I spoke to the chief about this and since I was chief dispatcher I was elected. He told me the reason for the stink was that he was afraid that his hair would fall out, so that was the reason that he only showered once a month. I told him that he needed to use a shower cap and wash his body because he was stinking up the building. He did start showering weekly and I even brought in some shower caps for him. Unfortunately I had to deliver that baby on the way. The woman had very obviously not bathed in what was probably months, and there were signs that she did not know how to take care of her “undercarriage”. Baby was born and seemed fairly healthy, and both baby and mom were doing well as we left to take the bus back to base for a VERY deep clean that took the rest of my shift. When I arrived for my next shift, I was told that they still couldn’t get the smell all the way out of the bus.

First off, I’ll start with I’m a pipewelder by trade, so we get hot, dirty and sweaty. And have to work in close proximity to each other. Secondly, I have nearly no sense of smell due to an accident when I was young. There is one guy I’ll never forget. He has stripes on his teeth... the bottom was yellow, the middle was orange/greenish and the top was brown. His breath singed your nose. He was a welders mate/helper and didn’t have to wear overalls. So he wore a white tank top. Which his sweat turned yellow. In summer (25-33°) I could smell him while using a speedglas 9100 Adflow mask (filtered fresh air fed welding mask) Even me being able to smell him with terrible sense of smell, I honestly felt for the other guys. Wasn’t down to anything other than laziness, showers and everything you needed were provided. But he never did!

My senior year of high school, I was "adopted" by some family friends as my parents had to leave the country. This resulted in me going from being the youngest of two sisters to the older of five adopted brothers. My brothers are one point decided to have a contest to see who could go without showering the longest. I lucked out with a bad cold during this time, but it was bad enough so that the dog avoided them. I think by the 3rd month, we all hear our mother yelling for us to get into the living room. Confused, we asked what was wrong and she pointed at the floor where we could see the literal body outline of someone, in sweat, on the carpet. Our mom proceeded to yell at us, demanding to know who had done it. When no one owned up, we were all forced to lay down on the spot (she knew I wasn't guilty but fair was fair). When get to my 3rd brother, he lies down and it's a 100% fit and she tears him a new one. the others laugh right up until she yells at them that they've made the couch so gross that she's having it professionally cleaned and until they wash they aren't to touch anything in the house. It was pretty awful.

Worked with a married couple that each weighed between 350 & 400 lbs. They lived in a small house with one bathroom with a bathtub only - no shower. Not sure if either of them could fit in the tub so I don't know how or if they bathed. Apparently deodorant was a no-go also. They also did not have a washer or dryer so they would take their clothes to a laundromat, bring them home wet and hang them up in the backyard or just lay them around on top of the shrubbery or porch railings. This was cool in the summertime but in the winter, the clothes would not dry well so they would bring them in and lay them around and they would sour before they dried. So it was the wet dog, sour clothes and horrendous body odor mixture. You could smell them before they came into the room and it lingered long after they left. We went through can after can of air freshener. At least in the summer, they smelled somewhat better because they could get in the community swimming pool. I personally would run when I saw them coming if I could without being obvious. I felt so sorry for their two children.

I went to a tech school college and we were told that if you were not showering, you would be asked to shower and penalty time would be added. (Late for 5 minutes? 5 minutes of penalty. 10 hours= expelled from the program.) Despite this, there were still smelly kids. One kid announced while we were hanging out: "I haven't showered since I've been here." "How long have you been here?" "3 months." One kid smelled really bad. He was supposed to be my roommate but I got permission to get a new room. My guardian even thought he stank. So yeah, I met some bad hygiene in college. I can smell it just writing about it.

the first one really reminds me of my grandmother; we have really fcked genetics when it comes to mental issues. the way she just gave up one day, stopped taking care of herself or getting up out of her chair-it just happened one day. it was like she had already been through so much that she went into overdrive and couldn’t handle the most basic things. it’s heartbreaking and terrifying all at the same time because i know i can get like that myself sometimes, but i worry one day the same will happen to me and i’ll never get up again.

This is what happens when parents don't ever teach or say anything about hygiene to their kids and think they'll just figure it out themselves. Like it's a basic thing you would think is common sense but it's not if you were never told to shower and brush your teeth everyday. They don't see a problem with it because nobody said anything to them as kids and if you say something as adults they're too stuck in their ways.

