Thanks for this new video. I have a question: is " wouldn't" suitable for any past verb tense? Looking forward to a new video

it depends on the sentence.

Could you please clear my mind with this sentence. I wish I DIDN'T have to work tomorrow, unfortunately I do. Why the answer here is didn't and not wouldn't.. It is because the sentence is in conditional or what. Thanks in advance.
@JohnyStarkEnglishTeacher2 жыл бұрын
That's because when you use "wish" you must use the subjunctive mood, and the subjunctive mood is expressed using past simple. For example, "I wish I had more money." This is also the reason why people say "I wish I were there." and not "I wish I was there."

Hi sir! 1- My car wouldn't start this morning. 2- My car didn't start this morning. What is the difference? 3- I wouldn't do that. 4- I didn't mean that you wouldn't. What's the meaning?
@JohnyStarkEnglishTeacher9 ай бұрын
1) "wouldn't start" It implies that there was an attempt to start the car, but for some reason, it failed to start. This construction often implies that there was an expectation or intention for the car to start, but it did not happen. (it's the past of "won't start") 2) "didn't start" simply indicates a statement of fact that the car did not start. It doesn't carry the same conditional or hypothetical nuance as "wouldn't start." It's a straightforward statement about what occurred without implying any particular expectation, intention or explanation. 3) "wouldn't do" it's part of a conditional sentence. It suggests that the speaker is expressing a reluctance or unwillingness to perform a certain action under specific circumstances. 4) "didn't mean" explains that you wanted to express something different than what the listener understood.
