With French cars, you need to choose a diesel engine. They have bad petrol engines but good reputation for diesel, that's why their diesel engines are used even by some other manufactures. For example, in Europe Peugeot 3008 with 2.0 hdi engine is a good choice. This well know old-school engine, with 180hp and low mpg.

But the first gen diesels were solid as a rock bar the odd oil leak. Parts cost? Have you tried looking up Mazda and Toyota parts costs??? Renault are the odd one out in your criticism of parts availability, considering they’re the same as Nissan, and where one is, you’ll find the other not far away. We had 3 peugeots for the last 20 years, each car around 6+years, no major issues AT ALL with none of those cars. On 1.5hdi Diesel we had to replace adblue pump, which is a problem in each and every diesel car. I guess it comes down to the same old sayting "As is the driver, so is the car". We absolutely know about the depreciation but the engine is the same one shared with the Nissan Qashqai and it's built in South Korea. It's been brilliant in the 12 months we've owned it. Rock solid build quality (so far). 4 more years of warranty and then we might be in trouble but it's great owning something even slightly interesting rather than going with the crowd. At least we know we'll get 5 years of decent motoring with that warranty.

Ok, in Aussieland not sure how many you have or cost of parts/labour etc. But french make one of the most reliable cars on the road (at least where it matters - engine, suspension). But there are caveats - avoid petrols, avoid automatic (some ar OK), and just check what engine you will get. But 1.6 HDI that comes in everything or Renault 1.5 dCI that comes in just about anything, they are bulletproof engines. There are few diesels to avoid, but if you do, rest are superb. Here in the Philippines there's loads of Chinese vehicles and their resale value is good, as is their reliability. I never thought I'd buy one, but after hearing friends raving about there's, I bought a 2022 Ford Territory Crossover, which is a Ford model made in China. I checked into it before I bought it because I wanted to make sure I could get parts if things kick off with the PRC over Taiwan. Ford has two assembly plants outside China for these, and a very large parts warehouse in Thailand, so I'm not worried about support for it. I'm pretty surprised at the build quality, and the features of this vehicle for the price. Heated and cooled seats, Napa leather, 360 camera, panoramic sunroof, adaptive cruise control etc. I bought it used from a guy who had to return overseas for work, so it was barely run in, and still with a factory warranty and free services. It was a lot cheaper, and much better equipped than the Korean or Japanese equivalents. So far, so good. Nothing has gone wrong and I've put over 20k on it, on really bad roads. No squeaks or rattles. I'll hang on to it for a couple of years and then move on to something else, but as an experimental purchase, it's been surprisingly good. Traditional manufacturers better lift their game. The Chinese lead the world in drone tech, like DJI, and so many things come from China these days, they've pretty much got the manufacturing thing down pat. They're going to master car manufacturering soon too.

Love these comparative videos these are the best! Common themes for the uninformed - avoid at all cost CVTs full stop - they should be outlawed. As for diesels they can be great but cost;y to maintain. Being someone who always until 20 years ago worked on cars myself - buy a petrol normally aspirated non-turbo change the plugs, oil, and filters, every year even fuel filter and you will rarely go wrong. Almost 50 years of driving and car ownership on 3 continents...these guys talk sense, so refreshing in the 21st C.

A lot of hard truths here guys! I do want to throw a couple opinions / corrections in: 1. The French thing, mostly true. Peugeot did do a few Mitsubishis that were just restyled. Really nothing wrong with those. Mostly just better (some worse) looking Mitsubishis. 2. The Dodge Journey *was* hot garbage when it came out. After the 2012 update it is a great thing. The freemont *is* the same, but many / most have the woeful 2.4 4 pot. The V6 3.6 freemont / journey is a surprising package (also they’re 7 seaters and should go in that category). Actually a very underrated car. DO NOT buy the earlier ones. Absolute trash.

