16:01 These Stadler FLIRT’s will be extremely beneficial to the branch as it runs though a fairly dense part of the Chicago suburbs and has stations every 4 blocks. The units are also being built so that future electrification will be incredibly simple as they change using a pantograph and are built to be able to run off of standard overhead power.

Glad to see another episode of this great series! Hopefully most if not all of the intercity and long distance passenger rail proposals eventually come to fruition, since they're restoring services to places that haven't seen any in decades. Otherwise, I'm glad to see Tri Rail finally going to Miami Central, and the Genesis looks amazing in Phase 7.

The reason Metrolink can't electrify their system is because not all the tracks they run on are theirs. Some of the tracks are owned by UP or BNSF or Amtrak. The amount of their OWN tracks are very small so the cost of electrification wouldn't be economical. The only way I'd see it happening is If Amtrak proposes it and even then, their tracks are very limited too

I wouldn’t mind if Amtrak had a passenger version of the ES44C4 for the long distance trains. There is room in the inverter cabinet for two more inverters: one for HEP for the train and another one as a spare. Such a unit would also have a large fuel tank instead of the relatively small tank and its engine and radiator could be similar to those of the freight locomotives. These would also be cheaper than pure passenger locomotives. These engines could also be readily converted to freight when the more expensive pure passenger locomotives are funded and available.

Biomethane, Hydrogen Fuel Cells, Battery Electric Multiple Units. It's amazing all the effort, of backflips & contortions, that Rail Operators are investing in finding these Alternative answers for Zero Emission Trains, instead of using those resources for the real answer of 25kVAC OHC Electrification, because that infrastructure would be "too expensive". In another strange turn of history, it turns out that the perfect technical solution in transportation to climate change has appeared late in the ` game '. That solution is named hydrogen. In the meantime, developers of train systems have been working on developing electric, i.e. battery-' powered locomotives. But , for a variety of reasons, these are not a long term solution to the problem. So the task now is for all concerned is to switch focus and work out everything necessary to convert all locomotives to hydrogen.
