01:40 tbf the original movie also only feature the titular alien for about 3 minutes, but theres a big difference on HOW Ridley Scott uses the alien in the first one and the actually sixth (because prometheus is still an alien movie) one

Well, yeah, only 1st movie came out in 1979 with relatively small budget. Unlike Covenant which came out in 2017 and about 100 mill budgets. In addition, if i remember correctly studio was originally afraid Alien 1 would be just another forgettable horror film so they tried to pay attention to the characters. No idea why Ridley didn't do the same with Covenant.

I've heard a few theories like that, but unfortunately Ridley Scott did confirm that this is in fact planet of engineers. Idk, maybe they have a few colonized, cause if it's just one it's kind of lame for the world building.

Idk, Aliens 3 and resurrection weren't as disappointing, in my opinion. They were made back in 90's , had a smaller budget, and didn't have an iconic director that made 1st film. Unlike Covenant did.

Covenant is actually a very good movie. I think its the 4th best movie in the franchise. This is from someone who can see through Camerons 3D magic in Aliens. I know why that movie like all of his movies has the staying power that it does. Once you see these magic tricks, which have actually kept Hollywood films alive for the last 40 years, you can go back to basics and see filmmakers for the expressionists that they are. Ridley Scotts visial storytelling in Prometheus and Covenant is as visceral as it was in Alien or Blade Runner. Theyre beautiful movies and im not even a big fan

I love this movie tbh. You´re the proof that everything here is possible. Humankind is pretty faulty and influenceable. When a ship receives a signal and the crew decides to follow, i find it believable. They wanted to be with their families remember? When 1 dude takes off his helmet and the others follow, i find it believable. Just go watch Barbie.

Love how you're defending this movie and yet calling humanity in there stupid lol I have no problem if somebody likes this movie, but consider this. When they receive a signal, they have no idea what the nature of it is. Space in the world of the movie is relatively unexplored. The crew is supposed to take care of the 2000 people who are still asleep on this ship, and yet they decided to go to this unknown planet, when even when some characters point out the monumental risk. Scene with helmets in Prometheus was massive idiocy because in that movie, characters who do that are scientists and have to know if air is breathable, it can have unknown deadly illnesses. They don't even need to take it off. I would understand if they took it off cause they couldn't see well or some, but no, they just took it off, so all the effecting was possible in the script of the film. Also, I don't even like Barbie movie.

To me, it was definitely the worst disappointing, since the director of the 1st film was coming back to the franchise. In addition, there was so much talk in marketing about how this movie is gonna explain all the lore and other questions fans had.

Prometheus is one of the worst movies ever made. The scene where she claims to "just know" a scientific theory is wrong should be put on a reel so i can best Ridley Scott to death with it.

even if the characters are beyond poorly written it does answer some questions. They told us where the engineers came from and that they were likely created from the blood of the deacon that they worship as a god, that's what the engineer in prometheus drank in the beginning, u can see it has a gold shimmer as opposed to the black goo which was likely their attempt at recreatng the gold blood. We also know that the world in covenant isn't actually the engineer homeworld, just an old weapons outpost or smtg. i think its likely those are just engineers with a slightly altered genome as they're all much shorter, have nipples unlike engineers, and have human eyes as opposed to fully black ones, you can also see it in their architecture, it looks nothing like the design of the ships. its unfortunate that covenant had so much external interference because I think the script had a lot to offer before all the changes

For the question on the Engineer’s planet, did you ever question or think that the planet may have been a secondary tribe/ or even a lower caste within their hierarchy? Like obviously there’s a difference between the Engineers overall appearance, the “engineers” on this planet had eyes similar to humans rather than the ones that where shown in Prometheus (completely voided out)

I thought so too, but in the first draft of scrip and interview, Ridley Scott does confirm that this is, in fact, the planet of Engineers. I feel like they just wanted to save on cgi/ makeup. That's why they look like that.

@@purplegeorgyit is a cool mix of gothic “stormy night in gothic castle” “Dr Frankenstein” horror and visceral alien slasher horror. The chestburster scene in particular, with the music, is weird as fuck, creepy, also kinda beautiful. It is a pretty good sci fi horror movie if you are looking for freaky weird existential gothic shit, but a bad “alien franchise” prequel . It, like the origininal alien, is about the fear of the unknown in space, and human’s existential dread in the vastness of space. Covenant doesn’t care about being consistent with franchise lore or having smart characters.

I'm not sure how that makes a great movie. I see why you liked it. The atmosphere you describe is good, but that doesn't save the inconsistency or absence of smart characters that you agree are there. For me, the atmosphere gets ruined when you think about what is even going on. Since the "unknown of space" bacicaly is only dangerous because these characters are acting unsafe and stupid. If they just used the space suit, stayed together, and didn't land on random planet they have no information about like really astronauts. The movie would've been miles better.
