I know nobody's gonna read this, but the story reminds me of the whole oxycontin shenanigans. How mellophine was claimed to have a lower abuse potential from a controlled release formulation like oxycontin itself, how tibaine derivatives is mentioned as an ingredient like oxycodone itself is a derivative of thebaine, how the approval process is pretty much marred with corruption and shady tactics, how the potential addiction risks were downplayed. It's an interesting parallel.

It's more than possible that inspiration was drawn from that incident. Reverse's team has proven time and again that they always do their homework, so I'm not surprised if that's the case.
