I just had a pair of JW Boots half-soled at my local guy (old school, been in business for 40 years). The heel/midsoles are still in good shape, but I'm hard on the front sole. They came out great. When they need it again, I'll have everything done.

Gents that's exactly why I wouldn't hesitate to send my next resole to you. When unfamiliar with something of this nature I leave it to trusted craftsman. Same with my ice hockey goalie pads and gloves. I do minor and medium skill set repairs but the bigger jobs go to the guy who's fixed and restored stuff for players at every level...youth/amateur/college and pro level. Those boots look fantastic

I always thought that the decision half sole/full sole would be based on the condition the shoes/boots were in when the shoemaker got them. Never thought it might have anything to do with what type of shoe or boot it is! I've learned a hell of a lot watching you guys...

The condition of the shoes/boots can sometimes make a difference, but unless they’re in really bad shape, a half sole can be done. With boots, it’s definitely more of a factor.

When I wore them for work, I always had my Justin Ropers half soled. If I recall correctly, I could get 3 resoles done before needing to replace the boots. Nota bene: I very recently saw restoration videos on a vintage skiver & a 1908 Sears leather sewing machine, model #29-4. I immediately thought of your channel while watching those restorations.

Appreciate you thinking about us! 😉👍 Yeah, 3 resoles is typical if using the same welts. If the uppers are still in good shape, a cobbler can throw on new welts and you’ll be good to go for another few resoles.

Get some rubber sole boots, with a quality leather upper. I wear rubber sole cowboy boots in the rain all the time, no problem with traction if you get the right ones, basically like a hiking boot traction wise, but they look like cowboy boots. Yes it's not traditional but it looks much classier than anything else with similar traction and durability. Edit: I wear them in the snow too. And I have a traditional pair for when it's dry and sunny. That's what I would recommend.

I have a pair of double H western boots that I have worn for 3 years across 13 states as a contractor. My tastes have changed and I prefer lace ups for my ankles and knees. I have a question unrelated to this video, but since this is your latest installment, I thought I'd ask it here. Quick rundown: Rockport nubuck chukkas with Gore-tex lining from the early 90's. Inexpensive, but important to me. Never had any care beyond wiping clean and applying silicone spray. (I know better now, but I didn't back then.) Not bad, but could use some TLC. Watched many vids. Confused. Which Saphir cleaner? ( I've come across two.) Will it work in spite of the silicone? If not, what alternative? Which brush/brushes? (Hog hair? Crepe? Both?) Do you recommend the spray Renovateur? Should I use Super Invulner, or would Terrago Nano be okay for a boot of "lesser quality"? Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.

I have a Q for Trenton and Heath about how to care for cowboy boots made of Crazy Horse leather. I, am a green horn & bought a 2nd hand a pair of Tony Lama boots (in good shape, close to new) made of crazy horse leather. I liked the look of the leather because it was not to fancy and looked kinda rough and tough, not too fancy but still really cool to look at. From what I have gathered Crazy horse leather is made from full grain, veg tanned leather, the type that horse saddles, belts, some furniture is made of etc. The leather is a bit hard (kinda like a new RW iron ranger might be, so expect to do a lot of walking to break them in. My question is how do I care for these boots. They don't need boot polish as they seem perpetually kind of waxy and oily and I don't want to mess up the color. But I figure they must need Something, some kind of care. Can you guys tell me/us how to care for crazy horse leather boots and what your opinion is of them? Others might have similar questions as mine about them. Thank you very much for you time.

You’d have to change the welts to 3/4 welts or 360 depending on boots

Honestly I was disappointed with y’all. I reached out to get some of my work boots restored and got told it couldn’t be done. Something about the boots not being Goodyear welted. I honestly would have spent the money on it whatever the cost because I knew at the end of the day I could have gotten them resoled if they got converted to Goodyear welt. I love y’all’s work and videos but I was truly disappointed that y’all didn’t even try to even work with me. So now I’m currently trying to learn the art of shoe repair.
