I really do not think people shouldn't force people to vote! In 2004 John Kerry's team set a book on the street here in NYC (while I was at a hot-spot lounge) for me. Do you all know what that made me? A electoral college voter. No one on earth would get that done to them, not even John Kerry or any other candidate white black or whatever. See here in Australia we have to vote which I think it's stupid. For people like me, I don't follow politics. They're all a bunch of lunatics from what I hear. While I do think voting is a civil right that has the capacity to evolve our freedoms, voting, is in fact, a civil right, not a civic duty. There is a difference. A right is a privilege, whereas a duty is a requirement. Shaming and debasing others for not voting (aka, aligning with what you think a person "should or should not do, be, say, have, ect") is in fact an infringement of one's civil liberties. Let's stop shaming and character assassinating people who don't agree with us. It defeats the purpose of democracy.

1) With rights come duties. To argue otherwise is childish. 2) If you want the privileges of freedom and rights you need to work for them or someone will eventually come along and take them away. Voting is the bare minimum expected of a citizen in a democracy and it IS a duty. Just because something isn't a requirement doesn't make it any less of a duty. 3) Someone disagreeing with you and shaming you for bad behaviour is not a bleeding "infringement of one's civil liberties". People have a right to express their opinions even if you disagree with them. People have the right to not associate with you if they disagree with your behaviour.
