I'm happy I've found your channel. This is really good and it helps so much with the basics. If I may make a small suggestion, it would be even easier for noobs like me if you could use a different colour highlighting for the left hand pressed keys - it is particularly helpful when the hands are close together. Thanks and God bless!

Excellent lesson! Is the "add 2" the same as a "sus/ sustain/ Csus? Lesson was easy to understand it, the way he teaches. Looking forward to experimenting with these 2 new chords.
@kwilson5832
@kwilson5832 Жыл бұрын
No, "add 2" is not the same as a "sus / sustain / Csus". It is the same as a "9" though. (If you played 2 octaves of a scale, the 9th note would be the same named note as the 2nd, just an octave higher). A "sus / sustain / Csus" chord adds the 4th note of the scale. I play the 4th note instead of the 3rd, as I think it sounds better than if you play them together. In most cases, you would 'resolve' the pattern by returning to the triad without the 4th note, so if you play a Csus (C, F and G), you would return to Cmajor afterwards to resolve it.

Just out of curiosity, what's the logic behind C-1, then C0, then C1, then C2 etc as labels? Most people keep C1, C2, C3, C4 etc & keep C4 (Middle C centered in the middle of the screen.)

Not a 2, but it's a Major 9 (+9) these are called extensions

Thank you for bringing this up. In classical theory and often in old school guitar tabs or books, these chords may absolutely be written as a (9) or (add9). But when playing contemporary music, session players use (2) or (+2) in this case. You would only see a (9) or (add9) when the chord also contains the 7th tone. This makes it faster to play on the fly when reading from a number/chord chart. So for example, in the key of C we’d have… C(2) which contains the tones 1-2-5 (C-D-G) C(+2) which contains 1-2-3-5 (C-D-E-G) C(9) would be 1-3-5-7-9 (C-E-G-B-D)
