3 years ago, we needed a larger grill for when we went camping. At the time, we had a teardrop trailer so we didn't have room for a large grill. We purchased the 17" Blackstone Adventure Ready griddle at Walmart. In this video, I will let you know what we like about the Blackstone griddle, what we don't like and answer the question of would we buy it again if we had to do it all over. Our Blackstone griddle has been used both in the RV and here at our home for the past three years.
Check out the video when we first purchased our Blackstone: • NEW Adventure Ready 17...

I know this video is older now but as far as the gas problem, needing to turn it in slowly... Thats an issue with the regulator. Not the grill. Its actually a safety feature. Always turn on at the tank first before the grill. If theres a suddden out rush of gas with no restriction, the regulator will restrict the flow. To fix it, you need to turn off the gas, wait a bit depending in regulator type then try again. This goes for any grill with a regulator. Some are more picky than others.

I have one of these 17 inches! Love it! One thing you didn’t mention is its weight! We started with the 22” and it was just too heavy for me to lug around so we brought it back and got the 17 with the carry case . Yes I would buy this again in a heartbeat! I have the slats to go around so the wind isn’t a problem.

I waffled back and forth between the 17 and 22, mainly because I wanted the dual zone temperatures. Nice to know this can be used that way to some extent. I settled on the 17, mainly because I expect to use it a lot at home but don't want to leave it out where it can be so easily stolen. This will be easier to take in and out several times/week. Don't know when I would need to travel with it but you never know.

Ours is a Sunbeam brand but very similar and we have the same heating pattern. Warmer in the middle and cooler at the edges. Burner is in the same configuration as well. Definitely a good cooking surface. We love cooking on ours as well. Great tip with the aluminum foil around the outside. Going to have to try that next time I cook in the wind. Nice update. We use the same Blackstone for camping in our RV. I bought the 22" but found it too large to move around for camping so bought the 17". We have also had it for 3 years also but not nearly as many "miles" on it as you do! For us it is perfect, easy to use, clean and store, especially while on the road. I found the same wind hack using aluminum foil but it has only been needed when very windy. Also, I use a 5 lb propane tank (instead of the 20 lb or the green cylinders) and it has been a good compromise and generally 5 lbs will last the camping season. I do miss using lump charcoal on some cooks but do that when we are at home. Great video.

We bought ours last year on your recommendation and we love it, same model as yours, I ordered the cover and carrying bag for Father’s Day and it’s great, fits perfect in our storage of our T@B 400, we have used it for ourselves and friends camping as we do some camp trips with friends where each couple takes a turn preparing dinner! So we’ve made a lot of smash burgers, Philly cheesesteaks, loaded grilled cheeses, etc, we love it for breakfast as well, but I’m surprised how much we use it year round at home as well! Thanks for your honest reviews and recommendations Patrick and Patty, you’ve never steered us wrong! Hope one day we see you “On down the road”. Cheers from Canada 🍁

I enjoyed your review. You speak about several aspects of the griddle. As we see the outside of the griddle, you are experiencing some rusting. Suggestion, clean the rust spots and then after each cleaning of your griddle, wipe the outside with oil too. If you cook with a cast iron skillet, you would also oil the outside of the skillet to keep it seasoned and rust free. Thanks, Skillet

I have one of the earlier Blackstone 17 models that has the grease tray in the front. Like you have done, I bought the 17" model as it fit nicely into the storage compartment of my Lance 1685. I also ended up buying the Blackstone folding stand that goes with it, as well as a hose/adapter to connect the Blackstone to the trailers quick propane connector. If you run this grill with the little 1 pound green tanks..........they go fast. This griddle is worth it's weight in gold as far as I am concerned. The food it cooks is great, and cleanup is very easy. I plan to keep this griddle around for years to come. But be aware............the purchase of the griddle is just the beginning...............you will always run across "must have" toys that go with the griddle to expand your collection.

Hey Patrick - great video as always ;>). I have the 22" Blackstone, and it has become my favorite way to cook while camping. My only complaint is the size and weight, but eliminating my need for another stove and/or a BBQ/Charcoal grill is worth it in the end. BTW I have a 2021 Lance 1995, very similar to your 1985. I do have to travel with my Blackstone in the truck, but I am ok with that given the performance overall. On a side note - did you get your recent issues with the Lance solved and again "happy" or has some of the luster worn off?

So how hot does this grill get? I don't see any temperature markings on the knob/dial. The electric grills give a digital reading. Also how hot does it get on the outside? I'm not sure, but is that a plastic folding table you have it on? Or do you need something like a metal table to keep things from burning?? Also do they come with lids? Do you think you need a lid? We've used this griddler for a variety of items including steak, fish, vegetables kzbin.infoUgkxMcXT6_MuT0hB3ejyGQQHaeof9bwoWPUf and mushrooms and it's been great! Gets that great smokey flavor when using high heat or sear. The grill works amazingly simple and very low smoke for what it is. Heat gets up fairly quick, especially on closed position. The griddler side is fairly simple, better for eggs and pancakes rather than any cooking. Use the flat plates with the grill side if needed.Cleanup is easy and having heat on both sides is great for cooking a large amount or panini press.This definitely gets hot though so be careful with the sides.

I jumped on the black stone bandwagon 2 years ago and i used it for truck camping. To me, it was just Ok. There isn’t anything i could do on it, that I can’t do on a cast iron griddle or pan. And to me the clean up was a mess. I’ve never used so many paper towels in my life to wipe it down, then season it after every use. Buying the loaf pan liners for the grease catch tray was another pain and dont leave it outside uncovered for more then a night or two or you will begin to see rust spots on the cheap metal cook top and have to scrape off all the hard work of seasoning it and start over from scratch. I ended up giving it to my neighbor for her to use while truck camping. To me, it just seemed like another one of those useless kitchen appliances that everyone has to have cause they exploded in popularity.

I heard Sarah Molton (Julia child protege) talk about cooking steak on a surface like the black stone. She says the caramelization happens where the heat touched the meat. Grills only touch a part of the meat, cooking on a something like a Blackstone surface caramelizes the entire surface. Who doesn’t want that?

These are the most over hyped things I've ever seen. They're just glorified frying pans. I much prefer my Weber Q grill. If you really want a griddle they have them for the Weber which I have and seldom use. Cleanup of the Weber is far easier than the griddle.
@calebs3383

I just picked up one for camping. I'm a huge weber fan, I usually take a weber charcoal grill camping even, but got this for the sake of convenience on sale at a hundred bucks vs the weber q that runs a tad more. Imo they are both over hyped but love both rands. the blackstone makes cooking breakfast way easier then the weber q, which my in laws have. I would still yield to a weber full size vs a full blsckstone anyway, but for camping this thing rocks, plus you can swap out for an adapter for a full size propane tank for extended camping.

@@calebs3383 I bought a kit off of Amazon that removes the regulator from the Weber and replaces it with a quick connect propane line that couples to the quick connects on my RV. If I need to cook eggs I use a frying pan on the outdoor cooktop or we cook inside on the indoor stove.

He says it's the perfect grill but has to construct an aluminum foil baffle to use it?@#$! Yeah sure, just perfect. Get another brand. This one sucks. I no longer use the one I own. Garbage. Great if you want to roast marshmellows around the outsides where all the heat escapes.

This would be a great tale gate grill. No need for the table. Less cumbersome than the camp chef I have. What I do like about the camp chef is I can use the burners alone with whatever pan I want or the griddle top.
