Very true. We obviously don't know the specifics of this callers life and experiences. But it does sound like they perhaps have some sort of cognitive decline, and my experiences you will find many people just like him inside churches, too. Cognizant enough to understand what you're saying, not cognizant enough to be able to think about, whether or not what they believe is actually true in reality.

And he IS trying to help others, but in his way of thinking and his belief only. It would be good for him to be educated to recognize a much wider and diverse world but sadly religions especially those exclusive ones can never be the way.

Maybe try to remove the tax shelter status. Do something about those priests being shuffled around. If anything, it'd be more of a rationalization to psych-hold someone. But freedom of religion, and all that. I'd rather they not vote, either. But I wouldn't be comfortable with any legal measures doing such. Ik it's a joke, but it still feels like a bad take.

The more and more I hear calls like this, the more and more amazed I am with the sheer power of mind control/ psychological control religious beliefs have on people, and how it warps/ skews their thinking of many other things. Staggers me every time. Also, equally amazing, is how they happily dismiss every other religious belief out of hand and you can tell they are lying that they know anything about competing religions (by regularly getting facts about them wrong), and not having a problem with facing THEIR flavours of "Hell" or "eternal torment" for not believing in them! So it really sounds like a comfort blanket. What's worse is that John, like others, are in a false state of thinking that their beliefs/ religion should be exempted from questioning or challenge!

You can HEAR the defense-measures kicking in every time he tries to think about what the hosts are saying. He gets halfway through listening to their words and suddenly starts spouting a bunch of emotionally charged catch-phrases to try to scare them, because they scare him. At its root, christianity is all about fear. And nothing scares them more than people who aren't afraid of their boogeyman.

@@myprophet1 Guilt, yeah, catholics are big on guilt, but there's always the undercurrent of fear. Fear of hell, fear of judgement, fear of losing community, fear of outsiders, fear of themselves, fear of sex. Fear is their primary motivator.

I need to write a book for myself that tells everyone they should give me ALL the Sour Skittles or they will go to my basement dungeon. Better yet, I need someone who already likes me to write this book then go around saying I wrote it myself!
