I don’t think Qui-Gon would have joined him only because of my favorite quote from him in Master and apprentice “I don’t turn toward the light because it means someday I’ll ‘win’ some sort of cosmic game. I turn toward it because it is the light.” No one is turning this man.

By this point Dooku had already joined Sidious and may have murdered Cypher Diaz (I'm a little unsure about the timeline). If he is not part of the dark side at that poor mt he's approaching it at great speed!

@@TC-th1ey it is pretty bad that dooku was knowingly helping Maul and Sidious in their mission. Though he wasn’t practicing the dark side, him and the sith had a similar goal which is why Sidious revealed himself to dooku knowing he would be an ally. He may have been helping Plagueis too as he was still alive in phantom menace. If he was working with the sith, I think it would be inevitable that dooku eventually turns to the dark side and starts practicing dark side techniques. Maybe. Too with Qui Gon alive things might change for better with people like himself in the Jedi Order. I think this is the reason he stayed despite refusing a seat on the council and disagreeing with some of their ideas, he was respected by many Jedi and could probably have inspired other jedi to do what he did.

Same. Plus, in my opinion, Qui Gon stayed with the Order despite refusing a council seat and disagreeing with them bc he still had influence as a highly respected by most Jedi. He is good, he is opinionated, but he is not a quitter. I think QG liked aspects of the code bc "it is the light", there is truth in it, and had hope that things could change for better with people like himself in the Jedi Order.

I could never think Qui-Gon would go dark side. The idea you posed that he could’ve possibly reclaimed Dooku from Sidious bears heavy consideration. I do think all three, Qui-Gon, Anakin and Dooku could’ve created a different Order of Jedi, perhaps an official Grey Jedi Council and truly bring balance to the Force. This is a hallmark of a great storyline, where so many varying paths could be considered. It shows the complexity of the characters and the original storyline.

Qui Gon would prefer a government like the Republic over the CIS, only it's corruption and militarization of the Jedi is something he has come to firmly disagree with, or maybe even despise. I would say him and Dooku would still be on likely neutral terms, but he wouldn't join the dark side or the CIS, he'd try and make his own way with the force guiding him, which would likely be to train Anakin.

I agree, I don’t think Qui-Gon would have joined the CIS or the Sith, though I believe he might have tried to look at things from their point of view and felt a sort of sympathy, possibly deciding to remain neutral, only interfering to prevent things that he felt where truely wrong and needed to be stopped.

He would've just walked-out of the order helping whoever is in need regardless of affiliation like Lady Tano. Similar to spiritualism, you don't need to be in any religion to believe in a higher being. Even an atheist can be good. Qui-gon is a believer of truths, not orders and politics.

Disagree. His attunement to the Living Force would have let him know that something was deeply wrong. Which is probably why The Force removed him so that balance could be restored. Had he lived he probably would have been one of the Jedi who refused to fight for either side.

It depends on how much Dooku told Qui-Gon, I think. Qui-Gon would never have joined the Sith, not because that would mean turning against the Jedi, but because it would mean turning against the Will of the Force. However, if Dooku had recruited Qui-Gon to the Separatist movement, not the Sith, after revealing to him that a Sith Lord was in control of the Senate, then I believe he would have joined Dooku and brought Anakin along with him to train. The questions of "if Qui-gon would have continued to side with Dooku after he learned the truth or if he would go into exile", "if he would be corrupted by the Dark Side that was permeating the galaxy and many Separatists in particular during this time period or would remain above it", and "if Qui-gon would be able to turn Dooku from the Dark side since at the start of the war Dooku wasn't buried too deep in it" are much harder to answer.
@escanor8087

I loved the idea that Qui Gon would have made an order that is basically as close to the Grey Jedi as you can get in cannon. The new Disney cannon has pressed the case that being in the middle of the force is extremely difficult, if not impossible unless you're a powerful force entity such as The Father or the Dai Bendu, but Qui Gon seems to be in such a place, and that's one of the many things I love about his character, that he is a antithesis to the long believed concrete nature of the force.

