My grandfather took part in the original Operation Cobra and he told us a story once about how his squad had to demolish a pill box outside of a liberated town in France. Loaded all sorts of Ordinance into it and had it set to do a controlled demolition until General Middleton shut the door on the Pill box and it actually turned it into a ballistic missile which demolished the only church in town by landing it on top of it. Luckily his Lieutenant had a flat tire otherwise he would have been in the church to watch the detonation of the Pill box.

Ok, you said it turned into a ballistic missile. Do you mean that so much pressure built up from that explosion that the place literally flew into the church?
@michaelbenjmitchell1
@michaelbenjmitchell1 4 ай бұрын
@@caseyynelmss No When I mean it turned into a ballistic missile I meant it. It went straight up into the air traveled over a mile in a arc sailed over my grandfathers Platoon leader who was on his way to the church to watch the demolition from the bell tower and then landed directly onto the church. They stuffed that thing with at least 5 tons of explosives. If it flew into the church you would have alot of damage to the Village due to it flying laterally.

The "tacticals" are extremely more enjoyable to watch (and I imagine participate in) compared to regular reenactments. Sure, letting the public watch is really important, but being able to use actual squad tactics and not just stand in a field and shoot like it's the 18th century is way more appealing to me. Also you don't have to hear children crying in the background or parents saying stuff like "Look at that!" or "Do you see the soldiers!?" to their kiddos.

Wonderful videos, but I have a question. I'm headed to the *80th* *Anniversary* *of* *D-Day* and would like to know about any uniforms the 101st Airborne used during the drop. If you could maybe give me a short list of the specific uniform's names and their equipment/clothing names, it would be wonderful. All my search results were either fake, or not very helpful, and they were all reproductions. Please comment if you could help. Thank you! -Kilo Productions

The basic paratrooper uniform would be the M42 paratrooper's uniform. They also had their own special jump boots, and the helmet had a few minor differences (most notably the chinstrap). In the 101st, they also painted a card suit on the helmet to denote the regiment (the famous 506th PIR used the spade, for example). For equipment, you could probably just use the standard belt and all that, but 101st quartermasters were also known for making custom ammo pouches called "rigger pouches".
