World War Two

Күн бұрын

Mao Zedong takes his first ever journey by plane to go and meet with Chiang Kai-Shek. They begin what will be several weeks of talks and negotiations. However, Chiang is not aware that Josef Stalin is lurking in the background. And the Soviet Red Army is lurking in Manchuria, having defeated the Japanese there, and are giving tacit support to the Chinese Communists, whose power base is very strong in the north. As for Japan, a motley collection of Allied fleets arrives in Tokyo Bay, for Japan's surrender document is to be officially signed two days from now.

They say that the US military's superpower is logistics, but take it one step beyond and it's also a bureaucracy. Sure that gets a bad rap, but they at least get this "boring" needed stuff done. I think most functioning militaries have like 10-20 back end people for every one combatant. And to add on to the first point, there are a number of videos on why invading the US - short of using nukes - is impossible. But none that I've see have discussed how horrible the logistics would be for the world.

I so much want this series to continue post September 2nd. This content, giving us real-time information on the post-war order, is to me perhaps more interesting than the wartime itself. The coming years, full of Chinese Civil War, independence wars throughout East Asia and the Middle-East and power struggle in Central and East Europe prior to the victory of Communism, would be fascinating to go through week by week. The Korean War Series surely is great, but it skips the key years completely

That dedication is such a fascinating reminder of the breadth of duties involved in the war. Although far safer than his comrades the massive load and importance of work must have taken a heavy mental toll on him. I still remember the day I accident stumbled into this series. I was laying on the bed late at night scrolling through KZbin on September 8, 2018 which was a Saturday and I was 16 years at the time. It was a week late as you had started the series on September 1 which was the first Saturday of the month. Since I followed your channel since the onset of the First World War, I immediately subscribed. I was a Junior in high school at the time and literally counted to 6 years and said “I’ll be out of college when this ends”. 6 years later, I’m a college graduate 22 years of age. A lot changed. Covid, had a sucky high school graduation, my father passing, and graduating from the university. Now my journey with the Korean War has started but it will never capture what this series means to me as this past 6 years of my life so much has changed… and the time ghost team has been present directly/ indirectly during those changes that have defined so far my life. Thank you 🫡🫡

Damn...I know I have a bunch of episodes to catch up on (I'm getting there) but I can't believe it's been 6 years and this is the final "regular" episode. You guys started as I was starting uni. I've since graduated last year. To Indy, Sparty, Anna, Astrid, and all the team at Time Ghost, thank you. Thank you so much for letting us live through history.

Been watching this series since Week 1. It's been a ride of epic proportions, to say the least. Definitely feels like the end of an era of my life as this series helped get me though some rough times by giving me something to look forward to every week. From the bottom of my heart, thank you everyone at @WorldWarTwo for this amazing series and everything you have done!

There were WW2 bunkers around Naval Air Station Atsugi, and at facilities at Kamisaya and Totsuka when I was stationed in Japan during 1981-86. Not to mention tunnels at the Naval base at Yokosuka

When the soviets captured Manchuria and the Japanese Kwantung Army tbere. They turn over all the captured Japanese equipment to Mao's guerilla forces. That included 1,000,000 rifles machine guns pistols. 4,000 field guns howitzers and mortar. 1000 tanks and armoured vehicles. Large quantities of shells and bullets to go with them. From then on Mao's guerilla army was no more a guerilla army and could fight Chiang forces in the open and win.

2:25 I think the crew of the USS Barb SS-220 would disagree. On the night of the 22nd to the 23rd of July 1945 they landed a small team on Sakhalin (back then part of Japan, now part of Russia) to blow up a railway and a train. They succeeded and, since the train fell into the sea after being launched into the air, are the only sub to have sunk a train
@stevekaczynski3793
@stevekaczynski3793 18 күн бұрын
I read that a British sub in WW1 destroyed or at least damaged an Ottoman train. The train was moving down a track right next to the coast. The British sub surfaced and opened fire on it with a deck gun. At least one hit was scored on the train, though it did not fall into the sea.