I really do think that if dooku saw the dissapointment in quigons eyes and sidious WASNT in the same room while the interaction was happening, dooku would have been able to be redeemed! hell, I think even Yaddle came very close to bringing him back, but sidious being in the room with his damn background speak threw it all off! what I saw in these episodes specifically in the last dooku ep "sith lord?", it seemed like dooku was right on the border of light n dark the whole time, I saw a man who didn't wanna be there but was there out of duty and nessesity (in his mind). he fights yaddle with regret in his eyes and heart, and very similar to anakin he felt like he had already done too much "evil" to turn back now, too many good ppl have already died for him to go back on his ill fated decision to join sidious! however a heart to heart with quigon in the absence of a background chirping sidious I think would have turned him back, especially if it was "that" specific "will u join me" moment, in that moment if quigon turned him down and with a strong counterpoint from quigon about how this is NOT the way, with an already borderline treading dooku, there's a good chance he could have been brought back. we gotta remember that dooku was so on the borderline that we never actually see his eyes turn yellow! he only crossed that line when he felt it absolutely nessesary, I sincerely believe that all dooku needed to "see the light" was a STRONG counterpoint from someone he deeply loved, respected, and admired. the only man that rang all those bells is quigon..the second quigon died, his only remaining tether to the lighside was broken, and after that moment with maul on naboo, dooku was lost. I sincerely believe that out of the multiple chances dooku had throughout the war to kill obiwan but never did, was because he saw obiwan as an extention as well as the last remaining thread he had to quigon.

I think the reason Sideous made sure Maul killed Qui Gon is because he did in fact fear that Douku's old apprentice would indeed turn him away from the dark side and seek to destroy Sideous's ultimate plan. It's sort of a weird topic when one considers that one of Dooku's own primary reasons for joining the Sith WAS the death of Qui-Gon Jin; were he still alive, Dooku might not have gone totally off the deep end, either. No certainty; he was troubled, in his own ways, and the Dark Side is insidious, but despite what Tyranus thinks, the him that thought it might only exist because the student he wished to keep was now gone. It's always weird to me when people discuss the Will of the Force, and how it "obviously" hates the Dark Side, and every person who uses it, when that element certainly exists, and is a part of the total Force. Personally, I like to see the Force as a bit more neutral, and prescribe a bit fewer human properties to it. Ar the risk of jumping verses, and using the again admittedly evil Shadows of Babylon 5, existence is competition, and evolution. The Force doesn't need to be "nice", or caring, and sometimes the strong do persevere over the weak, by capitalizing on their strength. I don't get why the whole Force would have to be so nice, static, and honorable. Maybe forcing it into physical form, and reducing someone else to dust, with Force lightning is wrong, or other unnecessary Saturday morning cartoon villain antics the laughing, mustache-twirling Sith Lords do just because shouldn't be justified, but my 90s Fandom of Star Wars likes the wider, more neutral element of the Force, where what at least some people did was wrong, but more so because people would think it wrong, when crashing with societal views vs personal growth, and nor because the Force itself had a will, a plan, and a humanocentric hatred of villains.

I don't know if this is true or not, but I heard somewhere that the dark side isn't an element but more of an abomination of the force. After all the sith twist the force to bring it under their control. One must abandon all that is human or "natural" to truly embrace the dark side, therefore it and it's followers must be cleansed to bring peace. That's just what I believe, your theory sounds great too.

My personal head cannon is slightly different. The best way I can describe it is seeing the force as a living creature. Dark siders who try to twist the force to their will are disliked by it. Dark siders who venerate the force while rarer might be protected by it. The same goes for those on the light side.

Small correction: Qui-Gon didn't sway in any of the comics. It was in the Jedi Apprentice EU/Legends novels where he almost lost himself to the Dark Side after the death of Tahl. Specifically 'Jedi Apprentice: The Death of Hope' and 'Jedi Apprentice: The Call to Vengeance.' I was absolutely obsessed with the Jedi Apprentice novels as a child and they were my first real introduction to Star Wars, so when you said it happened in the comics, I immediately had to fact check that to make sure my memory was right, and I was correct about it. I don't think Qui-Gon would have gone to the Dark Side easily, but I do also cite those books to say there is a possibility under the right circumstances (for example, his lover dying).

