Wrestlers and Judoka are some of the strongest athletes out there in regards to their size. They aren't exactly that strong in a more conventional sense, they aren't going to break WR deadlifts for their bodyweight off the bat, but if they get ahold of you it's like being in a vice. You just cannot get away from their grip and they can throw you about like it's nothing.

Be the best of both worlds, build your physique through high level calisthenics or gymnastics (and you will get pretty big if you eat and train well) and heavy compound movements, and train martial arts alongside it. Strength is definitely a huge part of fighting, professionals need to work on fight endurance because they might have to go for five rounds of intense athletics. But for a hobbyist, you can definitely carry more muscle, intimidation factor is a huge part of self-defence anyway.

@Jack-kn1mr
@Jack-kn1mr 3 жыл бұрын
@@DaRealPianist Because we know what we're talking about, that's why. The Quads aren't that involved with a kick, so having huge fucking quads doesn't help as much as you'd think, it adds more mass which means more damage and they do help with quickly and explosively extending the leg, but most of the work is done by other muscle groups such as the core as mentioned below. Think of them like the triceps when you throw a punch, they assist in the movement but it's much more a back shoulder and chest movement. Larger leg muscles mean that you're body needs to pump more blood into them to get them to move at all. Mass is mass it's just as hard on your heart to pump blood into 300lbs of muscle as it is for it to pump it through 300lbs of fat, the difference being that some dude who's 300lbs of muscle probably (but not always) has a better conditioned cardiovascular system. Same strain but his system is gonna be better at dealing with it, moving on. Next, now the main movers are having to move a ton more weight that isn't really helping all that much when it comes to the movement. So the main mover is now having to work even harder to move all that mass. If you want a good example of how not much weight can make movements way harder, start throwing punches with 10lb dumbells in your hands. You'll tire out a lot faster than you would if you were just throwing punches without the weights. It's not exact but it proves the point of moving more weight is harder. So, it takes more energy to move in general cause you've got more mass and the muscles that are primarily involved with the actual movement are having to work even harder to perform that movement because of the extra weight. This means that you're gonna use more energy and your gonna burn through your endurance much quicker than if you weren't bulky. Also to address that point you made about lifting hundreds of times for reps, that'd about 60 reps over the course of like 10 minutes assuming a 60-second rest and sets of 12 reps that take 5 seconds each which would be a pretty short rep but assuming you're just cranking them out like a fucking mad man. That is not an explosive movement and is going to burn far less energy than if you get to the bottom of that rep and explode up which will drain you much faster. Even then that's not a hell of a lot of output. Now I was clearly being hyperbolic when I said the dude was only going to be able to throw those kicks a few times before gassing, but he's not gonna be able to throw anywhere near as many as a dude with smaller legs and less excessive muscle. You want a good example of this check out the number of strikes thrown in your average Heavyweight Ufc bout and compare it to the number of strikes landed in your average Lightweight bout. It'll be a significant difference, and it's largely because of the reasons I just explained. You're welcome.

Maybe they serve as amour at least,although I'll admit as time goes by in the manga their legs have gotten noticeably bigger especially the calves,in the newer manga chapters the calves are larger than any other muscles in the body including all the thighs,I assume it's just part of his evolving art style.in a fighter calves should be more or less Bigger than any arm muscles(as HARD as they are to build)but they seem to sometimes be larger than the characters whole torso sometimes,either way it would not make sense for a fighter(in mma) to have a monstrous upper body and not have an even more monstrous lower body,but it does happen I.e brock Lesnar,and he was a big threat for a while,but he wasn't known to be Nimble or known for his leg kicks(not that he needed any of that)but look at modern heavyweight and lightweight heavyweight fighters,nowadays legs are becoming more and more developed as simple power and boxing doesn't cut it anymore,people like to kick more,they like to chop people's legs down more and bring them down with pain,so maybe that's why the mangaka has given characters more and more chunkier legs as time goes by,although note that one of best light heavyweight fighters of all time Jon Jones had very small legs so...

I've taken Boxing classes and personal training with family. And I can confirm: You will gas the Hell out regardless of how well built you are. And as Jax says; Its not to turn you into an aesthetic beast. Its to make you efficient at the sport and even in a real fight. Its most definitely a benefit to build a powerful look to match your conditioning. I'm personally trying to blend both worlds of weightlifting and boxing to find that 'sweet spot'(as MJW says).

I wrestled for 6 years and I'd say thats the closest you can feasibly come to looking like a body builder and doing some sort of martial art. Thats due to the nature of the sport and trying to get an advantage, for instance, I would walk around at 160, relatively lean ~10%BF but would then cut to 133/132. The only way I was able to make weight was to cut water weight and barely eat anything. I would look shredded, but until I actually got to rehydrate and eat something, I would cramp and barely be able to move in my matches. So Jax speaks nothing but truth here, always glad to find informative videos👍🏾

One thing to remember, fighters train to improve their skills, body builders train for size and aesthetics, there are ways to train for both, by finding a balance in between the two , for example I love doing calisthenics and mma, I don’t focus purely on athsetics when strength training and always supplement it with endurance training and cardio

I think height is also a huge factor. Ohma is like 5"10'(180cm) flat. We just assume massive means tall based on the average height of athletes. 6"3'ish is what most of the average height characters look like, but the amount of Kengan characters at or below 6" is really high. The pro wrestler guy was 6"7ish, and he is massive compared to everyone else.

GSP: “ I don't believe in strength & conditioning.” I used to train 6 days a week before the first lockdown, 2 sessions of 2 hours a day on week days and 6 hours on Saturdays. I always was fat regardless of how much I trained, but I was more on the skinny side (67kg for 181cm), I could hit the heavy bag for 40min, I could have gone for longer but had to let other people use it too. My stamina was greater that those who looked fitter. Never could do the Mikasa workout though. I tried it once or twice every year since 2017 but could not complete it without dropping. Once I will have recovered from my injuries, I will make it my goal to complete it. My 2021 resolution, get in the best shape of my life and compete in the amateurs in either Muay Thai or MMA. Dude, great video! Love that in the end you mentioned how people are build differently and don't always react the same to specific stimuli. But I kinda wanna talk about how some people take that point way too far. I've been doing strength training for about 2.5~3 years now, but only at the start of this year did I actually began taking adequate amounts of protein, and I managed to recomp a lot. An acquaintance of mine noticed, and asked me for advice, since he was fairly overweight. I helped him out, made him a simple routine and a progression... A month later he begins commenting and replying to some story posts where I was showing a bit of my progress, complaining that I look the way do (which, if I'm being hones isn't really impressive) because I'm "born this way" and have "good genes". Mf calls me on video chat in messenger, dipping french fries and cheese sticks into a jar of mayo, whining that he's fat.

This video - or the part about speed vs stamina - really showcases the amazing part about fighters like Khabib Nurmagmedov, who has a far faster pace than a good number of other fighters, and he keeps it up for Faaar longer than just about any of the people he fought. He did the baki thing of fighting 15, 20 guys every day with all the sparring partners in the gym.

I use to compete in amateur MMA, and for my 3rd fight I cut 22!lbs in about a month, and because the bout was in Ohio their athletic commission required amateur fighters to weigh-in the morning of the fight to prevent them from cutting too much weight. I weighed in that morning and fought later that night, and although I fought well I lost the decision. Had I not cut so much weight and had more time to recover and rehydrate, I probably could’ve done better. Being that lean, you look good but you’re miserable.
