That applies to both the new republic and the first order. Without a take over I don’t think legends would bother with either faction. One is almost pacifism taken to the extreme and the other militantism taken to the extreme. Palpatine for all his faults understood the necessity of a functioning government something that the first order doesn’t seem to get.

They could have giving the first order a validated yet flawd reasoning for existing and trying to eliminate the new republic. I.e. that many planets went into chaos after the fall of the empire( like civil wars), and the new republic being unable to help due to bureaucracy and/or resources. Ryan Johnson could have used that plot to divide the audience instead of the "both parties buy from the same supplier" to make the good guy ambiguous.

Yeeeah, any First Order officer who outranks Thrawn (from Supreme Commander down) is likely to see our boy blue as more of a threat than an asset. It's not like they seriously believe they can lose to an external threat like the rebels, so they are instead looking internally and seeing enemies everywhere. I'm thinking old red eyes will not expose himself like that. At most, he might sign an allegiance with the 1sters that involves him commanding his own fleet and never setting foot on a 1st Order ship.

Thrawn had attained the highest rank and did it in an astronomically small amount of time in a racist society that would never tolerate aliens like him in their officer core. He was always too competent for the Empire.

@@forgottenfamily That may be but the Empire for the most part at least adopted the facade of maintaining stability even among the average rank and file, the First Order is less a military than a militant cult. The average storm trooper and imperial officer didn't even know about the Death Star let alone it's purpose, the First Order it was information that was known by all of them and the cheered at it being used to destroy entire worlds. Also Thrawn was alongside Darth Vader in opposing the construction of the Death Star, Star Killer Base would just illustrate to Thrawn how the First Order decided to take the project that doomed the Empire and make an even more flawed version while at the same time failing to restrict intelligence on vital projects to a need to know basis.

Thrawn in legends would have taken over the current First Order in his sleep as for the Canon version as with the Loyalty to the Chiss being top on his list, I don't think he would have joined the FIrst Order.

Our boy blue still has no Force powers though. He rose as high as he could in the Empire without displacing any actual darkside users. His mind is pretty much like a fortress. I believe Kylo would try and fail too, but because Thrawn is such a great asset, he wouldn't kill him. No way does Thrawn allow himself to get murdered in one of Kylo's tantrums.

According to an exclusive report from the online podcast site LRM, Lucasfilm has cast Mena Massoud as Ezra Bridger and Lars Mikkelsen as Grand Admiral Thrawn. The duo was last seen together at the end of Star Wars Rebels, so it isn’t too far of a stretch to think that they could’ve been trapped with each other after the fall of the Empire. Massoud, an Egyptian-born actor from Canada, has had a number of bit parts in various films and television shows. He is most widely recognized for playing the titular character in Disney’s 2019 live-action version of Aladdin. Mikkelsen, a native of Copenhagen, Denmark, flourished in Danish films and television. He is no stranger to the Star Wars universe, as he already voiced Grand Admiral Thrawn for 13 episodes of Rebels. Mikkelsen’s younger brother, Mads, also portrayed Galen Erso in 2016’s Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. However, it should be noted that neither of these castings has been confirmed, nor have the character’s potential roles in any specific Disney+ series been announced. So for now, they should still be treated as rumors. This isn’t to say, though, that neither of these castings will eventually come to fruition. Both Massoud and Mikkelsen have been popular fan castings for the two parts. Additionally, it is very probable that Thrawn will, in some form or another, appear in an upcoming series. Well, as Darth Revan was not able to realize the weakness of the Sith as a big Army - no. This is even the reason why he never could have been as powerful as Palpatine. I'd rather ask if Darth Bane could have ruled the Empire more effectively and efficiently, even though he - in theory - was not as powerful as palpatine. Bane was perhaps one of the most smartest Sith of all. He realized a lot of things and thanks to him the Sith were able to overwhelm their weak past. Darth Bane is what Nietzsche would describe as a worthful being. He led the Sith to real strength.

I don't think we will ever have a definitive answer because we never saw a peacetime Revan in any detail, as either Jedi or Sith. He was always the warrior, the conqueror. His holocron showed he was capable of wisdom even in the depths of the dark side, but the inherent instability of that type of order (thousands of Sith acolytes and minor Lords) combined with the ambition of his #2 Malak means that a peacetime Empire under Revan would quickly devolve into civil war. If it was only Revan who was teleported to the Empire...I still don't think we have enough info.

