There is nothing worse than having a tool that is perfect for the job only to find out that it’s broken!!! This video shows what happens when a tool breaks and the hard work that I put in to repair it and get it brand new again.
A quick disclaimer, this tool is not flawed in anyway, this was my flaw, I obviously hadn’t tightened it up tight enough when using it, so the thread over time started to wear away. I will make a conscious effort to fully tighten it from now on!

If you have the tools, repair. If you don’t have the tools, replace. Sometimes it doesn’t make sense to spend £100+ on tools to repair something that’s probably less than that. However, that’s a cracking repair and you’ve improved it and made it easy to repair again in the future if the same problem arises again.

Thanks Oliver, yes , luckily I have had this tap and die set for over 20 years! and haven't had to use it much, so it was good to dust it off and use it to save me some money! Hopefully it won't happen again, but at least it's not too difficult to fix! 👍 Cancel Reply

I had a similar slide hammer issue, and just welded it, it wasn't pretty, but, 10 years later it's still holding!

Thanks, yes a Tig welder has always been on my shopping list, i've done every other form of welding but never owned a tig 🙏 Hopefully the Loctite will work, I suppose it will be easy to replace if it happens again. 👍

Depends on cost and labor.. if the cost for repair in labor is more than half the tool cost, then replace. We cost 100+ an hour for labor. Tool costs 200$. Throw it away. Sounds like waste but we are here for the almighty dollar
