Part of my family grew up in the southern US and the other part grew up in Germany. There was a family get together where my southern American family cooked and I remember really clearly how much one of my little cousins sobbed and cried because corn isn't traditionally eaten usually it's given to livestock and she was grossed out by it. I remember how embarrassed my grandma was. When I was a teenager I got a job working part time at an authentic Chinese restaurant and at the end of the night they'd hand me the leftovers to try. One time my boss gave me some chicken feet and a soda and I was kinda grossed out by it and god, I could recognize that sad embarrassed look from anywhere. I wound up eating the entire tray provided and said “谢谢你,这个是很好” (thank you, this is very good) in very broken mandarin. I swear I made that women's night. Honestly, I didn't care much for chicken feet I usually don't even eat meat that often. But it's not really worth the shame it brings to a person for trying to show you their food culture and you not even bothering to try it or being outwardly disgusted by it. If you think it's gross move on to the next video no sense in shaming people for a culture that's as common as corn to you or me.

Thank u for that testimony to kindness--good to always remember that most times food is given as a sign of love, respect or thanks...to have a person make faces, or make noises of repugnance without even trying shatters the givers soul...esp. if the giver gives out of their scarcity...

People still think eating chicken feet is nasty? Just so people know, the best protein comes from insects, Americans eat roadkill and weeds, Africans eat rats, Switzerland hold dog festivals, Americans eat ALLIGATORS, etc. westerners eat all this weird shit but call our food weird when we’re way healthier than Americans will ever be? Look at the skin of all POC and Americans. There’s a reason why Korean skin care overtakes American skin care. There’s a reason Asian, African, and Hispanic dishes are popular. They actually benefit us. On the other hand, American food is full of sugar and ingredients that are ILLEGAL in other countries. If people wanna call chicken feet nasty, then don’t eat meat how do you think Muslims look at Americans eating pork? Sideways, hun. Point? We all eat diff things that may be normal to you but to another it’s unknown and “weird” which is disrespectful to put it, even if you are new to it.

I'm trying this recipe today! I don't have all the exact ingredients, but I've been dabbling in more Asian dishes for the last year, so I have almost all the ingredients. If it turns out well, I'll edit later the things I did differently Edit: MAN these are good!!!😂❤😂❤.... Changes I made were that I washed feet before doing the blanching process(i also used ginger powder instead of fresh ginger), then I rinced with cold water again afterwards. I didn't have the dark soy sauce or the stare anise spice so I skipped those unfortunately. I added some red pepper flakes to add some spice to it, also some seseme seeds, and since I didn't have regular sugar I used powdered sugar....Overall it turned out very well! Sweet and spicy, and the oyster sauce wasn't as invasive a flavor as I was expecting. It's definitely a finger food for me though because you have to discard of all the tiny little bones. If you are someone that doesn't like fatty meats I'd stay away from this one. Otherwise if you are cool with that kind of meat this was a really good recipe ❤