Grand Admiral Thrawn and Ezra Bridger will reportedly appear in an upcoming live-action Star Wars project, rumored to be a TV show. The untitled series in question will reportedly feature Thrawn at the forefront. The series was rumored back at the beginning of June with many insider claims that Lucasfilm is currently developing the project, though the inclusion of Bridger is a new piece of the puzzle. Disney+ has already had great success with The Mandalorian and they have a few more officially confirmed shows in the pipeline. Kessel Run Transmissions' Noah Outlaw has provided the new information about a possible live-action series starring Grand Admiral Thrawn and Ezra Bridger. However, no other information was provided, which means this is still very much a rumor for the time being. Fans have waited a long time to see Thrawn in a live-action project, and the same can be said for Bridger. It was rumored at separate times that each of them were going to appear in the sequel trilogy with Bridger in The Last Jedi and Thrawn in The Rise of Skywalker. Grand Admiral Thrawn and Ezra Bridger have not appeared in any live-action Star Wars project yet. Setting them up in their own show would be huge news for Rebels fans, so let's hope that Lucasfilm is truly developing the series. In addition to The Mandalorian season 2, Disney+ also has the Rogue One Prequel series in the works and the Obi-Wan Kenobi series. Some Star Wars fans are under the impression that she will have a direct connection to the Child and that she will be the one to reveal more information about his past, while also possibly bringing some balance to the Force. With Tano on board, it would certainly be pretty easy for Dave Filoni to introduce live-action versions of Grand Admiral Thrawn and Ezra Bridger. The First Order actually DOES have a reason to use a Tarkin-style fear doctrine. Actually, even more of a reason than the Empire. Being such a small faction, their only hope of conquering as much territory as they are trying to take is by intimidating everyone into submission, because the way the numbers work, if the whole galaxy fights back, the FO loses no matter what. So they need Starkiller and the Supremacy and their fleet blitzkrieg to build an appearance of invincibility among the citizens of the galaxy or they are done for. Regarding Thrawn, I think it depends on whether Thrawn sees the First Order as a threat that must be (and can be) destroyed or a powerful potential ally to the Chiss. Even if he does not trust them, he might try to ally with them if he believes that the Chiss have no other option, perhaps providing industrial materials or civilian manpower to bolster the First Order's production in exchange for pointing the FO at the wider galaxy and making the Chiss indispensable to their operations. The chance to acquire the First Order's advanced technology would also be of benefit to the Chiss. And we tend to talk about Thrawn like he controls the Chiss, but he actually doesn't, so it is possible that the Chiss leadership would ally with the First Order against his advice. In that case, I find it hard to imagine Thrawn going against the will of his native government.

The only problem there is they are both competing over the same territory. In Legends he’s basically fighting a bunch of disunited “barbarians” in the Unknown Regions. Think historical Republican Rome going into Gaul. In the canon timeline any “Empire of the Hand” would have to directly compete against a unified enemy who is at least their equal in technology

Then, there’s also the fact the Emperor has had secret fleets in the past. Who’s to say that Thrawn doesn’t know them? He can also bolster his forces with the Chiss Ascendency.

Thrawn could build and army out of the troopers in operation cinder, but there would have been like 1000 troopers, still not enough to combat the real threat, but who I'm kidding? The resistance has only 12 members left after TLJ, so those troopers from cinder might have a chance

We still don't really know, we know that the First Order is made up of many Imperials who fled to the Unknown Regions in accordance with Operation Cinder. Whether or not there were any Imperial Remnant groups prior or during the coming of the First Order is still an unknown. We still don't have very much info on the 30 years in between episode 6 and 7 regarding the Empire and what the remaining Imperials actually did after the surrender at Jakku. This is part of the reason why I'm excited for the Mandalorian show coming out since it seems we'll finally get some more information regarding the Empire after the Battle of Jakku.

