Sorry to hear of your loss Mercedes, glad to see you guys back on the road note to John that storage pouch behind the driver seat is perfect place for the tire plug kit. Start packing one as you never know when your TST will let you know you've got tire trouble and might not have cell service there. So ask Me how I know and I was running Michelins LTXs as well. Happy Camping.

John - you're very aware of the many things you've got to keep an eye on while towing - can you imagine how much more difficult it would be if someone was saying it all out loud to you while you're doing it? I think a couple circuits around the RV Park or a big parking lot would've given Mercedes - and you - more time to become acclimated to your respective roles before heading out to a busy highway. Next time will be much easier.

I am so very sorry for your loss. Keeping you all in my thoughts and prayer for peace. You did amazing driving the rig for the first time. The best advice I can give is always remember the trailer will track to the inside of s curve much farther than the truck but while keeping that in mind don't forget the back of the rv will also swing wide. All that being said stay to the outside of curves and turn but if its a tight space, such as a campground entrance gate try to stay in the middle.

Sorry for your loss Mercedes. God WILL get you through this Get your tire to a tire shop and have it repaired correctly (inside patch) ASAP. Plugs are a very good TEMPORARY fix for high pressure tires to get you to a safe place to get it correctly repaired. Being it is a steer tire I would seriously consider switching it with a rear tire. The tire you had repaired is now blemished. Even if repaired correctly, there is still more chance of catastrophic failure than with a non blemished tire. I wouldn't want to take that chance with being a steer tire AND the load you are carrying. I drive truck for living and we DO NOT run repaired tires on steer axles. If a steer tire blows you could most likely lose control, if on any other position you most likely will just tare something up. You two (3) will find your groove. Safe travels.

I was just on Hillsborough road in Tampa last year at this time & the speed limit on that road I remember was 45. So I did 35mph because everytime I got up to speed I had to stop at a light! And when I would keep up with people would still cut me off & I could feel my breaks getting a work out. I was due on that road till I got to the Expressway for a good 11 miles or so that would eventually take me to the 10 East. Ton of lights. So I just sat back did 30mph that way; when the lights up ahead turned green I hardly had to use my brakes, just coasted. Oh. And no one cut me off when I went 30mph, they all would go around & stayed up ahead!! 🤔🤔✌✌ And that was around 10:30am & traffic seemed like it was rush hour. But that was back before the pandemic. Anymore there is never a good time to get out on the roads. Ever!

I used to help friends driving the first time. We go on the same block many times, turn right only for many days just to conquer the fear being at the wheel of s moving car, worrying if the lane is big enough, anybody behind, in front, on the sides. Then we proceed to left turns only, and then we mix for a few more days. Then we go on the freeway, make the same entry every time, take the first exit, come back, make the same entry and the same exit. The next day we take the second exit.... repeat and repeat. We talk about the instruments during lunch time a few days before, like the hazard lights, how to brake, not to use both feet on automatic cars....And when you give instructions you say once not the entire time the car in motion like John for an entire turn. . The driver should concentrate, be quiet, unless she has questions. And John needs the technique to teach. She is a great student. She needs to have a feel of the rig on her own and readjust herself the first time. And she will learn more the second time, and the third time. If John is there to adjust for her, she will depend on her own time alone to learn when he's not around. By the way I don't know how people can enjoy moving around in such a big rig. We are all different. I wouldn't go through such trouble to have those amenities. Life itself has enough burden on us.

Secondly, you did awesome pulling the rig!! I've been towing a 33' travel trailer for a year now and more recently we traded and have a 34' 5th wheel (for the last 4 weekends) and I still get a tight feeling in my gut when towing. Especially when driving through metropolitan area freeways. It does get easier but you will always be more on guard with the RV behind you. Stay safe as you all start traveling again...

Here is the reason why most husbands should never teach their wives how to drive their RV. At several rallies across the US there are driving courses for women, several conducted by women. I will never plug a tire. I spent 30+ in the tire manufacturing industry and know the safest way to repair a tire is to have the tire removed and patched on the inside. Don't understand why the fifth wheel attached would stop you from putting the spare on. I've seen it done before.

I get what you are saying but they do have a TPMS system to monitor the tire after the plug. It's a good idea to have the tire patched from the inside once they have the time and location to do so. I plugged a tire in an old car I had and it lasted until the tire wore out so they can work well if properly plugged.

One time I was hauling a 38’ foot boat which my husband getting for a friend, Illinois to Florida pick up the boat in Florida drive back to Illinois, and of course I was stuck driving through the mountains going 70 up the mountains and curves. The part that was the worst was going downhill at 70, a truck in my left lane saw I was coming up to a slow moving vehicle with a trailer and he is flashing me to get over😳. Well of course I had to. You just don’t mess with truckers😆. And all the time my husband and daughter sleeping in the backseat. You did great! My condolences for you about your grandma. It’s tough. Grandmas or the best! My mom was forced to drive when my dad, on blood thinners, suddenly started hemorrhaging because of an unknown ulcer in his stomach. They were in their late 40’s. John...You are a bit intense. You remind me of how my exwife use to act when she was teaching our kids to drive. My kids always wanted me to teach them rather than my wife because of how nervous she sounded. I would suggest a different approach for teaching others which you may have done but just did not record. 1) Let her drive the truck without the trailer and tell her where to be in the lanes, how to turn left, how to turn right and how to stop before ever hooking up the trailer to the truck. 2) Let her drive on straight roads to start with or at least a parking lot where she can get a feel for the brakes and starting to move. 3) Don't let the first drive be on a day when you have had other stresses going on. Your blood pressure will already be up and the new driver will just make you even more nervous. 4) Save the stressed voice for when you are really in danger. Otherwise, if you are in a situation where they need to react, they may just think its you overreacting again. Mercedes you showed a lot of patience! You guys take care. If you are coming through Birmingham, AL anytime, give me holler. We have a 50amp connection that my in-laws use when they visit you can use. Safe Travels! Joey