I took public transit years ago and was on the bus home. A few stops away from mine, a middle-aged woman got on the bus. Her clothes had layer upon layer of brown-tinted urine stains, like water stains on an old ceiling, and she reeked of old urine. The strong ammonia smell was eye-watering. She apologized to the bus driver upon boarding and sat up front. I was in the middle of the bus but had to move all the way back (luckily the bus was otherwise empty), but I still had to hold my breath for the two or three remaining stops I had to go, because the smell was so overpowering that my airways felt like they were burning when I tried to breathe. The bus driver shouldn't have let her on, really, for health and safety reasons. I felt bad for her, it seems as though she needed an adult welfare check, but I had no idea where she lived so I couldn't call anyone for her.

I had a roommate when I was in my early twenties, who would refuse to bathe or wash her clothes. She would leave grease stains wherever she sat, and anywhere she had been would stink for hours after she left. She had had a bedbug infestation in her old apartment, didn’t tell anyone and moved her infested possessions in and my apartment also got an infestation. She admitted to us they had come from her, and refused to get rid of her things, put them in storage or pay to get the bedbugs she brought removed. She grew passive aggressive towards us, as she refused to work or contribute to anything and we were getting into arguments frequently, and would defecate in the toilet and not flush, letting it stink up the apartment while we were at work. She would then claim she had flushed the toilet. She wouldn’t wash her hands after using the toilet, or buy feminine hygiene products. She would wipe her blood stained hands on our bathroom towels. I started suffering from mental health issues and had two nervous breakdowns because of her. I left that apartment with my boyfriend, turning it over to her, and we had to lose all our things to prevent bringing the bedbugs to our new place. Our former roommate still thinks she is a good person and a victim of our “bullying”. F you, Kristi!

I spent 15 years working with adults with developmental disabilities, some of them had horrible hygiene for one reason or another (never bathing, not knowing how to wipe properly after using the bathroom, medical issues). It was kind of sad. Imagine you have a 6 year old child, but you don’t bother making sure they bathe properly or brush their teeth. That’s what it was like, except these were adults with the mental capacity of a 6 year old. One guy in particular spent half the time living with his mom, the other half with his dad. He was in his 30s, he smelled horrible. A few times he had to be sent home from the program because his odor was so bad. We had to get adult protective services involved, it was clear he wasn’t getting the care he needed at home. There were a few other similar cases like this. It was pretty sad

I used to have a colleague at FedEx who shadowed me while I loaded larger packages, my specialty. He did a good job and had no unpleasant odor or signs of dirtiness. However, after a few weeks, he began neglecting personal hygiene, resulting in noticeable armpit odor from a distance of 3 feet. Eventually, the situation worsened, and his putrid smell permeated the warehouse, becoming noticeable from 25 feet away. One of my colleagues must have informed a manager about the situation, leading to my smelly coworker using baby wipes to freshen up. While the smell improved, up close, there was a noticeable mix of the original odor and a hint of baby wipes.

One of my roommates bathes maybe twice a month. When he does shower he 'washes' with apple cider vinegar because 'most hygiene products gives him a rash' and he just refuses to look farther into it. He basically lives on the main room couch where the smell of his ass is now permanently present. His cat has a kidney stone problem which causes him to not want to pee in the litter box, so he does it on rommies clothes, which he just lets happen and leaves them in piles in his room. He keeps his guinea pig out in the lower living space and he just doesn't do anything with it but feed. We have to ask him to clean the poor things pen when we start to smell it through the rest of the house. Talking to him about it is near impossible because god forbid anyone call him out on his shit without him pitching a fit. I'm lucky in that my sense of smell died off a few years ago. My other roommates, not so lucky.

If I were you I'd try to tell him to just shower more often and to only let his cat pee on his dirty clothes so at least the cat pee would be washed off and he'd shower more even if it's not soapy, but IDK if that's possible. Also poor guinea pigs, I'd maybe get them a triangular litter box for whatever corner of their cage they poop in most and dump it in the trash every few days. Sorry you have to deal with such an unhygienic roommate.

Unfortunately, this is my grandparents. My uncle is 32 and still lives with them. They don’t shower. This has resulted in them not only smelling like BO and rotten flesh, but my grandpa is diabetic and was recently hospitalized for a UTI that turned into sepsis. I hope these recent hospitalizations are enough to wake them up because they won’t listen to reason.

