Traumatic events will trick you everytime. I was in a car wreck where someone ran a red light. I found out later in the day that the other driver and their passenger were claiming I was the one that ran the red light. At first, I knew I didn't do it, but then over the next few hours, I started wondering whether I was just misremembering what happened and it was me. Fortunately there was a witness that spoke up a few days later.

My memory is pretty blank between standing up and being sat down in a different room after I had cooled down a bit. You hear a lot of Christians claiming that the apostles readiness to die for their belief in a resurrected Christ, but in fact only the deaths of two of them are mentioned in the bible. Judas either hung himself, of fell in a field and his guts burst out and Peter was crucified in Rome. All other accounts of the apostles being martyred are much later apocryphal writings. Peter's crucifixion (if it actually happened) has been attributed to Nero wanting to blame the Christians for the great fire of Rome in 64 CE, not really a martyr, but Nero's scapegoat.

As children, they also seem to frequently have grown up in a lukewarm Christian family. I'd imagine, for a few years, in their teens, they just didn't go to church. Then, later, they date someone who is devout, or befriend a devout Christian, and fall for the garbage apologetics that they all seem to be able to spew. That's not really atheist, it's just being a lapsed Christian. They still grew up within the belief system. And they never rejected it for good reason. It's a damned stupid claim to start these conversations like that. I roll my eyes every time.

Lol if the preacher says it happened then that happened. There can be absolutely no other way because those words those words are power. They are the power of God speaking through the pastor hahah

I'm getting tired of Christian theists going to evolution and creation all the time. Frankly, they demonstrate that they do not understand the science behind evolution and Genesis is not a basis for understanding the origins of the universe. But, leaving that aside, the issue for me is more fundamental than that, and it is one from anthropology. We know that modern humans have been around for approximately 200,000 years. The Australian aboriginals alone, their culture is known to be at least 60,000 years old. Yet we are told that we are created by this one true God, who somehow did not start to be worshipped until 4,000 years ago. If he created us, where was he for the preceding ~196,000 years? And if he created all mankind, why was he only worshipped in the Middle East and not the subcontinent, the Far East, the Americas, Australia, Europe or Africa? If we were created by God, why did we go and create all those other gods? Anthropology sits the claims of holy books on their arse. Theists need to answer that before they can start embarrassing themselves over their lack of understanding of other branches of science.
