Thinking of getting a FZ1N as a first bike, i have alot of motorcross and karting experience and i`ve ridden some fast bikes before so i know what it means to have 150 bph under your seat. Would you recommend it as a first bike? I`m planning of using it as a daily commute bike to work and to tour some miles in the weekends with the occasional long trip over the freeway. I`m really up the fence about picking the naked version or the faired one since i don`t want to get sick of the wind blasting my body on the highway, but it just looks so much better as a naked bike :)
@AndyManCam3 жыл бұрын
Yeah definitely. The long 1st gear and relatively soft torque curve will be gentle on you, but the beans are all there up top when you’re ready to go looking for them! I‘m a big naked fan but i don’t do much motorway miles or commute. I just love the clean looks and the quiet Air!

Hey Andy, Great video, fantastic footage and audio👍🏍🎥🎙. I’ve gotta say that the system used to control the riding was atrocious. Stay behind an instructor, slower riders out at the same time, decibel readings 🤔. You’ve gotta come out to Australia and ride here. In NSW the track days here are set up Newcomers, Moderate, Intermediate and Fast. You go out in your designated group and simply go as fast as you can. No passing into corners and watch for yellow flags. Come in when you see the 🏁. They’re awesome. At least it dried up and you had no worries with track conditions. Cheers.
@AndyManCam4 жыл бұрын
Thanks Peter! Yeah at least it wasn’t a total loss! 😉 I agree that the system just didn’t work. My theory also is that by forbidding overtaking in the novice sessions, people don’t know how to do it safely at high speed in the faster free sessions. Oh well. I guess I’ll just have to come down there and try yours! 😜

What a strange format, I done a couple of trackdays last year at my home circuit Knockhill in Scotland. It was an open pitlane so you could have as many laps as you wanted over the day, you didnt have to follow any instructor or anything. Out of interest Andy, what tyre pressures were you running once it dried out? I have Metzeler Z8's and the local club racer advised 32psi front & 30psi rear, felt great to me,
@AndyManCam4 жыл бұрын
Very strange. Open pitlane would be awesome!! I actually had the standard street pressures as i knew that we wouldn’t be going full pelt on the straights. So 36/42.

Is the FZ1 in this video in stock condition besides the exhaust or are there any more substantial engine mods installed? I was wondering since I have a quite a bit tuned up -09 FZ1-S, which pushes 147hp / 102Nm from the rear wheel, that bike is a screamer out of corners. Stupid amounts of low end torque and at higher RPM's the acceleration is pretty much on par with the proper sport bikes of the day.

Thankfully, we still did Charly! But yes I agree, the format was a bit weird. It would work, if the skill levels were better organised and a few less riders on Track. But as soon as one or two people were too slow, the whole session suffered. Mainly because of having to keep in our groups. Though on the other side of the coin, the free sessions were the ones that had all of the accidents and once again, spoiled it for everyone else! I complained and was told that it's always been like that and that it's my problem, not theirs. 😂

I totally agree. Yamaha nailed the platform completely! Except for that dodgy throttle response, it's a pretty much perfect bike.

Cool video, gotta work on that back tire though;)
@AndyManCam3 жыл бұрын
Thanks Kyle. The pegs were on the floor mate! No more working to be done! TBH it'S pretty standard for the 190/55 profiles not to get to the edge. 😝 Plus it's not like I was the slowest on the track that day!!
@kylena75333 жыл бұрын
@@AndyManCam strange, I have an fz1s with stock pegs and im able to lean the bike over and get the entire tire scrubbed. I have 0 strips on my rear tire and have never scrapped. I do know yoy have lowered pegs though.
@AndyManCam3 жыл бұрын
I'll bet that you have the 'standard' 190/50 profile rear. The less sharp profile makes it easier to get to the edge than with a more crowned 190/55. Also sportier rubber tends to be easier to get to the edge of than sports touring boots. I got to the edge of the Bridgestons S21's my CB1000R came with in the first gentle weekend. But try as I might, I can't reach the edges of the Avon Spirit ST's.

Absolutely terrifying. The bloke on the FZ1 made you a mobile chicane. Even a Yaris sped by. I have seen postie bikes go faster.
@AndyManCam4 жыл бұрын
Haha! Yeah, the Yaris bothered me the most! Still, no-one died, so we did that right! No point smashing it around at full pelt on the first time. Next time we'll be quicker.

Thanks Lars! it was! I'd recommend a session on track, you can really see what your bike is capable of! And it doesn't have to be about top speed. YOu can just use all of the road and get those technical sections perfect, without anybody coming the other way!! Plus the surface was beautiful.

The FZ1 looks every bit as capable as the bikes you've been testing recently. Can't see why you'd chop it in. Is the pilot making the KTM & Duke look bad or the FZ good 🤔
@AndyManCam4 жыл бұрын
Hard to say Ian! I think the bike is certainly just an extremely good machine for its age and cost. The fuelling, despite my best efforts, is still a let down though. Kills me a bit when I come on to the throttle way too late, because I’m trying to be SO gentle with the transition from off to on. ECU flashing isn’t an option for me, so bit lost for how to make this bike truly perfect.

Looks like you both had fun despite the rubbish management of the event. Stupid having such a huge variance of abilities on the track at one time. More about them making money than giving you the maximum track time. I hope you voiced your complaints.

As a regular track day rider in the UK.... I understand your pain but it’s the organisation that’s at fault there and not the riders running at a slower pace than you... Sure it was a heat of the moment comment however 👍👍
