That moment when you realize that this is Taylor listening to her mom play, and Taylor's mom probably would have understood all of Taylor's decisions if not actually approved of them. I mean, Taylor was raised by a woman who joined a gang in her own youthful impertinence, it sort of runs in the family. Taylor just...had powers. And so took things a wee bit further than dear old mum.

the funny part is that she COULD HAVE gotten a better story, if it wasn't for the Brockton Bay Feudalism Experiment. Killing Alexandria was the best thing she ever did.

@@alexhulea2735 Not exactly. Brockton Bay was a control in the larger Parahuman Feudalism experiment. Cauldron just had the minimum involvement to avoid contamination of their sample, until Coil came along. Also, she's a very interesting protagonist, but Taylor definitely made her bed. Consider that she went from "They're going to kill kids?" to preemptive self defense, killing Aster, her teammate's very young half sister.

I still highly recommend it even if Wildbow's writing and backstory is pretty hackneyed in order to justify his grimdark world. If you take the world of Worm as "circumstances have put us at this point," it makes sense. But the author's attempt to justify those circumstances is pretty flimsy at best. I also consider Worm to be lightning in a bottle, and the other stories he's written just can't compare to the example. I'm especially not a fan of the sequel, Ward, as it's simply "What if I made everything worse and portrayed all the fan-favorite characters to be terrible people? Apparently the readers didn't get my message that everything is awful and you should be sad."