There is an interesting article in a UK Automotive magazine called Auto Express where the editor Mike Rutherford discussess the incoming invasion of Chinese cars and how the Chinese brand MG is already outselling Jaguar/Land Rover combined in the UK. Here in the UK a lot of Brits have taken to MG very quickly, although I think many Brits still think MG is British as most people do not have a clue of Chinese ownership. In my opinion Jaguar Land Rover are beautiful vehicles, a delight to drive, look at and sit in, but an ownership nightmare out of warranty. I have heard of so many hard working people buying and rewarding themselves with JLR vehicles usually second hand with their hard earned savings and ending up with a maintenance nightmare riddled with faults and failures. It is no wonder any Brit who chooses vehicles objectively with their head rather than their heart go for the cheaper to buy run and own MG, Toyota or even French vehicles rather than the home built unreliable wallet melting heartbreak that is JLR. I also know that many people have owned JLR products with very little issues, UK warranty stats paint a very different picture though so I have no sympathy for JLR when the Chinese invasion takes them to the cleaners. In this day and age JLR have no excuse for such poor reliability and charging customers such a huge premium over better built more reliable vehicles, even ones from China. VW group are no better and clearly living of their past reputation. I also know that JLR is owned by the Indian Tata group, but the vehicles are still designed and built in the UK.

Also sounds as if with the bad wrap on the 2014-2018 Subaru forester you guys were more or less looking to fill in the last 30 secs of your video here and you just happened to pluck that Gen of the forester out to use on this episode. That’s pretty lazy journalism and the problem is, your insight into that generation of foresters just because of the CVT issues, puts a bad rep on all Subi Foresters. There’s still an entire 5 years (a whole generation) of that vehicle between 2019 - 2023 which are now used which potentially don’t experience this fault.

Our 2019 Forester is our third - all CVT (2012, then 2014). We've not had any issues with any of them, however, partly due to "CVT anxiety" we've never kept one beyond 150,000km (2019 is just ticking over 110,000km now, so that's a decision to come in a couple of years). As a rule, I hate all CVTs, but the missus has to drive an auto and it's her car not mine. That said, I can say each gen CVT has felt noticeably better than the one before. I just wish Subaru would follow Mazda's lead and keep a conventional auto trans.

I personally never understand why people would buy small SUVs. They can't do anything that a normal car can't do. If you want space, a wagon actually provide more space and has lower centre of gravity thus handles much better and is much safer. You can get a car, a people mover or a big 4wd. Small SUVs, I can only think of a few special occasions they may perform better, one of which is speed camera car.

I would stay away from any Hyundai/Kia car with the NA petrol 2.4 litre 4 cylinder engine. They have many issues I believe.

My parents had a Sonata they put over 300k on that without issues, then bought a Tucson, and put about 180k on that, before they ended up not driving anymore due to age. Nothing wrong with either of them except the digital clock started flickering on the Sonata before they traded it in. I've got lots of friends and family with Kias and Hyundais, not one has had an engine fail. My wife had a 2015 Kia Forte she just sold. Nothing wrong with that either, and it's got over 260k on it. @TheRealCatof

From a mechanical perspective there is nothing wrong with a 2.0 petrol. I own one and can confirm it's very fun with the manual (albeit won't win any traffic light races)😂

Whats the issue of 2.0 FWD?
@jnthepassenger3479 ай бұрын
Mine's a 2.0 AWD and reliability wise, it's fine. Just slow as shit. If I go for another CX5 I'll get the 2.5L but reliability wise, my 2.0 has done 215,000km and has been fine just servicing and the odd bit and piece that fails with age and mileage. I trust it to last me a very long time.

Great job on the audio and mic placement. I'd say give whoever is behind it a raise but that could be fiscally irresponsible and cause resentment amongst the staff.

That first French part was just like "doing the kind thing" to a dog. Then deleted Nissan or VW-related, but 'beta-testing for China' sounded fun! Jeep wins imo. It fuses the French bit with US quality & Stellantis - how could that go wrong? Must be Range Rover's turn soon.

Those are wagons, though. Although I will say The outback is a one of a kind. I don't think there is any other wagon with the same ride height, which would make for the perfect honorable mention for the video.
