I discovered your video lesson after trying to wrap my mind around QBO, but without any meaningful success, for the longest time. (This is my second attempt; I simply gave up the first time.) After following the course step by step, I arrived at receiving a paymet for an invoice which was created from an estimate. The reports i created at the beginning of the course all rang true! I cannot find the words to describe how very grateful I am nor do I know how to thank you for guiding me to this point. I no longer work for an employer; my masonry "side work" has finally become my small business. Keeping the books running smoothly, and knowing just how to do it, is critical. I have about 4 months worth of invoices recorded. How difficulrt would it be for me to go back and fix the accounts and set it up according to how you show in your videos? I dont want to start with a messy set of books but it looks like I would need to upgrade to a higher tier of quickbooks ( Plus) and I would have to redo all the transactions from scratch is that correct?

How do you create the item list for fix and flips? Do these items go directly under Flip in Progress on the Balance Sheet and then move to Cost of Goods Sold on the Income Statement when sold? Do you use the same item lists as in construction, such as Demolition - Subcontractor, Paint Materials, Electrical Labor, etc.?

Hello Again. Do you have a video on how to do perdiem and milage for the super attendants on job sites. for example: I was able to add milage and nontaxable peridem to their paychecks, but do I need to create an expense for them every time?

Thank you but that would depend on the procedure between you and the superintendents and the other professionals and the arrangement you have Do they submit a mileage sheet for you to pay and reimburse ? Do they want you to track their mileage from their phone and switch on and off the moment when they go from job to job ? Those are the types of things it would depend on Mark

For a general contractor should you handle cost codes in the cost of goods section as direct costs? Would you have a GL account in COGS corresponding to an item that would be a cost code linked to that account?

I would love to do that and I hope to do that in the future but there's so many other videos that need to be made and I'm just one guy but I'm going to keep going till all topics are covered Anyway you should know that an investment company is the same except for how they earn Revenue but they're expense situation and all the other things covered in QuickBooks videos here would still apply You would have to get an experienced accountant to tell you how to record the revenue of an investment company and then you could fit that part into QuickBooks with your knowledge from these videos anyway If you saw the full tutorial you should be able to do it and if you need any other peripheral topic please ask me and I will send you the link and I hope you will click like after watching each to help support the free channel for everyone and please subscribe Mark

Hi I thank you very much, you are a good teacher and explain things well. I set up construction company in quickbook online So i did not find the report of estimate&progressive invoicing report . I actived progressive invoice And made estimate but yet report is not ready.

The chapter in this video that shows "account settings" will demonstrate how to activate the progress invocing feature. Then it will work. hello! My name is Dallas. I have a question. When I receive bills in from our subcontractors, on their bills I need to hold 10% retention, if they did not already. How do I report that correctly? do i make a chart of accounts called Retention Payable? Because I can't pay them the retained amount until we are paid the retained amount from the owner. Same thing with change orders, how to I make an account for that so that I can easily track them. thank you!!

Oh yes that's an excellent question and I could not include that in this video because this video is already Four and a 1/2 hours long. I do promise to make an advanced contractor series where one of the videos is the progress invoicing with subcontractors and everything is in reverse So therefore you are correct Just like the retention chapter in this video shows retention receivable,. You would have to make a current liability account and make it retention payable. You would have to connect an expense item and learn about expense items in the expense item chapter and connect expense item to the retention payable account and do t hee exact procedure for retention but in reverse. In fact you could do progress in voicing in reverse with your subcontractors if you use the purchase order as the estimate and make bills against the purchase order. I do have a video that shows how to make Bills against purchase order and even though it's part of the inventory playlist. I could still give it to you if you're interested. Mark

Payroll is an add on app with a separately paid subscription But if you want to learn it , I suggest you pay the subscription because they have separate tutorials and they have phone support for those who pay