I've always kinda had the opinion that thrawn wouldn't join the first order because they're weak, obsessed with the failure of thier past to such a degree so as to radicalise thier populace, and make them think the rest of the galaxy was the bad guys. This is something thrawn would be utterly disgusted by. I mean, thrawn wouls be like, "Your obssesion with your past clouds your vision of the future. You continue in the path you started rather than learning from it. Therefore are doomed to make the same mistakes of the empire. I will not join such a shortsighted faction. Unless, we can benefit eachother in some form i do not currently see." This would leave realtions open. Incase they actually do have the power to stop such an extra galatic threat. But thrawn would see them as weak, and would only remind them of their failures. Which would drive them nuts. Maybe that's just me. :D

I think the biggest variable would be when Thrawn met the First Order. If he were to meet them early on in their exile to the unknown regions, he would have likely taken over control of it leveraging this experience in said regions. If he did take over like he did in legends, the First Order would likely be quite different from what is currently.

I just noticed the ninka tanks the Supremacy's heavy artillery.....I was ok with the Raddus since it had new shields and was 3km but I'm honestly conflicted about this. Also the way the shield reacts on the ninka is identical to that of the raddus which means they either forgot about the hull tight shield layout from previous works or it employs the same technology.

There is only one villain I can see Thrawn working with, and he's not even from Star Wars. I know that this has nothing to do with the video, but I just had an idea for a Star Wars/Code Geass crossover: Thrawn and Schneizel working together. Think about it, the two have the same goals (peace and order for where they live in), don't care about things like power and glory, and are highly intelligent strategists who are always one step ahead of the heroes. A- I think your assessment is pretty good, tough some minor points might be different but the point of his motivations is a great point. I also think when in original eu canon he attacked he decided to attack because if he won he would establish a strong military and if he didn't he would prepare the new republic a little bit and force them to make a stronger military so when the far outsiders did come there would be a greater fighting chance than if he tried to join them and convince politicians in peace time.

Daala was driven more by hate than anything. She lost pretty much every star destroyer in her command, including the knight hammer, a super star destroyer. Thrawn only lost a few of his SDs in his entire campaign

actually thrawn doesnt even need to be there. the chiss unlike the empire have VERY competant leadership and most of their admirals are just as good as thrawn, just less likely to make preemtive strikes. as a result even if outnumbered the chiss would fare extremely well, especially considering how pathetically stupid much of the first order's officers and leaders are, and compared to the chiss officers and leadership the FO is run by literal crying babies and action figures.

Personally in canon at least (heck if anyone even calls it that anymore) I can’t see Thrawn putting up with the energy angst of First Order officials. I see Thrawn leaning toward an independent status, possibly gathering his own following. It may not be very attractive as an option, but the First order by galactic standards is just a faction of the Empire.

Thrawn would do *Whatever* necessary to defend the galaxy against the Far outsiders. In both Legends and Cannon. Less so in cannon, due to the *Complete and utter lack of Yuuzhan Vong in cannon except for the Darth Maul: Lockdown book.* (On Wookieepedia, It said that the alien Maul faced wasn't a Vong, but in a video, you explained why it was.)

Would love to see the Chiss in any kind of capacity in episode 9. I think Thrawn wouldnt be particularly happy about the first order,but still join. They might not be as good as the empire in its prime but their still the most dominant force. So i think he would be left with no choice if he wants a strong unified galaxy to counter threats from the unknown region.

@EckhartsLadder I was wondering if you ever wondered what would happen if the first order came across a world under control of the remnants of the Empire. So picture the imperials having no knowledge of the war being over or whether or not they lost. As to whether or not they would join the first order or if they would do as they did in one of the comics and assume them to be rebels in disguise sort of like how they fired on a clone trooper wearing his original armor thinking he was a rebel trying to mimic the outfit of a stormtrooper.

Funny, I was actually thinking about 'Rise of Skywalker' after watching it... and I was trying to imagine the moment they decided to attack Palpatine's throne planet, Thrawn would show up and join them. When asked about why, he would say something like 'The Galaxy built upon destruction is no Galaxy at all.' or 'Because I want the Galaxy to be strong, not weak.' Basically, he would say that as long as Palpatine lived, there was no chance for Galaxy to survive.

Legends Thrawn would have joined the First Order, used Ysalamiri to control Snoke and basically turn him into C'baoth part 2 while actually instilling discipline in the officers. I doubt he would have destroyed the New Republic though. More likely he would have allied with them if he could convince them to re-militarize.

I believe joining the New Republic would be the more sensible option to unify the Galaxy. They were probably about equal in military strength to the First Order before (apparently?) their entire fleet got blown up with their capital by Starkiller base. I doubt Thrawn would have let that happen and he could probably defeat the First Order with the ships available to the New Republic.

