I just recently moved to Pennsylvania and got hired by a fence company and they made me feel the same way you do looking at this roof. They don’t use a string to set posts, no string to see the flow of the top rail. On wood fences they do 6 inches over the top rail leaving a huge gap at the bottom. Their rips are terrible and sometimes too small. My boss calls it the wow factor. To us it looks like shit but the customers most of the time don’t know the difference and think the fence looks great.

4:57 Actually, a lot of carpenters leave loose seals on the downhill, be it vent boots or windows, etc. If decades down the road as things deteriorate, there won't be a silicone dam holding in moisture or minor leaks to exacerbate any future issues. Granted, where I live hardly anyone has a shallow walkable roof, so snow may build up and force its way into a boot at that low angle. Even with a low pitch I was impressed that shingle carpet was sticking down well enough without nails that he didn't slide right off the roof while walking around.
@skipads51413 жыл бұрын
Also, at some point somebody in the neighborhood or driving by must've noticed there was no noise from nails or visually seen guys just throwing them up there. As a homeowner in the uk, singles are just something we don’t use over here. We mainly use concrete or slate tiles for our roofs, I believe we can get 50-100 years of life out of them. How long do singles typically last ? And what’s the average cost of one ? I’m just curious why we don’t use them in the uk if anyone can ahead some light ?

I'm an amateur when it comes to roofs. I've done a bit, but usually assisting as dumb muscle. But in the few instances that I actually did something on my own, I opted for going to the extreme to make sure it stays on. I got a call from someone where I build a garden shed a few years ago, they wanted to put solar panels on it, and they guy from the panels couldn't get the shingles off. Obviously he couldnt, after I asked if they ever wanted to put solar panels on, and they said "no", I glued them on with XTac before I nailed them into place.

My Uncle few years ago had me come over with My Friend who does do roofs and look at his Roof after he had a company Put new one on. As Soon as We got there, Friend was like, That Does Not Look Right at all. All this as we are going up the driveway. So Friend went up on Roof and started looking around. Well The Company Did Not use a Single Nail(Or Screws) They used Silicon Caulk.(Guessing for it to last at least the 1 year warranty they gave.) The Ridge Cap was similar to what you had Just Shingles that were cut and Caulked down. Friend called someone and within a hour had County building inspector over to take a Look. in the End, Uncle took the company to Court, Friend and the Building inspector were there to give a report and Uncle was able to get all of his Money back and bit More. FYI this wasnt the Lowest Bid. He actually went with the One that was the 2nd to highest bid too. He had 5 Bids.
