The El Pionero, designed by Ed Calderon. Calderon is extensively experienced in counter narcotics, organized crime investigation, and executive protection. I’ve heard him mention before how a simple, cheap paring knife purchased at a department store can be of use as concealed fixed blade when you are in need of something quick. The El Pionero is modeled after just that, a common household paring knife. The finger divot is meant to be a point of recognization on the handle so you can know where your fingers are in relation to the edge of the knife.

That is a good looking "tactical paring knife"--I was once attacked by a psychotic apple and---seriously, I have arrived, carry on only, and made a fast stop at WalMart/Target kitchen departments--they'll do if you need to pick up something/anything quickly. I like small fixies for carry--speed of deployment and no lock to fail or fumble. Looks like a quality blade.

I don’t think so, blade edge needs to be facing forward if it’s a self defense weapon in the blade backwards position only cuts in downward thrust, this is really a pointless design.

I love kitchen paring knives. Very great to have in a self defense and even survival too. I know they ain’t a chopping knife but I have some paring knives that really saved me and they are very handy as well. Definitely the best kind of budget knife you could ever ask for in my opinion.
