Ngl, I feel like the Spanish Democratic path should've had a focus similar to one in the francoist Tree, where nationalist Spain demands control over French North Africa, it could be changed around to like be a "protection for Morocco" or something where you make a deal with France and the Allies to Join them in return for getting control over North Africa For another Worst democracy, one of the most pointless ones I'd say is Canada independent, since you just have a few naval bounus, screwing the Uk for having America in the allies, and not being able to get control over Newfoundland.

I agree with you mostly. For a lot of democracies, the issue that makes them unfun is that while the game bars you from military aggression, it usually gives you nothing in exchange. You should be able to politic and negotiate your way into new deals and pacts. At best, you’ll get a couple focuses for joining the allies and maybe politely asking for land and not getting to fight for it if they say no. They should do something for democracies like the HRE in EU4. You’re heavily restricted in fighting wars in it, but can use diplomacy, strategy and manipulation to worm your way into becoming the emperor, and even making everyone your puppet. It’s a different playstyle, but it’s unique and can be pretty fun. Maybe as a democracy you get a whole new diplomacy system where you can pressure other nations to sign treaties and agreements that can target key issues, like one nation giving back a core in exchange for giving them factories for X years, or working together on a coup against a third nation.

The Spanish Civil War is no joke the worst war in the game, the first few weeks are fun, but if you haven't basically won by that point BOY OH BOY IS IT GONNA BE FUN I love it when I get arbitrary modifiers that tell me "you won't push unless you go out of your way to push a button, but it will only work for a few days in one state" because historically the war lasted 3 years and the game couldn't do it without the worst bandaid in the history of the game (especially when this war is hardcoded so that encirclements can't cause the enemy divisions to starve, truly magnificent game design, I love when major mechanics get arbitrarily ignored like) It does not improve the gameplay, it just makes for a piss poor experience and I am sure that more people played Spain before the update than after

civil war mechanic with those debuffs is just boring, sure it is unique but it's waaay to slow if you play normaly or for the first time

honestly I feel Rep Spain can be a cool playstyle but the focus tree kills it. You have the choice of either becoming a Soviet puppet or having a horrible industry for the rest of the game, if you go with the independence war you lose the soviet aid one of the few pros of going that path to begin with, every other focus is just better than Rep Spain's branch. The anarchists can core every state in the game, the Carlist's get buffs that give them the power of god on their side, Franco makes the civil war easier, join the allies and get steal some of France's land, and build industry. Multiplayer Stalinist spain is actually pretty good because the soviet player can buff spain with soviet aid, and in single player the independence war is pretty easy. The Spanish directory you gain free south American puppets and get a some easy wargoals.

Yeah, democracies in sp can be pretty boring depending on certain things (unless you just want to play against germany.) but in mp I always try and go a democratic minor, because gosh dang it, someone has to lest the world fall to literal chaos! Democracies are required to jeep balance to a non-hist game, but nooo, everyone wants to go fascist because that’s apparently the only “fun” way to play..
