Love this car in that green colour. Even got the lego set 😅 the amount I have seen with single daytime running lights out are alarming when your paying for a defender
@therightcar
@therightcar Жыл бұрын
Totally agree - the green is awesome. But yes, you're right - the issues with DRLs (among other, apparently significantly more serious concerns) is a bit of a doozy.

Interesting that every review of a JLR product attracts reliability comparisons with Toyotas and not German competitors which also have reliability issues.

Great review Matt! Interestingly, 3 of my friends own Land Rover(2 vellars and 1 evoque), they all in love with their cars with zero issue! This makes me want to get a defender too. So do u reckon the reliability issues everyone is mentioning are more Range Rover and defender related? Thank you!❤
@therightcar
@therightcar Жыл бұрын
Thanks Yan! Appreciate your comment. Honestly I don’t know what the real-world reliability is going to be like. But having said that, I had two friends but identical Discovery Sports a few years back - one had zero issues and sold it after 80,000km, the other took his back after 5000km because of dozens of problems. I don’t think you can narrow it down - I think the company has bigger issues that spread across multiple model ranges - but it’s still a luck of the draw thing!!

The reliability of JLR product has improved heaps in recent years. A lot of talk about reliability issues, is a carry over from a long, long time ago, and is often comments by people with no actual hands on experience with the brand. A lot of comments about reliability issues are hugely inaccurate, and based on incorrect information.

@@therightcarIf these Disco Sport had the Ingenium Diesel motor, ( which was available in Australia from late 2016 ) the DPF can be problematic if u only do short metropolitan driving ( which is not ideal for any diesel motor ) And Timing Chains are sadly problematic with this particular motor, due to various issues… Hugely important to change engine oil and filter every 10,000 kms with this motor. The original service interval of 2 yrs / 34,000 kms was wildly optimistic, and led to problems, that should not have occurred, and would not have occurred if LR opted for much more sensible service intervals, such as every 12 months / max 15,000 kms

Given the reported reliability issues and the court rulings against JRA after customers needed to resort to court to enforce their rights, surely you cannot seriously recommend that vehicle?

Some people will still find that it's the right car for their needs. Would I spend $250K of my own money on one? No. I don't have that kind of disposable income. But there are LOTS of people who buy what they like because they can afford it, and if they want something that has known issues like this, that's their prerogative.

Nice looking vehicle, but probably not really overly suited to heavy off reading due to it being equipped with a Petrol Particulate Filter. The PPF is susceptible to damage If it gets too wet. Apparently it's supposedly Over $8k + for a singl e unit & a heck of a lot more for it on a dual exhaust.
@therightcar
@therightcar Жыл бұрын
Unfortunately, petrol particulate Joey filters are going to become more and more common across multiple model ranges, and I’ve heard similar stories on much more affordable cars in terms of repair costs.
@Coastmac2001
@Coastmac2001 Жыл бұрын
@@therightcarso far over 50 different vehicles from various brands here are PPF equipped. It shouldn't be an issue if you don't use 91 ULP which will destroy the filter . In a vehicle like the Landy or any other 4WD/AWD that anyone is intending to take off road, Deep water crossings need to be avoided as this can or likely will destroy a PPF sending the vehicle into Limp mode. I heard of this being done in both the US & UK where testers took the vehicles thru their recommended wading depth only for the vehicles to end up dying not long after. Both went into Limp mode with no one aware of the cause. Both were towed & it apparently took several days to diagnose that water was the culprit. DPF's just don't appear to suffer the same fate and appear far less susceptible to damage. Replacement DPF's are a fraction of the cost of a PPF .
@ckaparos
@ckaparos Жыл бұрын
@@Coastmac2001 Landrover have designed the Defender V8 to handle wading of 90cm like all Defenders, the PPF wont get damaged if you wade through water in this car.
@Coastmac2001
@Coastmac2001 Жыл бұрын
@@ckaparos , The damage occurred in some of the first models being tested in the UK & the US prior to going on sale globally . It appears that the 2 particular journos involved took the vehicles in deeper than what they should have . The vehicles suffered serious damage as a result. So possibly from that LR/RR may have done a redesign of any affected components to ensure that they are fully protected from a full dunking
@ckaparos
@ckaparos Жыл бұрын
@@Coastmac2001 Well when I spoke to the CEO of JLRA and head of engineering they told me it can wade now with no potential to damage the PPF so i think they have found a resolution to the issue.

@therightcar

The G 63 is an amazing piece of engineering, and certainly going to be more of a future collectible than a Defender. If I was driving it every day, and I wasn’t worried about potential ownership hiccups, then I would say the Defender would be my choice. But seriously, all the rumours and the reports of evidence of significant ownership issues with current Land Rover product is enough to make me think that maybe it would be a better choice to live with a G!
