Thanks for doing these tours. They have been useful while planning a large facility add on. One minor correction: 9:43 the mixrack is actually the mixer. It is the brain and does ALL of the processing of the audio. You can have any control surface (or no control surface). In fact, if the control surface in the booth dies or gets disconnected, the audio will continue uninterrupted because it is not processing the audio at all. You could continue on the iPad or another surface. The mix rack can contain audio inputs, but they are not required if they are present elsewhere in the system or audio network. This is a huge difference between this type of system and a fully integrated one like an X32. It would allow a touring group to have a different control surface for on stage monitors and FOH, but only need 1 mix rack. In expansive, facility-wide systems with a good network, you could theoretically get away with 1 mix rack and many control surfaces (assuming the channel counts and buss availability needs were met).

Wow, out of everything excellent they had in the setup. I got excited about cable management! One thing that gives me OCD is the unmanaged cables in our Media/TV Room! I also love how he said the Pastor likes to make last-minute changes. That is a standard expectation that the media team has, lol. I can't wait for our church to rebuild. I will suggest AVAD3 at our next meeting.

You guys should do a tech tour of "Hope Bible Church", in Oakville, ON, Canada. It's a great example of a church that really values excellence and quality, without appearing like highly produced "rock concert" like so many of these other tech tours you guys do. :) It's a great balance I find. They also have overflow rooms, which I don't think I've seen in any of your tech tours.

An observation about the wireless mics. He said that he kept the SE grills with the Beta 87 capsules. The grill plays a major roll in the proximity effect and frequency response of the capsule. They are not really designed to be mixed and matched.

Love these tech tours Jake! Thanks for bringing them to us. A thought I always ponder on and I wish there was a poll of some sort done- I often wonder what decision the majority of Church’s make when it comes down to spending on production upgrades. How many church’s take the approach “let’s go ahead and get it because we believe the impact it will have will be exponential” vs. “let’s just get what we can piece by piece as to not spend too much in that area all at one time.” I know there are several variables that play a part in that and that different churches place a higher value in different areas of ministry but anyhow, I just wonder. Do you have any insight from your vantage point?

Great video but a poor explanation of the Allen and Heath Mix rack. The mix rack is where all of the processing happens for the DLive system. The console is just a control surface. Any IO on the surface functions like a stagebox.
@braydenbarriault6879
@braydenbarriault6879 Жыл бұрын
He was incorrect bout the dLive system. The best wording I’ve heard for it was that the mix rack is the brain and what he was calling the “console” is actually just the surface. Same way a profile or an S6L has a brain and a surface. Benefit (or problem) of the dLive though is that your brain and io is all one rack where avid has the brain and the io separate. The mix rack having three additional ion slots and the surface having two additional io slots that connect to the mix rack the same way the surface does.

Because the sound engineer needs to hear the sound most of the crowd are listen to. That’s why it is called front of house. It’s ideally in the middle of the venue.
@indi2174
@indi2174 Жыл бұрын
I would NOT put it directly in the middle center of building.. but rather just have the downstairs instead of the balcony or just avoid any high place for mixing sound. And never put the soundit into a full covered booth. Never do that for live. 😜😊
Жыл бұрын
I will say it again: you really don't need F1.4 or whatever you are using filmig this. Too shallow depth of filed is not useful when trying to present information and detail. It also makes it harder for your focus, wich is distracting. Basicly there is too little your are showing on this tours, and it is a shame - a lot of people, me including, think this is is really the best content of this sort out there!

And all this is paid for directly by your neighbors who work hard for their money and genuinely think they're giving it to build "the kingdom of God", as if God needs any of this technology to spread his message.
@procutmediagroup
@procutmediagroup Жыл бұрын
Where does it end tho? Don’t build a church building cause God doesn’t need a “room” to spread His message. The reality is people are giving to the kingdom of God. A pastor can be creative with his message, the worship team can be creative vocally, but DO NOT under any circumstance be creative with lighting your pastor, making sure people can hear him, or putting His slides on a screen for visual learners. How dare you!
@jordanhenshaw

@@procutmediagroup Slippery slope fallacy but sort of reversed. Basic idea here is that the amount of money put into this is absurd. My church, the one I grew up in, yeah, we had an audio guy and we had a handful of sound panels for acoustics, and we had a few theatre lights up there, but nothing too special. Since I left (after graduating high school), they've updated from analog mixer to digital and they added some uplights as well. The auditorium is technically a gymnasium. I now have the tech theatre skills to seriously improve their lighting, but even if I was asked, I wouldn't change it one bit. It was perfect the way it was. It's not f-ing theatre. It's a church service. The technical stuff should only be there to illuminate and amplify. Contrary to your comment, it's more than possible to draw a much MUCH better line between egregious over-spending on theatrical gear that's obscenely gratuitous, like the church in this video, and having a decent, modest church service, like my hometown church. You can argue that you reach more people with all the fancy tech stuff, but if that's what's driving audience size, you're probably just increasing audience size. You're probably not increasing church family size. It's not supposed to be an audience. It's not a theatre house. [Edit: It's really more of a false dichotomy than reversed slippery-slope]
@procutmediagroup
@procutmediagroup Жыл бұрын
@@jordanhenshaw ok but what amount of money is ok? So is it ok to only spend $50,000? $100,000? 1,000,000? Like what’s a lot to you, might not be a lot to a church with an operating budget of let’s days $10,000,000. A smal church spending $10,000 for an entire tech but has an operating budget of let’s days $75,000 per year is less frugal, then a $10,000,000 operating budget church spending $1,000,000 for a one time install. So my question is what is the number since we are being so dogmatic here. If it’s wrong fine, what’s too much and what isn’t too much. Cause again, a lot to you, might not feel like a lot to someone else. Also if we are only talking gear per se as you mentioned too much lighting how many lights is ok? 3 and then once they have 4 it’s bad? 10 ok but once 11 it’s bad? Cameras? 1 ok but 2 is absurd? Like it’s very legalistic stating some is ok but “this amount” is just too much. If the leadership at that church felt they were being good stewards and using it the right way, who are you to say “well that’s just too much”. Ok take half of it all away. Is it ok now?

@@procutmediagroup Exactly how much make-up does a lumberjack need on a typical day on the job? Exactly how much make-up does a Hollywood actress need on a typical day on the job? In performance venues, the question you’re asking is the correct question to ask. However, in God’s house, it’s not the right question to ask. Because it’s not supposed to be emotionally manipulative performance.
