Truth is the ATF has nothing to do with it. There are still legal m1919a4 machine guns. "Fully transferable" as they say. But instead of paying $20k these dudes want to pay $7k for a semi auto. Makes no sense

This is NOT a criticism. I noticed that you use the word "fun" a lot to describe your WW2 reenacting experiences. While I don't think the brave men who actually took part in the real events would use that word, I think I know what you mean. Although you are not facing death, you are getting a taste of what those men went through; the tactics, the confusion at times, the mechanical malfunctions, the unexpected (like the Ukrainian solder), and the comradery of your fellow reenactors. Thank you for sharing your experiences with us.

Would you be willing to discuss how this event is 100% safe? I believe it is safe but I still have questions. E.g. did they make any rules or did you make any particular effort to not point weapons toward the spectators? Are the weapons modified? Is the ammunition checked by someone in authority prior to an event like this? How can this be 100% safe but movie sets are - apparently - unsafe? Love your content keep bringing it!

I can't speak on US events, since I'm British, but over here it is very safe. When using a live firing gun (known colloquially as a "Front-venter", since the gasses escape from the front of the barrel) with blank ammunition (which would be a Section 1 or Section 2 licenced weapon here), you should never point it at a person directly, regardless of if they are a reenactor, or a member of the public. Since most guns in US re-enactments are "front-venters", they should not be pointed directly at anyone, they should either aim above, or to the side of a person, as blank rounds can still hurt someone at a close range. There is also a range in which you should not fire a front-venter at all, but that is typically too close to be a major concern in a typical battle. The weapons such as the M1 Garands do have some modification, as they require a "blank adapter" to allow them to still fire in semi-automatic while using blank ammunition. Some weapons (such as the M1911 pistol seen in this video) are specifically designed to only fire blanks, these will be top or bottom venters. You can see in this video there is a small hole in the top of the M1911, that is where the gas escapes, with the main barrel actually being blocked entirely, nothing can go through it, therefore, it cannot fire live rounds. Some blank firing only guns use specifically blank calibres, such as 8mm, which they do not produce a live-fire variant of. In the UK, most fully automatic weapons in reenactment are blank firers. Many members of my group have top-venting blank Thompsons, STENS, and MP-40s (though out MP-40s are semi-auto only), and even a blank firing bottom vent section machine gun (BREN) owned by the group. Sometimes ammunition is allocated by the event organisers, but this is not often the case. I had a small battle a while ago where we were allocated ammunition for certain weapons (unfortunately they had no short 12 gauges for our mortar crew, much to their disappointment). Film sets are also typically safe, it's just that things can go wrong. The immediate examples I think of are The Crow (1994), and the more recent Rust (TBA) incidents. Both situations had to do with the incompetence of the armourers, and the lack of knowledge on firearms handling from the rest of the cast and crew. In both instances, live rounds were on set when they should not have been, wither to save time getting dummy rounds (in the case of The Crow), or seemingly just for fun (in the case of Rust). The lack of safety on a film set really comes from the lack of understanding of firearms and firearms safety from people who work on them. Reenactors know their guns well, since they typically own them themselves, or operate them a lot.
