I love this couple and their realtionship! They have such a great, healthy and strong bond. David is such a good human because they weren't dating and he was always there for her and most important he was there for Lilo. He didn't have to do all of this for Nani but he did. And I think Nani is one of the best characters you can find out there, I respect her so much!

They’re such a great relationship because despite all the hurdles they don’t give up and don’t force the relationship. Nani knows she’s not going to be able to put the emotional investment the relationship needs on a romantic level, but David is still willing to operate on a Just Friends level with no hard feelings and help her, and Nani isn’t so proud that she rejects the help and support he offers. The hurdles feel natural and uncontrived, very relatable. Nani trying to get her life together, work out where she and Lilo need to be in new circumstances, surprise expansion of family, for David to be her rock shows he more than deserves to be her prince. They’re both open and honest with each other, no lies or false pretences like other Disney romances usually have.

What i found sad the first time i watched the Lilo & Stitch movie is how much pressure Nani could have offloaded off of herself if she would just allow herself to have some fun with David. He was OBVIOUSLY very invested in her, and would have wanted to help as much as he could. If she would need a babysitter, David would be there, no question. A bit short on rent? David would have no problem spitting in some dollars. But Nani saw it as only her job, even though there were other people willing to help.

Nani and David are probably my favorite couple because they’re the most realistic and probably the healthiest Disney couple in terms of a healthy relationship. I mean I love the Disney Princess (official and non) relationships with their Princes but since with the exception of Moana (maybe Brave) they’re all more or less based on a fairytale or on history they tend to rush the relationship (excluding Frozen because in Frozen 2 we see Anna and Kristof have been a couple for three years and Elsa remains single in cannon) and jump straight to happily ever after which is so not the case irl. Real relationships are messy and requires a bit of give and take both ways and a lot of communication. I mean I once dated a guy who always stood me up, cheated on me twice (still don’t know why I didn’t dump him the first time he did it since he was a massive flirt) and told me to my face that he only saw women as people to cook, clean, and give birth. He’s lucky I didn’t deck him when I dumped him I was so mad. I could look past the first two I was used to that but as soon as you turn me into a sexualized object you’ve crossed about a thousand lines all at once. I actually only dated one guy who respected me, my boundaries, and didn’t want me as arm candy or a trophy girl. We eventually broke up because we just had too much on our plate to be in a committed relationship at the time but we’re still really good friends and have talked about getting back together when we have things sorted out.

I think they have a strong relationship. Sure, he was socially awkward and did one incriminating act, by sneaking himself and Nani, Lilo and Stitch into the hotel, thinking it was blue towel day to relax in the Birds of Paradise Hotel in the series, only to find out the hard way that it was red towel day, but he is an excellent role model for Lilo and Stitch and used Yin and Yang analogies to educate the pair on the concept of Yin and Yang. But he's a good lad, that David, and a brilliant surfer. It was even stated in the Anime that Nani had a daughter, with David most likely being the father, as well as Lilo having her own child named Ani .

I always liked David. He's not a Nice Guy, but a guy who's genuinely nice. He's persistent but not pushy and gives her space when she needs it.