You could smell the guy from more than 40ft away, with a lovely combination of port-a-potty deodorizer and hot dumpster. And no matter how many times we told him that wasn't okay, he would. not. get. that. fixed! It ended with him assaulting my boss and us banning him from the premises.

I didn't touch my hair for months and when I was finally able to gather myself together I had to cut it because it was so tangled. I used to work at Wal-Mart, and there was this mother and son who used to come in. Most originally thought they were a couple, but it was figured out that they were mother and son. Anyways, they lived in this house that should be condemed(probably is). The roof is caving in, and in one section it's a gaping hole with a tarp over top. Apparently they sleep some nights in the car. These two smelled horrible! It was death walking by. No one wanted to ring them out, and if you got unlucky you were holding your breath, or running to the toilet after. It was not fun. I'm not sure if they knew they smelled so bad or what, but not something I ever want to deal with again. Costumers at times would complain asking if "we could kick them out?". We could not sadly. I no longer work at that walmart, so thankfully I dont have to see them again.

One of my roomates who lives next to me in the upstairs hallway constantly leaves his room to spit and cough in the sink without locking the door or washing his hands. He leaves the bathroom floor completely wet and spits all over the mirror, as well as never taking out the trash in communal areas and leaving it to overflow completely. Every time someone else is forced to clean up after his mess because he does not care about anyone but himself. I can no longer use the downstairs toilet because it is a thing of nightmares, looking as if someone had severe diarrhea caused by food poisoning 10 years ago and someone left it to rot ; my room mate has also taken to using this room as his smoking room because the room has a window which he has to kneel on the toilet to smoke out of. I know this because I hear him doing it whenever I leave the house. The worst thing this guy does is take discared tissues in the trash, use them to wipe his ass, and then throw them back in the trash. I am trying to have him evicted because I recently discovered he stole my debit card out of the mail. Not to mention the fact I've caught the flu over 3 times in the past 8 months ever since I moved in here ; every single time I caught the flu from this guy because I would hear him cough, sneeze, hack and blow his nose several days before I would become sick. I have had to resort to keeping my kitchenware in my bedroom to prevent him from using my things and doing a half cocked job at cleaning them after use. The worst part is the smell of feces coming from his bedroom only a few metres away from mine. At first, I tried to be compassionate towards him, asking him to please keep the bathroom floor dry, to not smoke in the toilet, and to also clean the stove top after he has finished cooking, though, he never listens. I dislike living here and am looking for a new place to live for other reasons, so this will be over soon. He even slams his door whenever he leaves his bedroom to smoke on the toilet day or night. One of my other room mates has chronic back pain and can barely walk, yet is constantly clean and considerate of other people around him. All it takes is one inconsiderate room mate to ruin and entire living situation for everyone else. Now this other room mate with back problems has to use the upstairs toilet because the downstairs toilet is always occupied by this guy who decides to smoke in there. Me and my annoying roomate are the only people on the top floor, so he constantly marches down the stairs to smoke in the toilet and irritates my other 2 roomates in the process. I have never met someone so disgusting in attitude as well as character. I didn't even bother confronting him about my stolen debit card because it wasn't even activated and he wasn't able to use my card to buy anything despite trying. There's no point to confronting my room mate personally about the theft so I have just left it to the authorities. I won't waste my time arguing with that idiot. Im so sick of him.

Then there was a coworker who didn't shower or wear deodorant, but management put an end to that. And if that wasn't bad enough, he was seen picking his nose and eating it. There were a couple customers, one was a lady who had that stink people get when they sit in chairs for too long and the other was a guy who had some killer body odor. What made that one worse was the fact that he kept getting closer when I would back away. At my current job, we have a customer who smells like the combination of feet, an old carpet, and urine. But she hasn't stopped by recently.

Well I decided to use the washroom and when I turned on the light I was absolutely shocked at what I saw. Shit everywhere! All over the toilet seat and back of the toilet, in the tub and on the walls. And it wasn't something that had just happened recently and the parents just didn't get to it yet. No, you can tell it was all caked on like it had been there for a while. The sad thing was there were little kids living in that house and clearly they were being neglected.
