I'm a Type 5, INFJ, Autist, and Misophone, and I was trapped in retail for YEARS. I am lucky to be alive. But I actually kinda liked when customers asked me to look in the back even when I knew what they wanted wasn't there. They might as well have been saying, "Honey, you're so overwhelmed out here with all the people... why don't you take a quick breather in the back away from everyone?" I'd go stand in the stockroom and take deep, cleansing breaths, all with the customer's blessing... it was beautiful.

This was funny. Though as a Type 4 who works a robotic job, I find that the worst job for a 4 would involve that which doesn’t allow the 4 to escape into dream. So, in that sense, robotic jobs are not that bad. I actually prefer them, if I am forced to work. Repetitive detail allows me to to escape into daydream. Prob the worst job would involve the 4 to be ever present, where there could be no daydream-an air traffic controller, a cop, an ER surgeon, I imagine. A lawyer. Your husband is spot on in his response. The 4 CAN do robotic work as long as there is an opportunity for self-expression elsewhere. It doesn’t become our identity, in other words.

As a 4w5, I liked programming in school and that's why I went to the uni where I studied programming. But now I am not that satisfied being on a real job as a programmer... And I think that's because in school I could write programs however I want (there were no strict rules, any solution that works was correct + the teacher used to give freedom in which tasks I can choose). + I dreamed of making my own games and programs. But now not only I have to do strictly the task that was assigned to me, but also the way of coding is different: there are a lot of already existing technologies and principles of coding where you cannot really express yourself, you just have to do things correctly as other people decided. You even have to name variables and functions by some conventions, not however you want...

P.S. But I'm not complaining even if I'm a 4 😂 I just wanted to tell my story Actually, I am learning day by day to work on that job and to accept that there are things that need to be done that strict way and I'm also trying to give myself as much freedom of expression as possible in other aspects of life ✨

As a Type 5, I did really well as first a high school teacher, then as an elementary teacher. The variety of personalities and needs of my students balanced really well with clear-cut rules and schedules. The only drawback for the kids was, when the bell rang, that was it for me. I might take an additional 5 minutes for someone, but I wasn’t the cool teacher hanging out for an extra half hour with the students. I needed quiet, and I needed space to recharge. 99% of my interaction was during class. Since many of my students later told me how much they had enjoyed me as a teacher, I must not have been that bad ☺️

And, true to my wing, I hate really monotonous work.

I worked in retail and in hospitality as a 5 and what I brought to the job more than excellent customer service was knowing the business and products inside out and quickly training others. If someone would have come up to me with "other colours", I would help them find an outfit that fit their needs and bodytype much better than whatever they were looking for. I obsessively researched Kibbe and such in my free time while I worked for an international clothing chain on the weekends, and more often than not, customers bought what I told them to buy.

For a type 9 is a great job to be a secretary, just contrary as type 8

as a type 5 lawyer here who also spent some time doing diplomatic jobs, I don't entirely agree with the part about politicians . I think for type 5s our worst type of job is one where we must continuously give ourselves emotionally and without sincerity such as a primary school teacher or a caregiver. it's hard for us to do that. I would argue that when type 5s are at their healthiest, they're at the forefront of the societal change that they want to see. we think critically and lengthily about things we feel passionate about in order to become experts, but we aim to share those thoughts with the world as we believe that we are offering a better option. a great example of this is Stephen Hawking!
@hannahhutchison11773 жыл бұрын
I agree with that. I wonder though if politics may be draining since most of the work primarily involves people. Then again I survived retail for 8 years by mapping out pockets of time to myself. Perhaps political jobs have decent enough down time to counter balance the social demands. The expectations of the public may be considered tiring. Then again any 5 would probably need to strategize how to best avoid that pressure/drain on energy.
@evegeorgiamusic3 жыл бұрын
@@hannahhutchison1177 yes, at the end of the day it's all about strategy for us. I love conversing with clients and doing pro bono. but only when I plan pockets of time for myself (as you said). also my job is a lot of detail orientated paperwork too, so I do get a balance. we really are just creatures of schedule haha

Hey guys I'm a 4w5 and I reallllly wanna learn more about the enneagram. I have seen the Richard Rohr lecture videos and some other stuff. But still I need more information. What are the topics I have to learn more about the enneagram?( Like the wings, triads etc.,) and are there any videos that you can recommend? What are the videos from this channel that can be helpful for me? (I know there are these books too but I don't think I'll finish reading them, and that will be a waste of money) I really want to get obsessed with the enneagram XD Btw Great video! I totally relate to what you said about 4s, before I clicked this video I was like, "Anything that involves working in a mundane office (which almost everyone does) and anything that has finance, does not work for me" because these kind of jobs are just meaningless and robotic like u said, especially since many people have these kind of jobs and it doesn't feel unique to me. Great explanation!! Sorry for the reaaaallly long comment lol

This was so funny! I was laughing out loud. The 2 was especially good. The worst job I ever had was retail. I thought everything about it was beyond asinine, and, unfortunately, I'm the kind of person who has a hard time hiding how I really feel, which did not go over well with the managers or the customers. To this day, I have nightmares about having to work retail again. I'm a 6w5, so even though I really hated that job, it didn't cause me as much anxiety as the job I have now which routinely lays off employees and reorganizes every year. I feel sick every time I get organizational announcements because I never know what fresh hell is coming my way. I worry that I'll lose this job, then have to go back to retail.

My boyfriend is an 8, and he’s currently an associate at Home Depot. He’s extremely smart and hardworking, and his manager trusts him a LOT. I think they recognize that he’s competent enough to potentially be a manager. That being said, he hates his position right now. He keeps telling me that he wishes he was getting paid more - did I mention that picks up a LOT of other people’s slack? I’m finally realizing that his need to have a better paying job where he’s more “in control” is part of his personality!
