Colombia's second largest city, Medellín, is divided into 16 Communities (Comunas).
Until a few years ago, Comuna 13 was considered the most dangerous neighborhood in the entire world.
It was run by violent drug-trafficking organizations, which used the barrio's poor and desperate people as transit in and out of the city and served as a stronghold for rebels, gangs and paramilitaries.
For 2 decades thousands of people lost their lives, disappeared or were kidnapped!
Things began to change in 2002 when the new president launched multiple military operations that also killed many civilians.
Today, outdoor escalators and walkways have helped transform what was once the most notorious part of Medellin.
Today I'm going to explore Comuna 13 and see the situation through my own lenses, and of course meet the locals who lived there during the past dark days!

I watch most of your videos and this one really brought a smile to my face. I grew up without a father and spent most of my free time at the basketball courts. It was really a treat when grown ups would stop and play basketball with us. Especially not having a father figure around. I don't know these kids situation but they sure seemed very happy that you spent time with them.👍🏽
