This is an excellent video. This scam is so common. Microsoft, Google, Apple, or any other tech company won't ever call.

Yup .. they never even pick up the phone if you happen to call them :)))

These kinds of things have been going on for decades. I find it troubling that these types of "watch out" videos are still necessary.

You and me both. Did you know the Nigerian prince scam still works? Rather, it works often enough so that it continues.

I received one of those calls in 2012. I made out like I needed to turn the computer on and I booted up a VMware guest and followed all their instructions and that is what they did. They opened event viewer showed errors, told me they were all viruses lol. Then they opened a command prompt window and pasted in the text "Software support warranty expired" and said this means I have viruses and I am not covered because my "software support warranty license" had expired and offered to "renew" it for me. I kept them on the phone for 38 mins and they got angry at the end. I told them they were lying and that they were not remoted into a real computer they were in a virtual environment. I said "It's like the matrix... It's not real, you are full of S... I have never had a warranty support license and I am an IT guy myself so I do everything myself" Whew they got so angry lol. At least I took up 38 mins where they weren't scamming someone.

Well said! So much info in ones PC that would/could totally ruin you. Oops, what is in my wallet? Another job for tomorrow.

Most errors in the event viewer mean nothing for our daily use anyway, but people hear the word error and think something is broken. It's a word that's easy to use to manipulate unsuspecting people, especially people who aren't tech fluent. I forgot to set up my cell phone to be my dad's 2 factor on his OneDrive account. He called me telling me his account was "vulnerable" as if someone had already gotten the keys. That's another word that's used to manipulate people.

Considering that MS still has AOL desktop rip-off ready for the older generations, this type of scams will be here for a while still.

How about the repair facility that requires your iPhone passcode to replace a battery?
@askleonotenboom15 күн бұрын
Then you better trust the repair facility. Or, rather, choose a facility that you trust.

Same here , just walked away ….iPhone battery still working anyway😊

@ I removed the SIM card, removed the phone from my Apple account, and removed financial apps. According to Apple, the passcode should not have been required.

How about if one gives PC to repair without a hard drive/ssd. To let repair man use his HD/SSD to fix it?
@askleonotenboom15 күн бұрын
That's fine, as long as whatever needs fixing doesn't involve or require your hard drive. (As in, there's a software component to what needs to be repaired.)

@@askleonotenboom Thanks Leo, now days its getting easier and simpler to identify and replace hardware issues and software solutions too. So many users can become self supported as they should. KZbin, AI is a huge help also, something that was not available years ago.

Hello Kind Sir I am in desperate need of your help. So the problem is that I have this outlook account only signed in on my PC and nowhere else. And after recent update on my PC, all my lockscreen passwords were reset and it told me to sign in your Microsoft account to set a new lockscreen password. But at that moment I forgot the Outlook account's password. But after sometime I remembered the password after too many attempts. Now the PC asks for Security Code which is sent to an Outlook account which I can't access without the security code anywhere. So how do I sign in My PC. Please Sir Help Me With This Tragedy as The PC has all the important documents for a student.

(Sorry for the form response, but I get this question A LOT.) Please follow the account recovery or lost password steps as offered by Microsoft. This article walks through the steps (there's a video included as well): How to Recover an Outlook.com Account Without the Recovery Phone or Email askleo.com/16095 If the recovery process doesn't work for you -- maybe you don't have the recovery email or phone -- MAKE SURE to follow the instructions CAREFULLY and COMPLETELY. If the recovery process can't be made to work, then I know of no way to recover the account. If that's your situation I'm very sorry. Regardless of whether you recover the account or not, I would encourage you to review the steps outlined in this article to avoid it ever happening again: askleo.com/a-one-step-way-to-lose-your-account-forever/
