As an Irish person myself, yes this show is dreadfully unfunny, its beaten out by Father Ted and Killnascully, I will say, the movie though is much funnier than the show

I remember I used to watch Mrs Brown’s Boys when I was much younger, like only nine or ten, maybe even younger like eight, somewhere around 2013/14, and I could remember finding it hilarious and would watch it often on DVD, but looking back it was more likely it was because of all the swearing, which to a child is obviously funny. Watching it nowadays it’s about as funny as being beaten repeatedly with a baseball bat.

What exactly is the age demographic of Mrs. Brown's Boys these days? The opening theme of the Christmas Specials seem to play off the show as "wholesome" for the general audience. It sounds way too heartwarming for a live studio show centred on a very vulgar character. It's almost like a satirised TV show you'd see in the world of RoboCop, but turns out to be an *actual* show.

I've watched a DVD of the original filmed versions of Mrs Browns Boys (God help me). It's literally the plot and many of the same jokes from the first 1 or 2 series of the BBC sitcom but shot on proper sets and locations. There's also no laugh track or 4th wall breaking making it feel weirdly gritty and depressing.

Absolutely D'Marmite of Irish Comedy i've ever seen. Father Ted and Podge and Rodge (if anyone knew who these 2 really are) is my suggestion for someone who is an hardcore (and true) Irish comedy fan.

I'm suprised to see you cover this but not suprised none of you liked it! I've always founds this sitcom terrible and overrated. A funny story when I was in college in 2011, Mrs Brown's Boys was new (the BBC version, didn't know about older ones). Others on my college course loved it and I found it shit. But at that same time, there was a show with David Jason called The Royal Bodyguard that almost everyone hated, yet I enjoyed it much more than Mrs Brown. Humour is subjective like you say, I've never found Family Guy a good show. Early Simpsons was much stronger due to the wholesome moments and more intelligent jokes. It's definitely not a great sitcom compared to Only Fools, Steptoe, Porridge, Dad's Army etc. We had cheesy sitcoms back in the day like On the Buses, but we had so many great ones too. I can't think of any modern sitcom that's actual good quality Tbf, I think Not Going Out was much better than Mrs Brown's Boys. The first few seasons are quite good, but it outstayed it's welcome years ago.

I'm ashamed to have considered myself a fan of this when I was a teenager, to the point I had all the DVDs (yes, including the movie). Needless to say, after rewatching it back in January this year, I realized it was kinda shit, and rewatching the movie was the straw that broke the camel's back and I was like "Right, all the Mrs Brown's DVDs are goin' tonight"

Some Irish bloke in a wig saying, 'feck', in every other sentence doesn't constitute comedy. In fact, it gets rather tiresome after about 3-4 minutes. Which is about how long I lasted when I saw part of one episode. How this gets a Christmas special every single year is totally beyond comprehension. I can only assume he's either got something on the BBC, or he's part of what's considered the, 'diversity and inclusion', initiative introduced by them in 2016, and he fills part of their quota system.
