My house is on the corner where we get hit with tons of cold wind in the winter. I live in Western NY and our winters get cold. We've been in the teens alot this season. My upstairs runs between 52-58 degrees, so I understand about not wanting to work in the cold. For some reason heat doesn't rise in our house. I'll run 2 small heaters to warm up the area so I can work. They absolutely help take the chill off.

We have a Lil Buddy heater that runs on Propane and is approved for indoor use. Maybe get one and some propane for if you loose power and use it on days when it really cold in the garage! Two problems solved a once!

I have to laugh every time you whine about it being cold in Flordia, in Ohio we had 6" snow and windchill -6 the other day, Wednesday's forecast is -6 with the windchill expected to be -26 lol.
