Great followup on the last video! It looks like PBO and memory tuning can make a decent difference!

I blew up my first computer years ago when playing with overclocking CPUs and RAM so I am a little gun shy now in touching anything but great to see the potential the 9800x3d has.

Thank you for the update! In my experience, I find there are some hiccups when trying to OC anything or RAM tune beyond XMP. I now just turn on existing performance preset if they are available. I’m taking the lazy route… So I have more time for SC.

Nicely done. Totally agree, most prep don’t know the BIOS exists, much less RAM speed and so on. Memory speed is important, but factor in other aspects of the platform, ring bus bus ( infinity clock match) , making sure NVMe is not lane split with PCIe card, it’s all about balance.

I'll be trying similar tuning but with 96GB (48x2) of CL-30 DDR5-6000 & 4070 Ti Super (paired with a 9800x3d). Did you see how differently your tuning performed on 1440p?
@tenpoundfortytwo27 күн бұрын
Yeah you should still be CPU bottlenecked at 1440p with the 4070ti super! I'd give it a go!

I did an upgrade of memory but the game doesn't change a lot in loading, but I asked to ChatGPT to provide me all command to load more in ram ... and finaly with all parameter in a USER.cfg file ... I got a good result. ( see like r_TexterturePreload = 1, r_textureStreaming = 0, s_StreamPreload = 1 , s_DisableStreaming = 1 and more ... )

Note to self, need to work out what if any profiles exist for my modules - G.Skill Trident Z5 Neo RGB Black 64GB (2x32GB) 6000MHz DDR5 CL30 (F5-6000J3040G32GX2-TZ5NR) - and try them out. Running -25 PBO on my 7800X3d, but just the stock 6000 profile for my memory. As a software engineer, this electrical engineering is foreign to me. 😅 Edit ChatGPT 4o to the rescue: ```Your G.Skill Trident Z5 Neo RGB 64GB (2x32GB) DDR5-6000 CL30 memory kit (model F5-6000J3040G32GX2-TZ5NR) utilizes Hynix ICs. To achieve the rated speed of DDR5-6000 with timings of 30-40-40-96 at 1.40V, this kit supports AMD EXPO profiles. Enabling the EXPO profile in your motherboard's BIOS should configure these settings automatically. Regarding Buildzoid's profiles, while there isn't a specific profile publicly available for this exact model, the use of Hynix ICs suggests that his general tuning recommendations for Hynix-based DDR5 modules could be applicable. However, it's important to proceed with caution and ensure system stability when applying any overclocking settings.```

Hey man, I really appreciate your content for SC! I'm looking to build a new system in Q1 2025, and obviously we get a few new launches by then but do you have a general recommendation for what CPU + GPU you would buy for a new build directed at star citizen? I don't need the top of the top but I would like to have a good strong performer so I was thinking probably the new nvidia's paired with either a 7800x3d or the 9800x3d
@tenpoundfortytwo12 күн бұрын
Hey! The 7800X3D vs the 9800X3D probably depends on the price difference between them! If the 7800X3D drops to be significantly cheaper then it's worth considering! The GPU will really depend on the resolution you are playing at?
@toberkulosis12 күн бұрын
@@tenpoundfortytwo I play at 1440p, right now I'm on a 5700xt paired with a 5600x3d and for the most part I'm pretty satisfied but there are times when the frames drop a bit. I upgraded to the 5600x3d from a 2600x last year and a saw massive increase in performance, and from what I saw in your other videos it sounds like moving to one of the 12gb vram cards will help a lot as well.
@tenpoundfortytwo12 күн бұрын
@toberkulosis yeah some more vram is probably a good idea! Hard to know which of the new cards would be the best option, the 4080 is already overkill at 1440p (especially when you factor in upscaling). I'm actually doing some testing right now in preparation for the new intel GPU- will be some 1440p data that should be helpful for you. So keep an eye out for that video next week!

Star Citizen loves low latency memory. These settings are fairly conservative/standard on Hynix A/M die so you can get more with additional tuning. The best I've seen is usually 6200-6400mhz with a CL of 28 and all subtimings tuned. I think Buildzoid was able to get CL 24 or 26 stable, I can't exactly remember which.
@dkindig23 күн бұрын
My memory tuning strategy is pretty much in order of diminishing returns: lower CL first, then max out fclk, then try for higher freq. Star Citizen streams so much data in and out that the v-cache can't compensate for it.
@WallyAMV26 күн бұрын
Did you do any additional testing to distinguish whether you were getting the increase mainly from PBO or the Memory tuning?

Since changing to these settings exactly (minus the DDR5 ram settings - I just left mine stock), my system’s ability to run multiple apps while playing SC went down the tubes. Even if I’m just running Discord and nothing else. Tabbing away from game causes major slow downs in performance. Is this due to PBO’s affects on multi-threading? My system specs: 9800x3d 7900xtx DDR5 64Gb ram, 6000mhz, 30-40-40-96 2tb SSD with plenty of space Running the game at 4K on a 165hz monitor
@tenpoundfortytwo23 күн бұрын
I would guess that your 9800x3d is quite stable at these settings- should be plenty of overclocking guides out there on KZbin so you could fiddle with things. But seeing as the improvements from pbo are pretty small, I'd be tempted to leave it at stock settings!
@seamus_o_ra23 күн бұрын
@@tenpoundfortytwo Thank you, I appreciate your time in replying. I'm still confused regarding my question though. Is there a reason these settings may cause multi-tasking issues as I described? @@seamus_o_raI think it will just be down to the CPU being unstable and so that manifests as the whole pc lagging. Instability can show in different ways, sometimes the whole system might crash, sometimes it will be fine apart from specific workloads! Overclocking always carries a risk that the pc might start playing up! It's one of the reasons I tend to leave everything stock- I'd prefer not to crash in the middle of something important!

Like provide how many ram SC can use, preload Shader, Sound, and avoid streaming textures. Could be nice to make a video about the result before and after. if you got 64gb these one could usefull. like r_TexterturePreload = 1, r_textureStreaming = 0, s_StreamPreload = 1 , s_DisableStreaming = 1