I think it is a half-joke. It's Dooku's way of telling him to be careful, and Qui-Gon's way of telling especially Yaddle that Obi-Wan formidable and is ready for the trials. But also, comparing Qui-Gon to Dooku in terms of being a warrior, Qui-Gon was very well respected as a good swordsman and powerful Force wielder. He should be on the Council; he is at that level. That said, every Jedi that isn't Yoda or Mace (and maybe Plo) pale in comparison to Dooku. He was a prodigy in the Force and the beau sabreur of the Order. Had Dooku went with Qui-Gon, Maul would have been way outmatched facing them both.

What this episode actually reveals is that, contrary to what we’ve always assumed, Qui-Gon’s death was not a factor in Dooku’s initial fall to the dark side. Dooku was already working for Sidious for months prior to events in Phantom Menace. He obviously believed Qui-Gon could be turned, but perhaps he intended to manipulate him instead. Perhaps, like he attempted to convince Obi-Wan, he could be estranged from the Jedi enough to accept limited use of the dark side as a means to an end.

This is a very important question. You have to look at Qui-Gon's view of the Jedi and the galaxy as a whole before coming to a conclusion. Qui-Gon felt that the Jedi were concerning themselves too much in the politics of the Republic. At their core, Jedi are supposed to only follow the living force. They do this because the force is above everything, it is the essence of life and the entire galaxy. Governments may rise or fall but the force is eternal and a Jedi's ally is the force above all else. Jedi serve to conduct the will of the force not the will of a government. This is their philosophy and one that they grew away from in the 1,000 year era of the high republic. One of the reasons Qui-Gon Jinn did not receive a seat on the Jedi High Council is because he would break the code from time to time and follow the living force in all aspects of his life. He did this because he understood that this is what mattered, not the code, not the jedi, not the republic, but the will of the force and that is what made Qui-Gon the wise man he was. Unlike his fellow Jedi, Qui-Gon understood this. Ultimately after finding Anakin Qui-gon understood his role in the galaxy, to train the chosen one who would bring balance to the force. The Jedi refused to take him in and had Qui-Gon survived he would have left the Jedi Order to train Anakin. If Qui-Gon hadn't found Anakin and survived his encounter with Maul then he would have defiantly been one of the 12 Jedi that left with Dooku after the Phantom Menace but he would not have been Sith. As stated before, Qui-Gon put the living force's will above all else and this is the opposite of what the Sith do. The Sith use the force and bend it to their will, and thus while I think Qui-Gon might have been a separatist, there would be no way of him joining the Dark Side.

Id like to think that they would balance one another, light and dark, and be the perfect representation of balance for training the chosen one. They could indeed be the answer to the corruption of the Jedi Order and destroy the sith in the same turn. Recreate the Jedi in the original intent, with balance and knowledge of both sides. Its only those who use the force to seek power who misuse te force out of balance. Ive often compared the force to Tao, you have to let it lead the way.

If qui gon survived the duel of fates on Naboo then that means obi wan was killed by Darth maul. I think then this would mean qui gon would most definitely train anakin but he would leave the jedi in doing so because of obi wans death. Dooku would have left as well and I think dooku and quit gon both would help train anakin in more of a grey jedi way. With this simultaneously happening with the clone wars still happening but the cis would be led by grievous and probably another puppet of sidious. I think that order 66 would still end up happening. But before yoda confronts sidious the force brings qui gon, anakin, and dooku to yodas aide. When confronted dooku, and qui gon fall quickly and anakin saves yoda being more balanced with his emotions and thoughts he eradicates sidious. Yoda dies from his wounds and anakin being one of the few remaining Jedi must rebuild in a more balanced way so that the Jedi don’t become so arrogant and blind again thus still fulfilling his prophecy.