The First Order is in essence the most fanatical and extremist version of the Galactic Empire, who no longer maintain as masquerade. They seek complete galactic domination through hate, mainly because they are led by darksiders such as Snoke or Kylo Ren. Thrawn is not a man alien to emotions, but if he is best knowed for something, is his intellect and capability to maintain serene even in the worst of situations. In that sense, he acts more like a machine than as man. Thrawn main interest resides in those who somehow can help the Chiss Ascendancy and perhaps the galaxy at whole. We don´t know how much of a menace are the Grysks in canon, but since the First Order is even more fanatical than the Empire, I would say than Thrawn would not join them, specially since he doesn´t has a Sidious on his side that can protect his ascendancy trough the ranks, so long the provides good results in the military campaigns.

A lot of people are bringing up Ahsoka living as what will diverge the timeline from the sequels, which is a great theory, but I think Thrawn has a role too. His rise to power as the true Heir to the Empire, the Imperial Remnant will become something better and even sooner than it becoming the First Order.

Thrawn is such a deliciously well not absolutely evil character that has a menacing presence but when he talks and begins to work, graces you like an angel ready to kill you if you disobey him or contradict him, and also in a passionate or kind or even calm sort of way. I always thought of Thrawn as a brutal military man but upon reading more on him especially in the Legends universe, I've come to like him a lot more.

What if remembering how being militarily week led to the use of the Clones who performed a coup to take down the Old Republic. The new Republic maintained a moderate fleet and army at all times, reaidly expandible in war to a large size? The citizens wouldn't turn their star destroyers against themselves. The citizens could also repell an invasion. You could have a force combining the fire power of the Empire, with the quick out side the box initiative of the Rebel Alliance

I think there are additional reasons for him to side with the FO in both canon and legends. For the rebels he was nothing more than a Imperial War Criminal, and has surely forged bonds with imperial commanders - that may bot be SO important, but it is much harder to side with those who kill the people with which you fight side by side for years than with your allys, of course - even for such a rational guy like Thrawn. When the FO was forged, it was build at least in part from people who had a better Empire in mind, not that crazy rage filled force it become in parts in the end - and people from the Old Guard are still in command of a number of ships during the time of The Last Jedi. People like Sloane (who may be dead or not) are exactly the type of Imperial he worked best with. Is it not possible that he would strengthen the influence of this parts of the FO, working in some aspects as some kind of rallying point? After all he was like Sloane a Grand Admiral, and one with deep knowledge of the Unknown Regions. Of course it is possible that Snoke saw him as a potential rival at one time and tried to remove him, but on the other hand he may see him as to precious as an ally, leaving the securing of parts of the Unknown Regions to the Chiss and the imperials under Thrawns commando - at least as long as it fuels his war machine.

Eck makes a good point for Thrawn joining but I think eventually he’d get tired of the first orders leaders. I imagine that after enough time Thrawn would take as much assets (troops, ships, and workers) and leave possibly aligning with the remnant(though unlikely) or more likely taking these many assets and rejoining the Chiss now with more troops and ships. This is for legends Thrawn basing this on mostly Snoke and Kylo Ren. Snoke seems to be even more private than Palpatine and Palpatine kept legends Thrawn very in the know actually so that Thrawn could plan better(of course except for Byss). Kylo is of course Vader and legends Thrawn didn’t even like Vader that much but did respect that Vader got results and had experience, Kylo has neither of these. Finally the only real officer we have seen is Hux and while Hux gives great speeches he hasn’t shown himself to be the best tactical mind(so far) so this leaves a bad chain of command that Thrawn would completely have to overhaul if he stayed to long so like i sad my thought for why Thrawn would join but eventually bug out with as much as he could get

I certainly agree with canon Thrawn, but when it comes to Legends Thrawn it is much more difficult. As you say, militarily the First Order is the best game in town, however, for the same reason as with Canon Thrawn, I don’t see Legends Thrawn wanting to work with Snoke etc. If he could pull off some sort of coup, putting either himself, or a more stable leadership in charge, then sure, he’d do it... Otherwise I think Thrawn would focus on building up the Empire of the Hand, and focus even harder at poaching the best and the brightest military forces from the First Order and the New Republic. Tbh, considering the caliber of the leadership of the Resistance (ignore the utter ineptitude put on display in TLJ), I wouldn’t be surprised if he didn’t just try to recruit the Resistance wholesale.
