rainy days. If all else fails, expert advice aside, try hooking a chunk of cheese on those lure barbs and watch what happens! P.S. The videography of you hand-feeding the birds was absolutely stunning. Wow! How beautiful.

If you want to fish for your dinner, better learn to use nets, and learn where the fish moves - their loving habbits. And of course different species eat different things, move in different areas, and during different times of the day. And they need different type of nets, mostly because of the size - don't know if there are other factors.

I'm afraid it's private property of the safari company. So no camping allowed there (unless you are their customer). Anyway. There's no shortage of similar lakes in Lapland.

You should try taking 6 or 8 10 year old Cubs fishing. You get to spend your time removing hooks from places they should not be or untangling lines and mass pandemonium if one should actually hook something!! Dont go sailing and expect to feed yourselves fishing! Look at some of the family sailing blogs and you'll see they might catch one fish every other week!

The hard part isn't catching the fish or cooking the fish. The hard part is cleaning out the whole fish that you caught. They are different from the store bought ones. I can do all 3. But cleaning them out is my least favorite part. You get this weird fishie smell on your hands, under your nails, in your hair (don't ask me how) that doesn't wash out for 3 days. And your clothes are permantely stained with the weird fishie smell. Its not an average fishie smell. Its a psycho fishie smell. I would have liked to have seen Will the dad clean out a fishie. Aren't you glad I found your channel so I can talk about the fishies? I use to be a marine biologist in college. I was very low on the totem pole. Which meant I cleaned the exhibits and small aquariums and fed the animals. So I prepped lots of fishies for the hungry animals. At that time I was a vegan vegetarian as far as my diet goes. So cleaning out the fishies grossed me out. But sharks, seals and shoreline birds don't eat veggies. They eat fish. So I had to do it.
@WorldTowning

That is insane. I know that you have to start somewhere, but wow what an experience. We share with the kids that they have to be willing to do anything that they ask of someone else, so they too are starting from the bottom up. As far as cleaning the fish, that was what we were excited for with the guide. He would have cleaned them for us. 😜