I think he would have stayed a Jedi and at best would have distanced himself even more than he was from the council and and taking orders from either them or the republic, but he would have taken Anakin with him and turned him into what Luke became in legends.

I doubt Qui Gon would've even joined the CIS or left the Jedi Order if he knew about the corruption in the Senate. As much as he may have opposed the will of the council, Qui Gon seemed to have believed he could accomplish more good in the galaxy by remaining with the Jedi.

It's conceivable that Qui-Gon would have joined Dooku in a separate faction-- if it was (former) Jedi following a slightly different lightside path. I don't see Qui-Gon either becoming a) a full blown separatist prepared to take up arms against Jedi/Republic or b) a Sith. So, in that sense, I agree with Obi-Wan's declaration that Qui-Gon would never have joined Dooku.

If Quigon had learned of the sith presence in/ controlling senate policy and guiding the republic. It is entirely possible he would have attempted to reason with Duku. How this would have played out is anyone's guess. I agree that Qigong would never have joined the sith. Willingly..... If it was like under the inquisition things get more complex but in general no he would never join the dark. Could Quigon have brought Duku back from the path to the dark? Maybe..... But Duku needs actions not words. My expectation is that he would send Obi wan back to the Jedi council with the message and a call. The message in approximate. "I have found verification that the politics of the republic are under the influence of the sith. Those who do not leave the role of peace keepers for the republic are in danger of falling into a sith trap generations in the making. Those Jedi who with to persevere in the light should leave and follow the will of the force where ever it leads." Quigon would also likely vanish with the chosen one. How this would work I have no idea. But they would likely pop up during the clone wars interfering in various ways. The problem is simple. Duku if he ever really did fall to the dark after a conversation with Quigon would lead a constant hunt for Quigon and the chosen one. At least this is my read on the situation. Likely flawed I don't know enough lore to dig to deep here.

"The Will of the Force..." People make many assumptions about the Will of the Force being Light Side by nature. The Force is the Force neither Light Side or Dark Side.

Well the answer to that question is actually much more obvious than it would seem. Because dooku only became a sith because of the Jedis negligence towards Qui gon and his proposals. Had Qui gon never died, DOOKU NEVER WOULD HAVE BECOME A SITH IN THE FIRST PLACE.

I think Qui-Gon if he survived would not have fought in the Clone Wars at all. I think his philosophy of the living force would have been in direct conflict of the idea of Jedi being soldiers and I think he would of left the order and would have taken Anakin with him to train away from the darkness the war would breed

IF he did though it'd be like Dooku ... just using the darkside power as a TOOL but not truely turning I mean he'd join Dooku leaving the order and almost maybe "make their own order" or what the Jedi should have been

No, he would agree with Dooku on many things, but wouldn’t resort to the deceit and destruction caused by the Clone Wars to cause change He wouldn’t support the Sith, especially on creating an Empire from the Republic I believe if Qui-Gon lived to the Clone Wars, he would stay neutral and focused on training Anakin to fulfill his potential as the Chosen One, which may cause him to leave the Jedi Order to educate Anakin outside the war

Qui Gon would have never joined Dooku with the Sith, NEVER. Qui Gon also would have NOT joined the Separatist either because they were too aligned with the Sith. I definitely could see Qui Gon leaving the Jedi Order, but still serving the Light of the Force similarly like Ahsoka Tano did throughout “Rebels.” But, could you imagine an alternate universe where Dooku, Qui Gon, and Anakin had left the Jedi Order to strike down Sidious without the lure of the Dark Side? This would beg the question, would Obi Wan leave the Jedi Order to join them? No I don’t think so because Kenobi was too much of a company man. Of course leave it to Ruin “Retcon” Johnson to mess all this up because the guy doesn’t understand anything Star Wars, or simply doesn’t care and would purposely mess things up just to piss people off for his own satisfaction.

If anything he would leave the Jedi and be more like a grey jedi. The living force was more about harmony with nature rather than dedication to selflessness and altruism. But that doesn't mean that he would have not fought against the Sith.
