"Sometimes people watching this show mistake my casual way of interacting with locals for a lack of reverence or outright disrespect. Reality, I'm never forced to put on a fake display of deference for the simple reason that I don't pity these people." Sonny perfectly put into words what I have always thought about his interaction with different people from different cultures. He clearly has no intention of degrading people or disrespecting them. If the way he goes about interacting with people upsets you, it says more about yourself than him. Keep up the good work Sonny

I never once thought the way you interact with these foreign cultures came off as disrespectful. The thing I like most about this show is how authentic it is and you are. I think too many people don't understand that their forced, excessive displays of respect are patronizing and alienating. You immerse yourself in a very real way, as someone fascinated and in love with foreign cultures and traditions without assuming the role of someone who believes appropriation is the only way to experience them. You don't have to pretend to enjoy drinking cow bile in order to show respect. You almost threw up, and you all laughed together and you thanked them for allowing you to experience their traditions with them and that is the most human and respectful thing you can do. That is part of what makes this channel so utterly fantastic.

Sonny I think had been doing this well before this conversation with Andrew, but I think he really took his story to heart and his appreciation and accepting of other peoples ways really shows.

Agreed. I am actually sad that the videos (with this tribe) are done now. I like the datoga tribe! And of course agree completely with what you said about Sonny! I think that the Africa tour series is probably (one of) the best on his channel because many of the other cultures/countries, we would be able to visit these countries easier. And food wise is easier to come across their food. Except a few other places. But this Africa series wouldn’t be easy to visit ourselves (I think?). So we aren’t really exposed to it like other countries/cultures. That is what really makes it interesting for me personally. I too have really loved this series! I hate that Sonny has to say that he doesn’t do this for shock value but to live like them. For me, I wouldn’t even doubt he did this for shock value had he never said it. But KZbin and its rules still don’t like it I think. But this broadens your horizons. To see how other people live.. which is very interesting to see and learn about.

@@Melon_Cloud it’s easy to visit a lot of African countries. West and in the East. Tanzania is in east Africa. Also not all countries have these kind of tribes. Born and raised in west Africa (2 different countries) and this is equally shocking to me! But I do love this series and love to learn about our neighbors as we don’t get taught these things.

@@titikay4real Yes, I meant visiting a tribe especially. I know at least a few African countries are relatively easy to travel to. Might also depend on where you are from and of course travel experience to be safe. But the tribes is a different story. Just visiting a tribe / experience a tiny part of the nomadic lifestyle, even if just for a day.. (though you can’t experience the nomadic lifestyle in a day, I am aware). I would personally like to thank you and your crew for taking me to a place I could never understand living the life I live today. You said during the show that life is what you are introduced to and surrounded by. Nothing is ever made more sense to me in my life than this statement you made. Different cultures different parts of the world and different surroundings and introductions to life is something we are all susceptible to at birth. I have never traveled out of the United States and I have visited a small portion of the US for limited times. I've lived most of my life on the East Coast from New Jersey to Florida Keys. I met different people from different cultures from living in international cities. Your show is taking me around the world and introduced to my eyes and ears things I could never see or understand. I've held many jobs in my life and food is one of them from being a dishwasher to a restaurant manager and a span of 30 years. The way that you show people raising their own food and literally depending on it for their lifestyle is something that is totally awesome to me. I greatly appreciate your content and your videos because it is the greatest learning experience I believe one can actually see and hear thank you again

Sonny, you and your team are the most wholesome. You're the only food reviewer that I keep watching and supporting because of how much respect and openness and kindness you have for everyone and group you share with us. Even when you don't like something, the way you relay it doesn't come off arrogant or with disdain. You're so good at what you do and how you share the unseen world with the rest of us in their authenticity.

21:16 Little quick nuanced scenes like this that is an afterthought, often can show a lot. The way she is chilling, all comfy, leaning into Sonny, with her elbow just resting on his thigh, just eating, relaxing and perfectly at ease, shows not how loving these people are, but how Sonny conveys himself to be, earning a level of trust and comfort that can only be received when you are genuinely a person that cares, doesn't judge, and openly accepting. I thought 8M Subs is crazy high, but this Channel deserves 3Xs that many Subs.

True and real Latins are people of prominent Southern European Latin Mediterranean diaspora whos origins come from Italy and Roman derived Latin Europe. And Hispanic is literally the Latin language for Spain not the native Americans they colonized such as those like you an indigenous Americans weather you or others like you acknowledged it or not. Both Hispanic & Latin/Latino culture come from Europe that is Latin Europe. & Latin Europe was Latinized by Italy hence how Latina Italy got the historical Latin name LATINA! LATINO= SOUTHERN EUROPEAN LATIN MEDITERRANEAN ORIGIN. Hispanic is the name the TRUE Latino people of Rome/Italy gave the Spaniards. People from south central America and Mexico are historically native Americans & now some Mestizos whom where just forced to learn Hispanic ways just like people in North America who where forced to learn English ways and it ends there. Being culturally UNROOTED due to brainwashed acculturation is why so many North Americans don’t know their own identity Nor even care.TRUE Latin people need representation in North America as we are misrepresented all day long in this country and it’s not ok. Culturally rooted proud People native to south Central America and Mexico who embrace their true identity feel the same way with FALSE brands like Hispanic and Latino as that is Not their origin it is the origin of their colonizers. LATINOS are SOUTHERN EUROPEAN LATINS born anywhere in the world who’s roots come from the LATIN Roman Empire of the Mediterranean Race. HENCE HOW LATINA ITALY GOT THE HISTORICAL LATIN NAME LATINA! Supporting North American Brainwashed cultural theft for “gain” and “benefit” does Not magically change this. CULTURALLY REMOVED North Americans need to learn and respect their true culture that way they can stop stealing from mine. & TRUE LATINO MEN AND WOMEN AKA SOUTHERN EUROPEANS HAVE ALWAYS BEEN MULTI RACIAL ETHNIC PEOPLE DUE TO OUR MIDDLE EASTERN, NORTH AFRICAN& BALKAN GYPSIE DNA. THIS CULTURAL RAPE EXIST BECAUSE THOSE LIKE YOU BELIEVE YOU HAVE& WILL CONTINUE TO “BENEFIT” FROM THE CULTURAL THEFT TOWARDS US TRUE LATINO MEDITERRANEANS! THIS BRAINWASHED OBSESSION WITH PUSHING AMERICAN MOSTLY NORTH AMERICAN CULTURAL THEFT TOWARDS US TRUE LATIN PEOPLE AS A FASHION TREND NEEDS TO BE EXPOSED. ITS EXHAUSTING AND DISGUSTING

this is what I find why watching Sonny's vids is so refreshing. He doesn't look down upon other cultures (might be because he has spend some time in Vietnam), he doesn't judge even though the things he saw might really be against his own personal ideal, and he's not trying to be overly friendly as he knows his place as an outsider in most of the places he's in.
